The second album by this great French funk collective! The album's tighter than the group's first one – with lots of wah-wah guitar jamming, spaced out production, and some excellent soul vocals that must have been some of the best recorded in Paris in the 70s! The whole thing sparkles like a rare American funk album on an indie label from the same time – and it's filled with loads of great tracks like "Sweet Burn", "Stoned Groove", "No Time", "Be Free", and "Mass of Confusion", a nice long funky track.  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Cane & Able
AKT, Early 70s. New Copy (reissue)
A fantastic bit of tripped out funk! Cane & Able were one of the many groups that came out of the collective surrounding the Lafayette Afro-Rock Band in the early 70s – and like that group, Cane & Able draw on a wide range of influences to create a heavy funky sound. The album mixes ... LP, Vinyl record album
From A Whisper To A Scream
Kudu, 1971. New Copy (reissue)
One of our favorite-ever albums from Esther Phillips – an album that really helped her transform her sound for the 70s! The approach here is a lot more jazzy than before – served up with a good dose of funk, thanks to arrangements from Pee Wee Ellis – fresh from his work with ... LP, Vinyl record album
Visions Of Paradise
Today, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
A sublime bit of indie soul from the early 70s – the one and only album by vocalist Benny Johnson, recorded with some totally great backings from funk legend Julius Brockington and his United Chair combo! For the session, Brockington chose a warm, organ-drenched sound that's a fair bit like ... LP, Vinyl record album
Arista, 1975. New Copy (reissue)
A landmark bit of jazz funk – from one of the greatest backup groups of the 70s! Herbie Hancock first brought The Headhunters to light – working with the San Francisco-based combo that included Bennie Maupin, Mike Clark, Paul Jackson, and Bill Summers – using their sound to give ... Epic, 1969. New Copy (reissue)
A classic album of bluesy funk – one that features the guitar of Johnny Otis' young son Shuggie, in a slightly tighter setting than he'd been getting on some of Johnny's own LPs! Shuggie here is still very much under the guidance of his dad – working in a mode that really emphasizes ... LP, Vinyl record album
Three In A Cell
Epic, 1968. New Copy (reissue)
A heck of a cool group – with a really wonderful sound! The Peddlers were a late 60s British trio, with a sound that's part soul, part jazz, part supper-club vocals – all done with a clean, clear, hard-grooving approach – and strong instrumentation that often includes a heavy ... Epic, 1986. New Copy (reissue)
A great little album from James Mtume – a bit more complicated and righteous than some of his previous albums on Epic, and with a real mix of styles that works nicely together! The album starts off with "Theme For Theater Of The Mind", a sort of 80s take on the spiritual/political ... LP, Vinyl record album
Dresses Too Short
Twinight/Numero, 1969. New Copy (reissue)
The funkiest album that Syl Johnson ever recorded – filled with short, tight cuts that play more like a stack of funky 45s than the standard soul album of the time! The record draws from the great run of singles that Syl cut for Twinight Records at the end of the 60s – some of the ... LP, Vinyl record album
