Signor WolfFunk Exp ... CD
Cinedelic (Italy), 2006. New Copy .... $13.99
70s action film-styled funk from the Italian scene from Signor Wolf – one that certainly lives up the experience promised by the title! The Signor Wolf approach is much more styled after the pulpy funk era soundtracks of the 70s than many of the JBs-born funk revival projects out there today – with tight, freaky guitars, persistently rollicking beats and spunky bass, organ, vibes and some subtle programmed elements. A promising set – and unique in relation to its peers! 11 tracks in all: "Mr. Wolf", "Il Cerchio Si Chiude", the flute funk homage "Funky Trouble", "Open Race", "Escape", "Il Corpo", "Affari Di Famiglia", "Guilty's Trip", "Ultima Bossa" and "7 Years After".

Signor Wolf Funk Exp — Funkonnection ... CD
Cinedelic (Italy), 2011. New Copy .... $15.99
70s sounds galore – and a great second step for Signor Wolf! The set's even more funk-heavy than his previous recordings – and very much in a 70s mode throughout – with basslines, keyboards, and guitar parts that reference the classic era of blacksploitation funk – served up in a mix of live instrumentation and funky programs, and recorded with a nicely faithful style overall. There's a lot of tracks on the album, which makes for a few surprising twists and turns – and most numbers here are instrumental, with titles that include "Mr Stray Bullet", "Lips & Laps", "Funk Investigation", "Territorial Fight", "Bad Queen Gang", "Carter's Dope", "You Spin Me Round", "The Hunt", and "Mambo Jail".

Nylon — Superfreaky ... CD
Cinedelic (Italy), 2008. New Copy .... $6.99
A mix of jazz, funk, and more from Marco Severini – an artist we previously knew under his Signor Wolf incarnation, but who's working here in a different mode overall! The music's a lot more organic than you might guess from a name like "nylon" – often heavy on keyboards and organ from Severini, plus bits of horns, live drums, and occasional voices – never really singing, but kind of filtered into the rhythms with a range of different samples as well. Rhythms are sometimes programmed, sometimes live – and the instrumentation has the same blend of live and sampled that we love in some of the best work on the Irma label over the years. Titles include "Clubossa", "Open Your Eyes", "Gotcha Groove", "The Night Smocker", "Turn Off The Light", "Berlino", "Bub O Dub", and "Sun Is Shinin".

Various — Dario Argento ... CD
Mediane (Italy), 1960s/1970s. New Copy .... $13.99
An Italian horror extravaganza – a set devoted to the films of Dario Argento, and the music that went with them! The set's a distillation of a previous hardcover edition – and features a nicely-done 32 page booklet filled with gripping images from Argento's classic spooky films of the 70s and early 80s – and the CD features loads of great creepy music, with 16 cuts that include "Placcaggio" and "Ninna Nanna In Blue" by Ennio Morricone, "Profondo Rosso" and "Mad Puppet" by Goblin, "Inferno" by Keith Emerson, "Suspiria" and "Tenebre" by Claudio Simonetti, "Steel Grave" by Steel Grave, "Trauma" by Pino Donaggio, and "Dark Dreams" by Signor Wolf – a tribute track added to the package!
