Funky Blues 1960s to 1970s – Modern/Kent Blues TreasuresVarious
CD (Item 548317) Modern/Kent/P-Vine (Japan), 1960s/1970s — Condition: New Copy
The title gets it right – and the grooves do too – nothing but funky blues from the 60s and 70s, the kind of gritty, hard-edged tunes that are way better than the sort of blues you might be used to hearing at frat boy bars! All of the work here was originally issued on west coast indie powerhouse Kent/Modern – and the package does a good job of pulling out some under-recognized gems from the funkier side of their output at the time – tracks that often have some very tight drums, rumbling basslines, and scratchy guitar alongside the more soul-oriented vocals. Titles include "Let Your Hair Down" and "You Make Me Cry" by Arthur K Adams; "Kidney Stew" and "Two Ton Mama" by Newman Family; "Funky Way" by Jimmy Bee; "Women's Liberation" by TV Mama Jean; "What You See Is What You're Gonna Get" by Brenda George; "The Turning Point" by Rudy Ray Moore; "Night Time" and "Go To Train" by Smokey Wilson; "Tramp" by Foxfire; and "Mellow Together", "Funky Broadway", "The Thing", and "Hobo Meeting" by Lowell Fulsom. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
