Heavenly sounds from Mario Nascimbene – one of the more compelling soundtracks we've heard from the Italian peplum years! The music floats along beautifully – often light woodwinds, or light chorus passages to handle the melody – and some spare percussion moving quietly to create just the hint of rhythm. The approach moves far from some of the more dramatic cliches of the genre, and comes across with a sensitivity that's really striking – a lot more than you might expect! CD features 17 tracks from the film – all beautifully remastered. (Limited edition – with bonus download card.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

The movie's a spooky one, with some great tense moments in the soundtrack – but Riz Ortolani also brings his warmer sensibility to bear as well, and creates that magical mixture of darkness and light that you'll find in the best Italian film scores of the 70s! The music is mostly orchestral, ... CD

An early spooky soundtrack from Riz Ortolani – a composer we usually know best for more playful work of the 60s, but who really shines here in his score for a film also known as Castle Of Blood! The music has this tense, spare sort of feel – almost prefacing more atonal moments to come ... CD
