One of the best singles in years from the lovely Nicole Willis – and that's saying a heck of a lot, given how much we always love her work! Both Nicole and The Soul Investigators seem to hit a new level with their work on "Tell Me" – a groove that's more mature than before, and not just raw funk – but instead almost a 70s soul style that's a perfect maturation of both talents! The hook is wonderful – and the style is continued strongly on the slow funky flipside!

A really righteous little number from Nicole Willis – one that comes across with the funky sophistication of the best work on early 70s Curtom Records! Funky grooves from The Soul Investigators mix with a nice bit of strings on the track – elevating the tune from straight deep funk mode into something far hipper – and showing us that Nicole's got all the vocal chops to meet the challenge! A really wonderful number that would have been one of our favorite tracks of the 70s, had it been issued so many years ago!

Sweet funky soul from Willie West & The High Society Bros! "Lesson Of Love" is a steady groover, with the vocals delivered in something of a laidback style, but with a depth of true soul emotion that really pushes it into sublime territory. Instrumentally. it's got the drums prominent for a funky backbone, plus some sweet guitar, organ and brass backing.

A dark soul groover from Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators – easily one of Nicole's deepest tracks ever, and another proud outing for the mighty Timmion label! Willis is an excellent singer with a range that goes far beyond most other funk divas – and the tune itself has complicated jazzy changes that make it sound much more like a true classic from back in the day, and not just another retro funk tune. The instrumental is great too – with some great drums and warm inflections on guitar!

Cali style soul from Myron E & the funky Finnish Soul Investigators! "On Broadway" has something of a nothern soul styled groove – a funky vibe of raw drums, guitar & organ – with some tasty strings to bring some flight to the groove! A midtempo gem of a tune that sounds like a lost 45 from the golden age of independent group soul & funk.

A massive groove from Myron E – one of our favorite talents in the deep funk underground! "Pot Club" has a groove as dark as its title – kind of muddy at the bottom, which makes it a perfect match for the vocals – which have these slightly spacey quality, even though they're straightly soulful overall! There's plenty of punch at the bottom, much more so than you'd expect from such a pot-infused number – and production is by D, who we think is Didier – and if so, gives this cut some of his trademark messed-up funky touches!

Cold in the storm, but warmth in the heart – a wonderful old school number from Willie West – done with a slow funk rhythm at the back, and these heartbreaking sweet soul lyrics upfront! There's a touch of harmony at the start, but Willie's raspy lead holds most of the tune on its own – in a way that makes us feel like we've uncovered some lost New Jersey soul single from the late 60s! "She's So Wise" has a great vintage feel too – a bit more upbeat, with a sweet Hammond line bubbling through the tune – helping Willie find a slightly warmer mode, but still mighty sweet!
