BBC Jazz For Moderns
LP (Item 501900) Gearbox (UK), 1962 -- Condition: New Copy
Killer work from British tenor giant Tubby Hayes -- issued here for the first time ever, and material that's every bit as great as his famous Fontana Records sides from the 60s! These tracks are well-recorded gems from the BBC archives -- material recorded by Hayes for a special program, and featuring a largeish group of top-shelf players who include Jimmy Deuchar on trumpet, Keith Christie on trombone, Johnny Scott on alto and flute, Vic Ash on tenor and bass clarinet, Harry Klein on baritone sax, David Snell on harp, and Gordon Beck on piano -- all regular associates of Hayes, working as tightly here as on some of his best arrangements from studio dates of the 60s. There's a mix of modernism and solid soul that's pure Tubby all the way through -- tremendous on his solo moments, but sparkling throughout as well -- exactly the kind of record that will make you fall in love with his talents. Titles include "Early Morning Afterthoughts", "Down In The Village", "Souriya", "Take Your Partners For The Blues", and "Peace". (Limited edition of 500 copies -- vinyl only!) © 1996-2009, Dusty Groove America, Inc. | ||||||
