John Barry/Shirley BasseyGoldfinger (180 gram pressing) ... LP
United Artists/Capitol, 1964. New Copy (reissue).... $17.99 19.99
The soundtrack that put John Barry over the top – and to many, THE James Bond soundtrack! The album chills from the first notes of the haunting title theme – the majestic "Goldfinger", sung by Shirley Bassey with a tone that's as dangerous as a razor-sharp hat spinning through the air! Barry then takes over with some wonderful instrumentals – a blend of crime jazz, mood pieces, chase themes, and more – all peppered with that dark dark Bond theme that we love so much! Titles include "Into Miami", "Teasing The Korean", "Alpine Drive", "Bond Back In Action", "Gassing The Gangsters", and "Death Of Goldfinger".

new Shirley BasseyShirley Bassey Is Really Something ... LP
United Artists, Late 60s. Used .... $12.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Funky Shirley Bassey! This is a great set of Shirley's groove-happy work cut in the late 60s – hip tunes arranged by UK easy maestro Johnny Harris, best known for his fantastic work on the Stepping Stones record under his own name, forever a beathead classic! Features the great, funky big band version of "Light My Fire" – one of Shirley's best tunes ever, and a cut that's been sampled and remixed often in recent years! Also includes the breakbeat version of "Spinning Wheel", and the cuts "My Way", "Sea & Sand", "What About Today?", "You & I", "Easy To Be Hard", "Life Goes On" and "Yesterday I Heard The Rain".
(Cover has some light wear.)

new Shirley BasseyShirley/Let's Face The Music ... CD
EMI (UK), 1961/1962. New Copy .... $7.99 Out Of Stock
2 early gems from Shirley Bassey – both albums recorded before her worldwide "Goldfinger" fame, in a mode that's got a lusher, more serious feel! Shirley features arrangements by Geoff Love, and Let's Face The Music has Nelson Riddle at the head of the orchestra – and both of them give Shirley the kind of full backing and rich sound needed to take her voice into some very heady territory! The set features 22 tracks in all, and titles include "Imagination", "All The Things You Are", "Let There Be Love", "All At Once", "For Every Man There's A Woman", "I'm Shooting High", "Hooray For Love", "All Of Me", and "Spring Is Here".

Peggy Lee — Raindrops ... LP
Capitol, Early 70s. Very Good+ .... $3.99
A hip collection of tracks from Peggy Lee – featuring tunes recorded for Capitol during the late 60s and early 70s, put together as a special package for Placidyl sleeping pills! The album's hardly sleepy, though – and the standout cut is Peggy's awesome version of "Spinning Wheel" – a monster groover that puts her in the company of Doris or Shirley Bassey, as the cut's got a fantastic break and a great groove throughout! We totally dig the other stuff, too – and titles include "Pieces Of Dreams", "Let's Get Lost In Now", "Two For The Road", "Watch What Happens", and "You'll Remember Me".
(Capitol/Creative Products pressing.)

Riz Ortolani — Il Mondo Di Riz Ortolani (4CD set) ... CD
WEA (Italy), 1960s/1970s. New Copy 4CD .... $33.99
A wonderful little package – way more than just a collection of soundtrack work by Italian maestro Riz Ortolani – and instead, a fully-fleshed look at his long career – with vocal, instrumental, and even some jazz titles too! The 4CD set comes in a book-styled package – with some great images from Ortolani's career in the middle, and notes in Italian – and the CDs break things up beautifully, to offer a rich look at the music in ways we hardly would have expected – showing lots of aspects of Riz's career we've never heard on CD! CD 1 features famous film themes – including "Sweet Dreams", "Africa Addion", "Yellow Rolls Royce", "The Great Dreamer", and many others. CD 2 features vocal and instrumental interpretations of Ortolani's compositions – with tracks by Jack Jones, Dizzy Gillespie, Fabio Boltro, Aretha Franklin, Shirley Bassey, Erroll Garner, Johnny Mathis, Julie London, Matt Monro, and others. CD 3 is titled Unforgettable Love – and features loads of sweet 60s instrumentals, all with a soundtracky sort of feel – including "Magic Man", "Una Casa A Roma", "Lui Lui Lui", "My Blue", "Un Amore Cosi Tenero", "Easy Life", "Til Love Touches Your Life", and "True Confession". And CD 4 is the most striking of all – some rare jazz tracks swung strongly by Ortolani, most of them larger ensemble numbers – with titles that include "The Cold Nose", "St Francisco Railways", "Miami Beach", "Free Dixie", "Please Another Ball", "The Day Of Anger", and "Unna Sull'Altra".
