Various — Soul Unsigned – The 2010 Summer Session ... CD
Soul Unsigned (UK), 2010. New Copy .... $13.99
A great take on the Soul Unsigned series – one that aims a bit more at the dancefloor than previous volumes, yet still hangs onto all the strongly soulful sounds we've come to expect from the label! Mike Thompson put together the set, and the feel is soul-based club and house – music that's very much in the best Peven Everett or Rurals territory, but even more compelling, given that many of these artists are just up-and-coming acts! Titles include "Barcelona Boogie" by Leyo, "Boogie" by Uptown Funk Empire, "Some Kinda Love" by Maiko Watson, "Do Me Wrong" by Soopasoul, "Betrayal" by Fredericks Brown, "Fairy Tale" by Cornell Stone, "Everybody Knows (Mike Thompson mix)" by Judderbass, "Don't Stop" by Kwality Kontrol, "Under Love" by Floetic Lara, "Yes My Love Is Real (parts 1 & 2)" by Duane Williams, and "Cool Lovin" by DJ Dealer.

Various — Soul Unsigned Vol 1 – 14 Soulful Grooves From Unsigned & Independent Artists ... CD
Soul Unsigned (UK), 2008. New Copy .... $13.99
A great step forward for the Soul Unsigned series – a full album of never-issued tracks, and a collection that really shows the label's talents for unearthing great music! As you'd guess by the name, none of these artists have contracts with other labels – so the set's about as fresh as you can get for Neo Soul – like when you occasionally strike gold rummaging around on CD Baby, but without any of the clunkers! The set list is really great, and most of the tracks here have a really solid sound – warmth and depth that we hardly hear from some of the too-signed soul artists working out there, and proof that there's always some great soul promise around the bend – as long as you know where to look. Let Soul Unsigned do the looking for you – and kick back with 14 great tracks that include "Intrafusion" by Moses Mayes, "Don't Waste Your Time" by Mothergroove, "Lazy" by Harambe, "She" by Kre8iV 4ce, "New York Feeling" by Al Campos, "No Doubt About It" by Excellent Gentlemen, "Love ESC" by Yohimbe, and "Closer" by Black Style Mood.

Various — Soul Unsigned Vol 2 – 14 Soulful Grooves From Unsigned & Independent Artists ... CD
Soul Unsigned (UK), 2009. New Copy .... $9.99
Great work from a series we've really learned to trust for the hippest in underground soul – a rich assortment of work from some of the best acts in the underground, most of whom you probably don't already have in your CD collection! The cut selection here is fantastic – really the best of the cream of the crop, if we can be so bold – so that although the artists are new, they hardly sound like beginners – and instead have really reawakened our ears as to what makes contemporary soul music so great! 14 tracks in all – plenty of fresh music – with titles that include "Natural" by Nash Reed, "Don't Take Me For Granted" by GLO, "Gonna Give It To You" by Unkle Funkle, "Everybody Knows" by Judderbass, "Stepping Out" by Maxi, "Breakthru" by J-Funk, "Take A Closer Look" by Destruments, "True Love" by Muthafunk, "Madrid Boogie" by Venueconnection, "When Are You Gonna" by Kevin East, "Get On The Beat" by Varius Funkus, "Keep The Funk Alive" by Calumet, and "Club 44" by Frank Felix & The FU Express.

Various — Soul Unsigned Vol 4 – 14 Soulful Grooves From Unsigned & Independent Artists ... CD
Soul Unsigned (UK), 2010. New Copy .... $13.99
More amazing work from the Soul Unsigned series – a label we've really come to rely on for hipping us to the best in underground soul! Over a few short years, Soul Unsigned has gone from a virtually unknown imprint to one we really trust to uncover some great new work – really at the cutting edge of Neo Soul, and continual proof that there's plenty still bubbling under, if you just know where to look! If you've spent too much money on so-so CDs over the years, a set like this is a great place to start – both for you, and for the artists included. Titles include "Must Be Love" by Peo with Mirjam, "You Bring The Change" by Low D with Gary Poole, "Sunshine" by Paul MacInnes, "Azure Sky" by The Doggett Brothers, "Night & Day" by Dreemtime, "Stop Holding On" by Taragirl, "Feenin" by Dwayne, "What's It Good For" by Saoul, "My World" by Thia Jasmine, and "Great I Am" by Freddie Lee.

new Various — Soul Unsigned Vol 3 ... CD
Soul Unsigned (UK), 2009. New Copy .... $9.99 Out Of Stock
Mindblowing work from the Soul Unsigned series – only three volumes old, but already one of the best sources we know for tapping into the Neo Soul underground! As with the previous two sets, the quality level here is very high – music of the sort that really keeps us digging for hip soul sets from the contemporary scene – not the bigger-name artists that always get foisted to the top of the charts, but the independent ones who are still strongly dedicated to making music that really matters! As the title indicates, the artists here are all unsigned – working without any bigger label contracts – which makes it even more amazing when you hear the set, and realize that they've hit top-shelf sounds while working on their own – a great reminder that, amidst the layers of management and "handling" some singers may get, in the end it's still the artist that really matters. Titles include "Time Of Your Life" by Tyrone, "Freaky" by Excellent Gentlemen, "Next To Me" by Cool Million, "Fire" by Jally, "Amber Lady" by Roman Andren, "Love" by The Constituents, "Get Up" by Unified Tribe, "Music" by J Stever, "You've Changed" by Richard Alexander Davis, "Delightful Jazz" by Daniel Nelson & Mark Drummond, and "Give Love A Chance" by Candycream.

Chris Youngblood — In Love With You ... CD
Soul Unsigned (UK), 2010. New Copy .... $13.99
Sweet smooth soul from Chris Youngblood – the first full-length album by any artist for the Soul Unsigned label, an imprint we've already come to love for some really killer compilations! The set's a winner all the way through – laidback and jazzy, with an undercurrent that reminds us of some of our favorite mellow soul singers of the 70s, with a bit of a contemporary twist. The production style is lean enough to never get too commercial, but the album's also got a tightness that takes it way past some simple beats n keys affair too. Titles include "In Love With You", "Spend Your Life", "Love In The Morning", "Tell The Truth", "Daydreamin", "So Good", "Up & Down", "Hot", and "Lady Of My Dreams".

Various — Jump Start Music ... CD
Soul Unsigned (UK), 2010. New Copy .... $13.99
Killer cuts galore – a tight selection of the kind of Neo Soul groovers you'd find on Ginger Tony's Jump Start show for Solar Radio! The vibe here mixes laidback soul numbers with more upbeat tunes – and throughout it all, there's a sophisticated, contemporary vibe to the music – the kind of forward-thinking soul tracks we've always loved from the British and Japanese soul scenes, mixed with a few American tunes too! Titles include "Higher High" by Ralf Gum, "Turn Around (Afro Latin mix)" by Mystery & Matt Early, "Love Is In Town" by Brenda Boykin, "Day By Day" by Jazzinvaders, "Latin Groove" by Smoove & Turrell, "I Believe" by 45 with Stephanie McKay, "Something's Changing" by Wet Cookies, "Sands Of Time" by Monday Michiru, "Do What" by The Jivers, and "Dig N Swing" by Parker with Laura Collins.

Soul Unsigned (UK), 2010. New Copy .... $13.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Way more than just a "songbook" – as the set's as perfect a batch of contemporary soul as you might ever hope for! Like the previous volume in this series, the collection really stretches out to capture some real gems we might have missed otherwise – new work by a few artists we've heard before, and lots more cuts by singers who are completely new to us – and ever bit as great as the kind of Neo Soul killers that you'll find in the label's Soul Unsigned series too! The tunes are smart, sophisticated, and really well put-together – yet still also know how to keep the flag of indie soul alive and well with their sense of spontaneous energy. Titles include "Mr Do Right" by Ms Monique, "I've Got A Feeling" by Marily Ashford Brown, "Good Love" by Leon Beal, "Front Porch" by Inobe, "Brand New Day" by Asanda Bam, "Secret Box" by Four Goes, "Sit Back" by Orly, "Wishin" by Da Wonda Twinz, "Step Baby" by Cornelius MD, Queen" by Extra Rich In Class, and "If You Believe In Me" by Erin Hunt.
