Earlier funk from The Bar-Kays – recorded back in the earlier part of the 70s when the group were recording for Stax, but issued here to cash in on the group's later fame on Mercury! The sound here is surprisingly like the group's later work – still in the heavy funk mode of their Stax years, but a bit smoother overall – with a definitely pronounced bass part on "Holy Ghost". "Monster" is a slower number – one that steps along in a nice groove that almost feels like it was lifted from one of the funkier albums by War!

Two good mellow soul cuts from one of his great Atlantic albums. "Groovin" is a bit uptempo, but "You Turned Me On" is a great soul cut.
