The 2nd volume of the Solar-Myth sessions! Recorded in New York in 1970, with an Arkestra that includes Kwame Hadi, Ali Hassan, Danny Davis, John Gilmore, and Clifford Jarvis – and instrumentation that includes moog, space dimension mellophone, ancient Egyptian Infinity drum, and lots of other weird percussion instruments. Longer titles are "The Utter Nots", "Scene 1, Take 1", and "Strange Worlds", and the whole thing's packaged in a glossy gatefold cover, with good photos of the band, and a good cover shot of Ra wearing cool goofy glasses!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Saturn, 1962. New Copy (reissue)
An adventurous side from Sun Ra – recorded in 1962, when the Arkestra had recently moved to New York City – with Ra playing a bit of percussion and electric celeste on one track, and an overall freer approach by the rest of the group! Breeding Of Mind
Groove Merchant, 1974. New Copy (reissue)
Wonderfully baroque funk from the great O'Donel Levy! The album's got some very cool arrangements by Manny Albam that mix together strings and funk – in a super-dope way that sounds a lot like the work coming out of Cadet during the late 60s – and the rest of the set features Levy ... Prestige, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
A tasty batch of funky jazz cuts from Ivan Boogaloo Joe Jones – working here in a tight guitar groove that's actually better than that heard on his early albums for Prestige! Transition/Delmark, 1956. New Copy (reissue)
Sun Ra's first album as a leader – originally issued on the Transition label, but presented here in its better-known incarnation by Delmark Records! Celestial, 1980. New Copy (reissue)
A very nice session that actually has a bit of a soul jazz touch – with elements that are similar to Ra's Lanquidity set, a much sought-after spacey fusion classic! The band still plays fairly out, but the singing's a bit more soulful than usual, and the music has some funky vibes, guitar, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1960. New Copy (reissue)
Coltrane plays the blues, but in a way like nobody else – stepping off of the deeply soulful sound of his late Prestige years, and moving into even more open and exploratory space for Atlantic! The setting is bare bones and simple – and many of these numbers begin with the sort of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Dave Burns
Vanguard, Early 60s. New Copy (reissue)

Jazz Haus (Germany), Early 50s. New Copy
Rare work from female pianist Jutta Hipp – an artist who's probably known to most for her Blue Note sessions of the 50s, but who's heard here on some German recordings from younger years!
