Lee Perry & The Upsetters – rolling them Music Bones in peak form here – stellar mid 70s Black Ark material from the master! This one totally delivers the goods: raw, gritty, funky jams cut at the Black Ark during the height of Perry's most creative period. Vin Gordon's trombone is pushed waaaay up to the front of the mix in these instrumental versions, which are basically dubs, though there's not too much in the way of echo drops and atom bomb reverb – but on this album that's just the way we like it, so we can feel every beat of the chunky rhythms! 15 tracks in all, including "Coco-Macca", "The Message", "Licky-Licky", "Quinge Up", "Raw Chaw", "Four Of A Kind", "Nah Go Run", "Mek It Soon" and "Voodoo Man".

An excellent lost session from the Black Ark! Tracked by Perry with Upsetters in 1975, these stripped down dubs feature some of the dopest, funky rhythms Scratch ever cut, while others have a super spare, loping Jamaican groove. The sound is crisp and tight, without the giant thunderclaps and echo drops you'd here in a Tubby mix, but chirping guitars and sublimely funky bass ducking in and out of the mix. From the same sessions that gave us the Kung Fu Meets The Dragon set, you know it's right with titles like "Last Blood", "Deathly Hands", "Dragon Slayer", "One Armed Boxer", "Fists Of Vengeance", "Samurai Swordsman" and "Final Weapon", plus the CD includes 2 bonus tracks, "Experience" with Delroy Butler and the extended mix of "Living My Life".

Massive! An incredibly sweet, funky batch Black Ark reggae – killer cuts by Leo Graham, The Imposters, Dillinger, The Gladiators and more, most especially, the mighty Upsetters! A number of the vocal tracks have a sweet harmony sound, and while other compilations often pair dubs and vocal versions, this one skims the cream instead, only pairing up a few cuts that way, but don't worry, there's no shortage of Upsetters jammies here.
