Dirt Dog's 2nd album is a little more schizophrenic, twisted, and under the influence than his first. It sounds a little more inspired by Rick James and Flavor Flav, as raw dog as a hip hopper can shimmy without getting arrested. The second solo album by The Chef – a record that had hard time finding space outside the massive shadow of his first solo landmark Only Built 4 Cuban Linx – and like other Wu Tang solo albums of the era, there's a number of gems on here that really never had a chance to get over a bar set set so high. Female rap group featuring Finesse, formerly of Finesse & Synquis, N-Tyce & Champ MC (with J-Boo). Sort of styling themselves as a female Wu Tang, and loosely associated with them.

Wu Tang gets funky – as El Michels Affair serve up spare funky versions of two older classics – almost turning them back into the core samples from which they came! "Duel Of The Iron Mics" is totally great – slow-stepping drums, spare spooky piano, and flowing wave of sound that often carries dark little sounds and noises that shimmer at the bottom of the mix! "Bring The Ruckus" is more straightforwardly funky, but still keeps things slow – starting with a great drum break on the intro, then rolling into a very weird-sounding blend of instruments that has plenty of odd Eastern elements!

Ghostface's second full length – maybe the most worthwhile Wu solo project, and the best of all them since the first wave of the Wu. Ghost's flow is raw as hell, furious and re-energized, and so startlingly poetic that we were completely blown away. The guests seem to feed off this huge energy boom, too, with Method Man and Cappadona getting their best verses in a while, and even RZA's misguided Bobby Digital persona kicks some raw dynamite. Also features appearances by Raekwon and Redman, plus a few tracks with beats by the RZA. Tracks include "Nutmeg", "Saturday Nite", "Apollo Kids", "The Grain", "Child's Play", "Malcolm", "Buck 50", and "Cherchez La Ghost".

Once again the GZA shines as the true Genius of the Wu Tang Clan. He continues to move in a more straight ahead rhyme direction, but there's still some nice metaphorical, numerological and knowledge dropping moments sprinkled in between the all-up-in-your-face Wu attitude alongside his acronym rhyme style, over crisp Wu beats. 14 tracks, without any skits to waste your time, unless you count the obligatory intro, including "Did Ya Say That", "Silent", "Knock, Knock", "Animal Planet", "Fam (Members Only)", "Legend Of The Liquid Sword", "Luminal", "Sparring Minds", "Rough Cut"and "Uncut Material".

On the production tip, 7L pays homage to classic Wu without copying it – and utilizing both classic and completely leftfield samples in a fresh, funky way. The rhymes by Deck and Eso are top shelf, too – with a guest list that includes Roc Marciano, Oh No, Ghostface and others. Reissue pressing of this great Galt MacDermot soundtrack, featuring the totally cool sample for Busta Rhymes' big single last year, laid out in the track "Space". Lots of other cool spare funky ones, and a great record all the way through. Tight grooves, spare electric keyboards with a flat "Wu Tang" sound, and lots of choppy funky sounds. A must for sample heads and fans of off-kilter funky grooves alike! At one time, we had this for a very high price, but we managed to score a whole bunch at a new low cost. Another Dusty Groove price breakthrough!!!

A Stones Throw sci-fi masterpiece – one that was destined for greatness from conception, but we're still pretty well blown away by the final product! MC Doom and beatmaster Madlib couldn't be better suited for a collaboration. As much as we've dug the best of Doom's material of the last couple years, he's always needed a good editor – and Madlib brings nothing but the best sci-fi sound collages, scratches, and titanically driving funky beats – the grooved out 70s side of 'Lib's personality is wisely given a powder, while in the company of a vocal presence that's as insane as Doom. When it's not so pounding, the sound drops into the kinda gloomy, murky crackle of earliest Wu Tang. This is easily the best album of its kind since Dr. Octagon tore the flood gates open. Essential!!! Quite possibly the heaviest groove we've heard to date from Bronx River Parkway – a tune that snaps out with a stark little break on the beginning – really crackling with a heavy funk energy, but also sharing a bit of Wu-Tang like piano in the background! As the tune rolls on, the record picks up a bit more of a Latin flourish on the horns and vocals – setting the scene for the mellower "Nora Se Va" on the flipside – a jazzy laidback number with piano darting out nicely underneath Spanish language vocals!

Deep funk for the hip hop scene – instrumental versions of 2 Wu-Tang classics, both of them great! "CREAM" is done here as a low-down and dirty funk track – hard drums in place of the beats, scratchy guitar to enforce the darkness, and a madly tippling piano part that's pure Wu-Tang all the way! Raekwan's "Glaciers Of Ice" follows in a similar mode – familiar, yet very strange in this new incarnation – equally dark and nicely subdued, another crowning achievement for El Michels Affair!

A bit bluesy, a bit funky, and pretty raunchy all the way through – as you might expect from the name of the group! The group are a Johnny Otis side project from the late 60s – and the record's got lots of the weird funky touches of Johnny's own work of the time, all done at a nicely stoned-out style!. No players are named on the album – but vocals are by "The Mouth", guitar is by "Prince Wunnerful", and drums and piano are by "The Hawk", all of which leads us to believe that the record was cut by players with bigger status, who had something to hide! Titles include "Big John Jeeter", "The Signifyin' Monkey (parts 1 & 2)", "Hey Shine", and "Two Girls In Love (With Each Other)".
