Clovers – The Winley Recordings 1957 to 1962
CD (Item 603692) Winley, Late 50s/Early 60s — Condition: New Copy
A rare slice of work from the legendary Clovers – and proof that the group was still going strong in the years after their famous doo wop sides for Atlantic Records in the 50s! These tracks were all recorded for the New York indie Winley Records – and offer up a wicked blend of R&B and early soul – in a way that show that The Clovers kept on burning well into the 60s soul years, even though most folks only associate them with 50s doo wop! In fact, there's some mighty stormers here that may well have been standout soulful dancefloor tracks, and won the group fame – had they not already had their shot at stardom a few years before. Most tracks here were only ever issued on 45s – making this the first real album to compile the work – and in addition to tracks recorded under the group's name, the set also features work recorded by Charlie White, and as The Clovers featuring Buddy Bailey. Tracks include "Stop Pretending", "It's All In The Game", "One More Time", "Gotta Quit You", "Dearest To Me", "Sweetie Baby", "I Need You Now", "Wrapped Up In A Dream", and "Nobody's Fault But Mine". And to round out the set, the CD also features 4 tracks by other Winley groups – "Our Future" and "Teenie Weenie Hot Dog" by New Souls – and "Let The Good Times Roll (parts 1 & 2)" by Earl Knight & George Kelly. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
