Glenn Underground — Forgotten Art (Music) ... CD
Strictly Jaz Unit, 2011. New Copy .... $12.99
Chicago deep house player & producer Glenn Underground's deepest and most soul jazz-steeped effort to date! We really thought Glenn stepped up his game pretty decisively on the previous full length for his Strictly Jaz Unit label – and Forgotten Art is another major leap forward. This is modern instrumental club music at it's most soulful, jazz aware and able – the beats and rhythms drive the sound, but there's so much vibrant, live energy here – keys, horns and eclectic percussion in particular. Classic dance music from 70s jazz & disco to benchmark house influences flow in and out, but it's also profoundly contemporary without copping to current trends – in other words, it's straight up built to last. Nah, Glenn. . .we won't forget this one! Titles include "Strumming & Thinking", "Forgotten Art (Music)", "Safe At Home", "Robots & Bumblebees (A Tribute To Patrick Adams)", "Shiloh (A King's Return)", "Silent Pimp (Peace In My Place)", "Tabernacle", "What's Next" and "Peace For Nippon (Japan)",

Glenn Underground — July 12, 1979 ... CD
Strictly Jaz Unit, 2012. New Copy .... $12.99
Warmly soulful sounds from Chicago deep house icon Glenn Underground – who continues to masterfully translate dancefloor-tailored soundscapes into the full length album format – and he does it with a compelling vibe that leaves a lot of his contemporaries in the dust! Glenn is great simply on the dancefloor tip, but he goes well beyond the call of duty by bringing in a wealth of jazzy and soulful instrumentation. So, along with the percolating beats and insistent rhythms, you get these sax solos and other brass goodness, some brilliant keyboard grooves and lots more. Dancefloor soul with an uncommon depth! Includes "Calor (Heat)", "For The Love Of Money", "Master Fuze", "Scenic Route", "The Band Played On" "DiscoSucks (Interlude)", "Going Bananas (Gorilla Interlude)", "Service", "AfterHours", "Reckless Art" and more.

Glenn Underground — Shiloh (A King's Return)/We, The Party (Let's Get Down) ... 12-inch
Strictly Jaz Unit, 2011. New Copy .... $9.99
Standouts from Glenn Underground's peak-level Forgotton Art (Music)! "Shiloh (A King's Return)" pretty well encapsulates what we love most about Glenn's work from this period. It's got an unshakable dancefloor rhythm and a heavy bass groove – and kicked to a higher level with a beautiful jazzy horn passage. "We, The Party (Let’s Get Down)" is the equally hypnotic cut on the flip.

new Glenn Underground — Forgotten Art (Music)/Strumming & Thinking Remix ... 12-inch
Strictly Jaz Unit, 2011. New Copy .... $9.99 Out Of Stock
A vinyl sampler for Glenn Underground's stellar Forgotten Art (Music) – a record that features some of the Chi deep house mainstay's best work in years – and an exclusive remix! Both cuts bring a soul jazz depth to the contemporary deep house scene that's really wonderful. "Forgotten Art (Music)" has steadily danceable beat underneath some great jazzy keys, which span the whole side – along with some other slow-building atmosphere. The remix of "Strumming & Thinking" has more of a cosmic vibe, thanks to some spacier keys and tripped out bits of vocal – but it's still plenty jazzy – with some horns in the mix, too.

new J Davis Trio — Vintage EP ... CD
Yo Yo Smuggler, 2011. New Copy .... $2.99 Out Of Stock
Chicago hip hop jazz veterans J Davis Trio return with a solid EP – laid down with an impressive roster of guest musicians from the Chi community – led by the classic hip hop learned rhymes of Julio Davis! The group is as fresh as ever, with rhymes, keys and vibes by Davis – the rhymes reminiscent of Chali 2na and that school of throwback-styled charismatic flow – and vibes that add a bit of Roy Ayers-y jazz funk. Never strictly a trio, the group and extended family & friends on this set includes bassis Dave Smith, trumpet player Dave Winer, drums by San Sharp, sax by Chris Greene, congas by Ryan Murphy, violin by Inger Carle and others. The featured guest collaborators include vibes player Joe Sonnefeldt, guitarist, singer and on this set, Latin rapper Carlos Ortega, Chicago musical omnivore Nick Tremulis on electric guitar, and flute player Paul Mertens. Includes "The Answer" with Joe Sonnefeldt, "Girl, Intoxicating" with Carlos Ortega, "The Firm Swing" with Nick Tremulis and "The Bell Curve" with Paul Mertens.
