CD (Item 592308) Particles (UK), 1970 — Condition: New Copy
Obscure garage, beat and psych from late 60s India – fairly raw, gritty and hard grooving numbers by groups such as Confusions, Dinosaurs, X'Lents, Genuine Spares , Great Bear and others – with a variety of global 60s influences and in more of a pulpy rock groove than you might be expecting from an Indian compilation! The original releases were put together by the Gramophone Company Of India in conjunction with the India Tobacco Company Limited, Calcutta for the Simla brand of cigarettes (!!!), obviously moving into the teen market of the time – which gives it an extra level of seedy charm. The music itself is seedy enough, though – with young Indian musicians of the time who are hugely influenced by western rock and roll – from English psych blues to American surf rock and all around garage grooves. The songs are sung in English and the whole thing has kind of an otherworldly vibe.
