Gloria JonesReunited ... LP
AVI, 1982. Very Good+ .... $2.99
A pretty odd little record from Gloria Jones – a great soul singer back in the 60s when she was pounding out the hard northern numbers, but not so great here, where she's in an odd style that mixes disco with a hard soul approach, and just doesn't work. The "Reunited" in the title refers to Gloria and Ed Cobb – her producer on earlier records, and the force behind this effort. Gloria had previously spent time working in the group T Rex and was married to the late Marc Bolan – and she dedicates the painful number "Sixty Minutes Of Making Love" to their time together. Features a remake of Gloria's original hit "Tainted Love", plus "Body Heat", "The Touch Of Venus", and "I'm Going To Run Away With Him Tonight".
(White label promo. Cover has some wear and a small sticker on front.)

new Aquarian Dream — Norman Connors Presents Aquarian Dream ... LP
Buddah, 1976. Very Good- .... $13.99
First LP from Norman Connors' jazzy soul group Aquarian Dream. Norman produced, and the groove is about what you'd imagine if he got his hands on an east coast soul group, with a lot of mellow vibes, and some more uptempo grooves. Claude Bartee plays tenor and soprano, Gloria Jones sings vocals, and Jacques Burvick plays a whole battery of cool keyboards and moogs. Tracks include the classic Chicago club track "Phoenix" – plus "Look Ahead", "Once Again", and "Treat Me Like The One You Love".
(Vinyl has marks that click. Cover has light wear, a couple of small stains, a partially split top seam, and a small split on the bottom seam.)

Ketty Lester — Ketty Lester ... LP
Pete, Early 70s. Very Good .... $9.99
An album that follows nicely in Ketty's style of the 60s – mixing together soul with more serious vocal work – but handled here with some groovier 70s touches! Ketty's clearly heard the work of singers like Nina Simone and Melba Moore by this point, and is going for a more righteous approach that includes a number of rock and spiritual soul tracks. Backings are by Lincoln Mayorga, with players that include Clare Fischer, Artie Butler, Carol Kaye, and Earl Palmer – plus a vocal group that features work by Gloria Jones and Shirley Matthews. Tracks include "You're Getting Older", "Peace Brother Peace", "Son Of A Preacher Man", "Prisoner Of Love", "Now More Than Ever", and "Living As We Live".
(Spine has one spot of old tape.)

Sisters Love — Give Me Your Love ... CD
Soul Jazz (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy .... $14.99
The first-ever full length collection of work by The Sisters Love – an ultra-hip female soul group who cut some incredibly funky singles, but never issued a full album – finally given their due in this amazing batch of singles from the late 60s and early 70s! The Sisters Love sound is a great blend of funky rhythms, hard soul vocals, and soaring harmonies on the chorus – in a way that's almost a cross between the work of Lyn Collins at People Records with the best sounds of Sweet Inspirations over at Atlantic – but even more righteous overall, thanks to production work by the likes of Willie Hutch, Gloria Jones, Gene Chandler, and Monk Higgins! The set brings together singles recorded for Motown and A&M – all recorded over a period of 6 years, but tremendously unified overall – with a badass soul sound that rivals the legendary album by The Jackson Sisters. Titles include "Give Me Your Love", "My Love Is Yours", "The Bigger You Love", "Blackbird", "Ring Once", "Mr Fix It", "You've Got To Make Your Choice", "You've Got My Mind", "Now Is The Time", "Forget It I Got It", "Ha Ha Ha", "I Know You Love Me", and "Try It You'll Like It".

new Various — Capitol Disco – 31 Disco Tracks From The Capitol Records Archives ... CD
Capitol/EMI (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 2CD .... $14.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Smooth and soulful club from the mighty Capitol Records – one of the few major labels to really understand a groove at the end of the 70s! The 2CD package is a wonderful tribute to the hipper soul coming out of Capitol at the time – a set that features some hits, some album tracks, and a fair bit of rarities that we've never seen on CD before – some lesser-known club cuts that sit beautifully here next to the bigger names in the collection. But big or small, the artists here are all pretty darn great – much more soul artists heading for the clubs in the late 70s than quickie disco acts just looking for a buck. The collection features 31 tracks in all – including a few non-Capitol cuts – with tracks that include "A Little Bit Of Love" by Gentle Persuasion, "Expressway To Your Heart" by Margo Thunder, "Sophisticated Lady" by Natalie Cole, "Windstorm" by Gloria Jones, "One Thing On My Mind" by Evie Sands, "Surrender" by Barrett Strong, "Do It Good" by Taste Of Honey, "I'm Back For More" by Tavares, "Save Your Love For Me" by Donna Washington, "Conscience" by Sun, "Party In Me" by Gene Dunlap, "Our Love Is Insane" by Desmond Child, "I'm Going Through Changes Now" by Brown Sugar, "Southern Girl (live)" by Maze, "Adventures In Paradise" by Minnie Riperton, "Man Up In The Sky" by Barrett Strong, "Positive Forces" by Tavares, "Sixty Thrills A Minute" by Mystic Merlin, "Street Corner" by Ashford & Simpson, "We All Need Love" by Troiano, "Annie Mae" by Natalie Cole, "Don't Tie Me Down" by Brown Sugar, and "Ooh Child" by Charles Jackson.
