new Throbbing Gristle2nd Annual Report ... CD
Mute, 1977. Used .... $8.99
Some of the darkest, most bracing music ever recorded by Throbbing Gristle – and a record that arguably captures the group at their best! The sounds here are virtually the blueprint for industrialism for years to come – loads of low-end sonic rumblings, with instrumentation distorted beyond any sense of recognition – yet used in ways that are often slightly tuneful, kind of sneaking in a sense of song through the back door – that odd combination that always made TG stand way ahead of most of their contemporary imitators! Genesis P is incredibly chilling, and the analogue electronics are breathtaking – and titles include the classic "Slug Bait", in a few different live iterations – plus "Maggot Death", "Industrial Introduction", and the soundtrack of the Coum film "After Cease To Exist". Still one of the all-time chilling classics!

new Throbbing GristleThrobbing Gristle's Greatest Hits ... CD
Mute, 1980. Used .... $7.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Hard to imagine Throbbing Gristle having a "hits" album – given that the group were hardly the stuff of mainstream charts or radio play – but in contrast to some of their more obtuse albums of the late 70s, the record does have something of more focused feel as well! The set brings together material from some of TGs 7" singles, with a few more straightforward album tracks too – quite a change from the darker, more rambling live recordings from some of the "annual report" sets – and a way to hone in on some of the more focused genius moments of the group! The cover's a great homage to Martin Denny – to whom the album is dedicated (proof again that TG were years ahead of their time – even in recognizing the past before others) – and titles include "Blood On The Floor", "What A Day", "Tiab Guls", "Hamburger Lady", "Hot On The Heels Of Love", "Subhuman", "AB/7A", and "Adrenalin".

new Joy Division — YMCA 2-8-79 (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Acme (UK), 1979. New Copy .... $22.99
Joy Division recorded live at The Prince Of Wales Conference Center, below the YMCA – and a pretty stunning document of the pioneering band's mix of raw intensity with heavy mood – in a rare live setting! It's a legendary set – one that kicked off a 4 night series of shows at the venue that also included Throbbing Gristle, The Teardrop Explodes, Echo & The Bunnyman, Scritti Politti and others. Joy Division brings an intensity that shows their roots in punk rock, but also hints at the moodier sounds to come. It's a soundboard recording and of much better quality than is often found in similarly captured performances by underground heavies of the era. Includes "Dead Souls", "Disorder", "Wilderness", "Autosuggestion", "Transmission", "Day Of The Lords", "She's Lost Control", "Shadowplay", "Atrocity Exhibtion" and "Insight".
(180 gram vinyl – in a textured sleeve, with color insert/poster.)
