New Salah Ragab & The Cairo Jazz BandTribute To Sun Ra/Latino In Cairo (previously unreleased) ... 7-inch
Art Yard (UK), 1973. New Copy ... $14.99
Previously unreleased material from the legendary Salah Ragab – two tracks of exotic, jazzy grooves! "Tribute To Sun Ra" is a cut that Ra would have loved – a jaunty little groover that has some angular horns on the top – very "Eastern" in feel, over a romping rhythm that has piano dancing along with the percussion! "Latino In Cairo" has a similar cross-cultural feel – a definite Latin bent in the rhythms, but plenty of trademark Ragab touches too – including some snakey lines on sax and flute, and some wonderfully dramatic piano hitting hard with the drums! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Sun Ra/Salah RagabSun Ra Arkestra Meets Salah Ragab In Egypt ... CD
Golden Years (UK), Early 70s/Early 80s. New Copy ... $14.99
Really unique recordings from the Sun Ra Arkestra – material recorded in Egypt during the early 70s and early 80s – juxtaposed with sessions from percussionist Salah Ragab and the Cairo Jazz Band! The work here has much more of a "jazz meets world" sound than some of Ra's other recordings – and most tracks are extremely melodic and rhythmic – in a way that mixes Eastern instrumentation and themes with some of the more familiar Arkestra modes – a sound that takes the Sun Ra groove one step further, and which sounds totally sublime! Highlights include the groover "Egypt Strut", the other-worldly "Watusa", the flute-heavy "Oriental Mood", and beautiful "Dawn". Really great stuff – and a key glimpse at this rare slice of Ra's career! CD
