Cuban Funk Experience – Funky Sounds From Cuba & Miami 1973 to 1988Various
CD (Item 487497) Nascente (UK), 1970s/1980s — Condition: New Copy
Heavy funk from Havana and Miami – a heaping helping of Cuban-styled grooves, most of which mix Latin elements with a strong dose of soul from the American scene! The Miami connection here is key – as the package shows not only the heady sounds bubbling under in Cuba during the 70s, but also some of the killer work made by expatriates who'd left the nation for the US in earlier years – but were still working nearby in the Florida soul and Latin scenes! Cuts step back and forth nicely between these two camps, supported by some great notes that really help illuminate the music of the time – and show that Cuban culture was flourishing strongly on both sides of the border. Titles include "Borriquito" by Peter Fernandez, "Los Feligreses" by Luis Santi, "Quindiambo" by Irakere, "Las Jardineras" by Pello El Afrokan, "Yo Si Que Estoy A La Moda" by Grupo Monumental, "Un Lamento Heco Cancion" by Los Reyes 73, "En Casa Del Trompo No Bailes" by Orquestra Riverside, "Abacua" by Manteca, "La Inflacion De Ofelia" by Oscar Pena, "Coasa Que Se Me Occuren" by Los 5 U 4, "Llegue Llegue" by Los Van Van, and "La Contrapartida" by Hilario Duran. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
