CD (Item 397257) Grapevine (UK), 1970s/1980s — Condition: New Copy

Private recordings by one of the greatest writers in southern soul – the legendary George Jackson, who penned hits for Clarence Carter, Candi Staton, Ann Peebles, and many others – yet hardly ever got much of his own work onto the market! This package nicely corrects that fact, and brings together sessions that George recorded at Muscle Shoals to preview his own compositions – recordings that are far more polished than just simple demos, and which stand on their own with the best southern soul of his time. Most of the numbers feature backings by the Muscle Shoals rhythm section – with George at the piano alongside his vocals. The quality level of the whole collection is super high – and the set ranks with similar packages by others of Jackson's generation – like the Sam Dees or Jimmy Lewis CDs on Ace, or the Philip Mitchell collection that's also on Grapevine – a real testament to George's poetry in song, and the new level of maturity he brought to his genre. 22 tracks in all – including "Without You", "Lovin you", "Fallin Back In Love", "Make You Feel Love Again", "I Wish I Could Be Your Lover", "Love Vibrations", "Another Woman Involved", "Just Can't Make It Without You", and "All That Time We Could Have Been In Love".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
