Hard, raw, righeous group funk – one of the hardest-hitting early albums ever produced by Patrick Adams! The set's got a feel that's much more like the Detroit work on the Westbound label than other records on the Today label – no surprise, given that group leader Mudbone later worked with Bootsy Collins in The Rubber Band! The style here is a bit more freewheeling than P-Funk, though – really jamming at times, with raw guitar, wild horn parts, and long tracks that blend together bits of funk, rock, and electric jazz! Titles include the break-heavy suite "Last Apocalypse", plus "Nixon's Ego Trip", "Great Debate", "Get Some Of This", and "Serve 'Em".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

TK/Drive, 1978. New Copy (reissue)
Cool compressed sounds from Miami – a group who are still plenty funky on this rare third album, but one who've also found a great way to serve up their groove as well! The combo's even sharper on the rhythms than ever before – and have a style that's a bit like that key evolution ... LP, Vinyl record album

What can we say? This is one of the greatest soul soundtracks ever! In a market that was dominated by the big-selling Shaft and Superfly albums, Roy slipped in this masterful blend of jazzy vibes and wah wah funk that's easily one of the best-composed records of the blacksploitation genre! The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Subtitled "Live At the Apollo Vol 3", but waaay better than any of the earlier volumes, this monster 2LP live set has James and the JB's wailing away in a freewheeling live set of hard hard hard funky grooves. Excellent work by the band, and a great way to see how sharp they were out of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sophisticated Funk
Today, 1972. New Copy (reissue)
Funky keyboard tracks from Julius Brockington – a mad early 70s figure who not only cut some wild funk, but who also ended up doing a fair bit of gospel work in later years. This set's a good bit of stoner funk tracks – in the wilder mode of the Perception/Today label – and it's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Visions Of Paradise
Today, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
A sublime bit of indie soul from the early 70s – the one and only album by vocalist Benny Johnson, recorded with some totally great backings from funk legend Julius Brockington and his United Chair combo! For the session, Brockington chose a warm, organ-drenched sound that's a fair bit like ... LP, Vinyl record album

An amazing bit of soulful funk from the 70s – never issued at the time, but with a mindblowing quality that we'd rank right next to some of our rare favorites from the decade! Stax/Light In The Attic, Mid 60s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold
Massive soul from Wendy Rene – one of the lesser-known talents from the Stax Records scene of the 60s, and an artist who's finally getting her due! We're not sure why Wendy never hit bigger at the time – because her singles here are wonderful – excellent female soul that not only ... LP, Vinyl record album
