Sweet soulful flute from the great Hubert Laws – gliding high here in a great session from his post-CTI years! The album's a bit more soul-based than some of Hubert's earlier dates – but that change is a great one, and really helps Laws find some rich new energy – a focus in the grooves that also really seems to set his flute free on its solo lines too – wonderfully fluid in the company of other players who include Patrice Rushen on keyboards, Roland Bautista on guitar, and Ronnie Laws on saxes. Debra and Eloise Laws add in some sweet backing vocals – and titles include "Music Forever", "Land Of Passion", "We're In Ecstasy", "Heartbeats", "The Key", and "We Will Be".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Touch Of Satin
Columbia, Early 60s. Very Good-
JJ Johnson at his best – playing in a very understated way, in a group with Victor Feldman on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums. Columbia, Late 60s. Very Good
Heavy soul from the Roy Meriwether Trio – picking up at a place where the Ramsey Lewis trio first began, and taking things to a very soulful extension! Looking Out
Columbia, 1982. Near Mint-
An 80s album by McCoy Tyner, but easily one of his most soulful sessions ever – thanks to help from Phyllis Hyman and a host of great guest stars! The sound's a bit more tightly arranged than some of Tyner's 70s sessions, but there's still plenty of fire here too – a bit of a Latin ... LP, Vinyl record album

Prestige, 1965. Very Good+
A fantastic album from Sonny Criss! The record is one of his excellent late 60s "comeback" sides for Prestige – and it features incredibly solid, confident, and hard alto solos, blown with a tremendous amount of imagination.
