Elis Regina hits the London scene of the late 60s – with amazing results that make the album one of her best from the early years! The style here is still quite bossa-oriented, but backings are done by Peter Knight – who'd worked with Scott Walker and some of the other hip British singers at the time – so the sound's a bit different than Elis' Brazilian records, too. Knight's quite sensitive to Regina's way of interpreting a tune – and he nicely follows the soaring, jazzy vibe that Roberto Menescal had given her at home. But the groove's also a bit more open and fluid too – with some slight Brit Easy touches that really send the whole album home! Titles include a great version of "Upa Neguinho", plus "O Barquinho", "Zazueira", "Giro", "A Volta", "Corrida De Jangada", "Watch What Happens", and "Wave". (Nice package too!)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A pretty sweet album by Elis Regina – and one of the last she ever did! The arrangements have a bit more of an electric jazz sound than usual – but they actually give her voice a nice sound, and create some nice lush soulful tracks that have a very sweet sound. Cesar Mariano is still ... CD

A stunning live recording from Elis Regina – one of the last few records she cut during her short time on this planet – and one of the best as well! The album's got a jazzy fire that's missing from some of Regina's other material of the time – and Elis sings with a group that ... CD

A sweet electric 70s session from the mighty Joao Donato – very different than his earlier bossa work of the 60s – and with the same funky appeal as the best work on his classic Quem E Quem album! This set's got a tighter feel overall – very much in a samba soul style, with lots ... CD

Light and lovely tunes from Nara Leao – a sweet mid 70s session that's filled with great vocals and a fair bit of acoustic guitar! The sound here isn't nearly as dark as Leao's work of the 60s – and even as some of her albums from a few years before – but the record's still rich ... CD

An excellent album from Marcos Valle – and one of his rarest! One of the few Joyce albums ever issued in the US – a breezy outing from the end of the 80s, recorded with a bit more jazz than usual, and a number of English-language lyrics that were clearly intended to help break her into a wider market! Joyce is still very much in a comfortable setting ... CD

A lot smoother than most of Airto's other work – and almost more of a soul record than a jazz one – but also a great batch of grooves with a really spirited feel! Airto's percussion is still relatively up front in the mix, and smooth funky LA arrangements take the album to a warm ... CD
