Sister SledgeCircle Of Love ... LP
Atco, 1975. Very Good+ .... $6.99
A sweet early album from Sister Sledge – a great transformation of an earlier girl soul sound into a fuller, more mature disco mode for the 70s – all served up with a freshness that's quite appealing if you only know their later hits! Production is by Tony Silvester and Bert De Coteaux – and the style is very much in the Philly mode of the time (even though the album was recorded in New York) – a full sound on the more upbeat numbers, but a warm and gentle approach on the mellower numbers – especially some of the great harmony tracks that really stand out in the set! Most titles were co-written by Gwen Guthrie and Patric Grant – but the album also includes tunes by Patrick Adams and Thom Bell & Linda Creed too. Titles include "Circle Of Love", "Give In To Love", "Cross My Heart", "Love Don't You Go Through No Changes On Me", "Don't You Miss Him Now", "Pain Reliever", and "Fireman".
(Cover has unglued seams, a cut corner, some wear, and creasing.)

new Various — Atlantiquity – Atlantic Soul Remixed ... CD
Rhino/Atlantic, 1960s/1970s/2005. Used .... $3.99
One of the best remix projects we've heard in years – most likely because the original work is so great! As the title indicates, the set features older Atlantic soul classics – remixed by a host of modern talents that include King Britt, Sa-Ra, Vikter Duplaix, and Quantic – all producers who really respect the sound of the original tunes! There's a great range of styles in the original work – which runs from soul jazz, to 70s soul, to 80s groove – and in a way, the whole thing's kind of an imagined selection of what some of these tunes might have sounded like, had they been issued during the time of 12" remixes! Titles include "Tonight" by Kleer remixed by Sa-Ra with Meshell Ndegeocello, "Watching You" by Slave remixed by Vikter Duplaix, "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge remixed by Daz-I-Kue, "Warm Summer Night" by Chic remixed by King Britt, "Little Ghetto Boy" by Donny Hathaway remixed by Freddy L, "Pick Up The Pieces" by Average White Band remixed by Charlie Dark, "Getting Uptown" by United 8 remixed by Quantic, "Nubian Lady" by Yusef Lateef remixed by Metisse, and "Riding High" by Faze-O remixed by Waajeed.

Various — Spirit Of Philadelphia 3 ... CD
Expansion (UK), 1970s. New Copy .... $16.99
The third volume in Expansion's excellent series of fantastic soul from Philly – one soaringly melodic, soulful masterpiece after another – the best set yet! Expansion hasn't rushed these Spirit Of Philadelphia compilations onto the market – number 3 comes nearly decade sense we were knocked out by the first. We don't know if this time taking approach is what makes them so good or not, all we know is that it's totally great! Includes numbers by Tapestry, Ecstasy, Passion & Pain, Ghetto Children, Debbie Taylor, Major Harris, Sister Sledge, Brown Sugar and more – going way past the obvious hits! 17 tracks in all: "It's Not The World That's Messed Up" by Tapestry, "New To You" by Sharon Paige, "I Wouldn't Give You Up" by Ecstasy, Passion & Pain, "When You Look At Me" by Barbara Mason, "I Just Gotta Find Someone To Love" by Ghetto Children, "I Have Learned To Do Without You" by Debbie Taylor, "Help Me Find A Way (To Say I Love You)" by Little Anthony & The Imperials, "This Is What You Mean To Me" by Major Harris and more.

new Various — Disco-Trek ... LP
Atlantic, 1976. Used .... $12.99 Out Of Stock
A silly title, but a great selection of grooves – and a record that features a few really nice clubby soul tracks from the Atlantic catalog – making a rare appearance on LP! Most of the work has a prime mid 70s Philly groove – no surprise, since Tom Moulton put together the set, and remixed a few of the tracks at Sigma sound – taking grooves from the New York, Miami, and Muscle Shoals scenes – and making them sit nicely next to homegrown Philly tracks! Titles include the funky break classic "Getting Uptown (To Get Down)" by United 8, "I Can Understand It" by The Valentinos, "This World" by Sweet Inspirations, "Look Me Up" by Blue Magic, "Mama Never Told Me" by Sister Sledge, "Time" by Jackie Moore, "You Call Me Back" by Clyde Brown", "Look Me Up" by Blue Magic, and "Got To Get You Back" by Sons Of Robin Stone.
(Cover has light ring & edge wear.)
