A great look at The Sound Of Brooklyn label from the early 80s – a massive imprint that showed that the eastern borough was one of the funkiest scenes in New York at the time! There's a tightness here that most likely comes from the small roster of artists, and shared production tracks that link together most of the recordings – and the vibe is a great mix of post-disco club, particularly boogie modes, with some of the sharper sounds that were bubbling under on the streets of Brooklyn! Slight electro touches mix with funkier soul production – and the tunes often show some slight hip hop influences as well – even when the lyrics are more sung than spoken.
