True ReflectionWhere I'm Coming From ... CD
Atco (Japan), 1973. New Copy .... $15.99
An excellent group from the 70s East Coast scene – one with a heavy harmony sound that should have made them huge! The record was cut during the prime early days of the Sigma Sound Studios – and the record features arrangements by Philly greats like Norman Harris, Ronnie Baker, and Vince Montana – all working here in a mode that's similar to that applied to The Spinners after they made their move to Atlantic, but with a bit more edge. Yet it's the vocal harmonies that really take the cake – as they mix together deep-rooted Temptations-esque righteous vocals with sweeter harmonies in the New Jersey falsetto mode – a perfect blend that's carried off with a great deal of power here! The style is very compelling, and great on just about every cut – and titles include "Society", "That Was Yesterday", "It Really Hurts", "Look At All The Lonely People", and the great cut "Whispers".

Modulations — It's Rough Out Here ... LP
Buddah, 1975. New Copy (reissue).... $9.99
A righteous group soul classic from the 70s – the one and only album from The Modulations, and a lasting classic that almost beats the multiple album runs of some of their contemporaries! The group's a southern harmony quartet at their core, but they also get some really great backings on the set – a Philly vibe that really matches the best work from the Gamble & Huff stable, but with more of an indie vibe too – fitting for the Buddah Records placement of the set. The record features studio help from Norman Harris, Vince Montana, and Bobby Eli – whose work on the record helps link the style to the righteous grooves of groups like Soul Generation or True Reflection – both a good comparison to The Modulations too! Titles include "It's Rough Out Here", "I Found Love At Last", "Those Were The Best Days Of My Life", and "I'll Always Love You".

Richard Caiton — Reflections – 20 Tracks From A New Orleans Soul Hero ... CD
Grapevine (UK), 1960s/1970s. New Copy .... $15.99 19.99
Get ready to discover a true soul genius – the vastly under-known Richard Caiton, an excellent sweet soul singer who hailed from the New Orleans scene of the 60s! Unlike some of his more famous Crescent City contemporaries, who sung in a chunkier funkier style, Caiton's got a mellow soul approach that's much more in keeping with east coast work of the same period. His voice has a sweetly crackling style that we really love – never too sweet, but with an honest and personal approach that brings some nice fragile touches to his music. This collection of work is the first time Caiton's genius has ever been properly brought to light, as most of his tunes were issued on smaller labels, only as singles – leaving it to the genius compilers at Grapevine to bring together all of these great rare tracks from the late 60s and early 70s. 20 tracks in all, with titles that include "I Like To Get Near You", "Take A Hold Brother & Sister", "Superman", "Got To Get Across To You", "I See Love Girl In Your Eyes", "I Gotcha My Love", "Forgive Me Baby", "Reflections", "Our Love Is True", "I'm Not The Other Man", and "What's Wrong Baby".
