Kako and Totico do way more than jump start the car with this killer collaboration – and really make the record burn brightly with a classic 70s salsa sound! There's lots of dark twists and turns to the set – not just from the horn parts and the way they roll along the grooves easily – but also from Totico's excellent vocals – which, given that he's also a percussionist, seem to have an inherent sense of rhythm right from the start! The sound is nice and raw, and the album is filled with great moments like "Para Ya, Bandolera", "El Trabuco Special", "Atencion Senores", "La Maquina Y El Motor", and "Oye Los Tambores".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Schema (Italy), 1972. New Copy Gatefold
Not the Perez Prado of "King Of Mambo" fame, but actually his younger brother Pantaleon Perez Prado – working in a grittier early 70s Latin Funk mode than the more famous elder Perez! This Perez Prado plays bongos and congas – keeping a nicely thumping Latin beat underneath ... CD

Rare early 60s work from Alfredito Valdes – leader of a very cool combo! Half the set features the rare album Sabrina – and the album's a stunner – as vocalist Valdes leads a group that has an incredibly raw sound that takes them way past the usual pachanga combo. The production ... CD

A classic set of spacey club from Mandre – aka Andre Lewis – an artist we'd place right up there with some of the best cosmic sounds from Dexter Wansel at the time, and maybe even some of the more space-bound club artists of the European scene as well! The album's got some wonderful ... CD

A gem of a record from the great Billy Butler – brother of better-known Jerry from the Chicago scene, and maybe best known for his northern soul work of the 60s – but a hell of a great artist here in a rare group soul date from the 70s! Billy's lead vocals are supported by the Infinity ... CD
