Freeez — Gonna Get You (2CD deluxe edition) ... CD
Beggars Banquet/SFE (UK), 1983. New Copy 2CD .... $18.99
Early 80s clubby funk & soul from Freeez – a pretty sweet mix of period synth and boogie soul with far richer, live instrumentation and solid, hooky songwriting! Freeez recorded Gonna Get You in Manhattan – and you can certainly hear the NYC culture of the time flowing nicely in the groove. The songs are really good, and catchy enough to have caught on a much bigger level – with male and female lead and chorus backing vocals, and the synths and drum machines pulse and thump underneath congas, bongos and other percussion, Rhodes, piano and other elements. Includes "We've Got The Juice", "Can't Keep My Love", "Love's Gonna Get You", "Pop Goes My Love", "IOU", "Freezin'", "Can You", "Watch Me" and "Gonna Get You (Megamix)" – the 13 minute closer of disc 1. Disc 2 features 13 bonus tracks: "IOU (7" Version)", "We Got The Jazz", "Scratch Goes My Dub (7" Version)", "Love's Gonna Get You (7" Version)", "IOU – Megamix", "A Capella U" and more.

new Freeez — Southern Freeez (plus Anti Freeez & bonus tracks) ... CD
SFE (UK), 1981. New Copy 2CD .... $14.99 Out Of Stock
The clubby jazz funk debut of Freeez – plus the Anti-Freeez remix album from a couple years later – issued together along with even more bonus material in this great 2CD set! Dancefloor ready live band grooving is the warmly beating heart of the Freeez sound at this early point – with heated drums and killer basslines driving it – clearly influenced by late 70s international club sounds, but with this great, tight energy and dexterous musicianship that could only come from a real, functioning, true band. Nice stuff! Disc One includes the original album & remixes: "Mariposa (Butterfly)", "Caribbean Winter", "Easy On The Onions", "Sunset", "Flying High", "Roller Chase", "First Love" and more from the original, plus bonus tracks including "Ainti-Freeez (Set Me Free) – Disco Version", "Fly By Night", "Flying High (12" Remix)" and more. Disc Two includes early singles, demos, instrumentals and the complete Anti-Freeez remix album from 1984 – with "Keep In Touch", "Hot Footing It", "Stay", "Roller Chase (1984 Remix)", "Alone (1984 Remix)", "One To One (1984 Remix)", "Caribbean Winter (1984 Remix)", "Say You Will Be My Lover (Previously Unreleased Demo)" and more. 30 tracks on 2CDs.

Lenny Bruce — Interviews Of Our Times ... LP
Fantasy, Late 50s. Very Good+ .... $11.99
Not necessarily a record of interviews – as the title might make you think – but one of Bruce's best records for Fantasy! The album's got some very edgey bits that approximate his live material, and which take the best part of his cleaner act, and transfer them well to record. Titles include "Dijinni In The Candy Store", "Enchanting Transylvania", "Interview With Dr Sholem Stein", "The Interview", "All Broadway Musicals Sound The Same, Especially The Baritones", and "The March Of High Fidelity".
(Maroon label pressing.)

Giorgio Gaslini — Quando Le Donne Si Chiamavano Madonne (aka Cuando Las Mujeres Se Llaman Seaoras) (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Cinevox/Saimel (Spain), 1973. New Copy .... $22.99
Surprisingly lyrical soundtrack work from Giorgio Gaslini – not nearly as dark as some of his scoring for horror films, or as stark as his avant jazz recordings! The film's a period piece, and Gaslini uses a mix of woodwinds, light strings, and just a bit of keyboards at times – often in spare ways that slide into a few moodier moments on the best numbers – sometimes touched by a bit of vocals from the great Edda Dell'Orso! A few numbers echo the setting of the film more directly, but with a slightly sinister vibe – and titles include "Notturino", "Polifonia", "Atmosfera Di Suoni", "Piccola Invenzione A Due Voci", "Sorrisi Di Madonne", and "Saltarello Antico". CD features 14 tracks from the original album, plus 8 more from the film as well!

new Carlo Rustichelli — Detenuto In Attesa Di Giudizio ... CD
GDM (Italy), 1970. New Copy .... $14.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Easily one of the greatest soundtracks we've ever heard from Carlo Rustichelli – a set that soars and sways with sexy ambiance not always present in his other work! The work was penned for a comedic film that starred Alberto Sordi, but it's filled with touches that are often moodier and more romantic than you'd guess for such a film – a blend of string-heavy tunes that sweep along with the deft grace of a late 60s French soundtrack, and others that take on a much sparer sound, and often use these cool "watery" notes that hang there in air and really sound beautiful! The original score is augmented here by 5 bonus tracks – and titles include "In Attesa Di Giudizio", "Viaggio In Italia", "L'Arresto", "Disperazione Di Un Detenuto", "Incontro Giuseppe E Ingrid", and "Trasferimento In Carcere".

new Richie Cole — Alto Madness/Hollywood Madness ... CD
Muse/32 Jazz, 1977/1979. Used 2CD .... $16.99 Out Of Stock
Nothing too mad here, Alto Madness is a wonderful record that really shows the genius of Richie Cole in the 70s! Cole on Muse is a wonderful combination – sharp-edged alto sax, rooted in tradition – but let loose on some freer soul jazz modes as well, really showing the strong jazz underground that was bubbling strongly at the time. Cole's alto is set up beautifully with rhythm from Harold Mabern on piano, Rick Laird or Steve Gilmore on bass, and Eddie Gladden on drums – and the record also features percussion from Ray Mantill and guitar from Vic Juris – both players who shape the sound of the record differently than you might expect. As on other Cole records of the time, Eddie Jefferson makes a great guest appearance – singing wonderfully on "Moody's Mood 78" and "The Common Touch" – the latter of which is a great lost bit of Jefferson from the 70s. Other cuts include "Cole's Nocturne", "The Price Is Right", "Remember Your Day Off", and "Last Tango In Paris". Hollywood Madness, a great example of the Muse Records charm of altoist Richie Cole – bop-fired creativity at its peak, mixed with some added contemporary elements to keep things fresh! In this case, Richie's horn takes on some key bop classics, but also opens up a bit with vocalsits too – Eddie Jefferson on versions of "Hi Fly", "Relaxin At Camarillo", and "Waiting For Waits" – the latter of which also features Tom Waits as well! The Manhattan Transfer make some subtle guest appearances too – but in ways that are much more restrained than their own albums, really leaving most room for Richie's horn. Bruce Forman plays guitar and Dick Hindman piano – and titles include "Hi Fly", "Relaxin At Camarillo", "Hooray For Hollywood", "I Love Lucy", "Malibu Breeze", "Waiting For Waits", and "Tokyo Rose Sings The Hollywood Blues".
(Out of print. Includes original slipcase.)

new Devo — Live In Seattle 1981 ... CD
Booji Boy, 1981. New Copy .... $13.99 14.98 Out Of Stock
Devo brings their classic theory of De-Evolution to the Spuds of Seattle in 1981 – right around the time of the group's popular peak! Devo archivist Michael Pilmer (of Devo-Obsesso, ground zero for all things Devo on the web) purportedly found the tapes in a shoebox full of cassettes in Bob No 2’s home some years ago, which he immediately transferred it to DAT – and now we have this terrific document of Devo on the New Traditionalists tour. The set features a good portion of tracks from that album as well as live favorites from their earlier albums that are amazing to this day! Includes "Going Under", "Through Being Cool", "Jerkin' Back N' Forth", "Soft Things", "Planet Earth", "Whip It", "Super Thing", "Mongoloid", "Jocko Homo", "Smart Patrol/Mr DNA", "Girl You Want", "Gut Feeling", "Gates Of Steel", "Beautiful World", "Working In A Coalmine" and more.
