new Ashley Kahn — House That Trane Built – The Story Of Impulse Records (hardcover) ... Book
WW Norton, 2006. New Copy Book .... $7.99 29.95
A wonderful tribute to the Impulse Records label – one that's put together with as much graphic sensitivity as you'll find on the company's album covers of the 60s! The book is incredibly well researched – both from archival material and over 50 interviews with artists and producers associated with the label – and these writings are interspersed with a wealth of great images, including album covers, session photos, and vintage advertisements! There's also a full discography in the back, and a very helpful index – and at 338 pages, the book is a wealth of information. Hardcover, and a bargain at this price!

Peter Muldavin — Complete Guide To Vintage Children's Records – Identification & Value Guide ... Book
Collector Books, 2007. New Copy .... $5.99 24.95
A really cool guide to an under-researched side of the record business – the decades of albums and singles issued for the younger market – served up in a book that's as colorful as the records themselves! The volume is partly a price guide, partly a discography – and it's printed on super-heavy paper, full color, with loads of images of these cool little records! Plus, the front section features a lot of specific details on labels and pressings – a great help, given how unusual some of these were – and how few of the records have survived the passage of time in good condition. Over 400 pages, softcover, and very heavy!
(Spine has a remainder mark.)

Various — Eccentric Soul – Omnibus (book & digital download) ... Book
Numero, 2012. New Copy Book .... $91.99 99.99
A download-only version of the Numero Omnibus – no vinyl, but a beautiful booklet, and download code for all 90 tracks in the 45 collection! The price is high, but you get a hell of a lot of value for the package – the digital version of a funky 45 collection to rival longtime collectors – a heck of a bargain when you consider it that way! Each song is unique to the set – rare soul and funk gems that have not appeared on other Numero compilations or 45s – presented here as a unique collection that continues Numero's tireless digging of the American soul underground of the 60s and 70s. The book features a page on each single, with details on the song, photos, and more – all in glorious color, and wrapped up in a hardcover emblazoned with gold text!

new Ulrich Klatte — Cosmic Price Guide 2008/2010 (expanded & revised 3rd edition hardcover) ... Book
CPG (Germany), 2010. New Copy Book .... $44.99 Out Of Stock
A pricey book, but a great one too – an essential guide to all things trippy and far-out – and a volume that covers countless great records from the 60s and 70s! As you'd guess from the title, there's a fair bit of listings for prog, psyche, and other wild rock genres – but there's also a fair bit of avant, experimental, electronic, and even jazz recordings – such is the amazingly expansive taste of the cosmic scene! The book is divided into third sections – the first identifying key artists and key recordings, with dates, label, catalog numbers, and a rough price for value on the used market. The second section lists important labels in order, with all the best releases. But then the third section is the best – a wealth of rare cover images, all in full color – really amazing records, with well over 1200 records covered in that section! The book is hardcover, 448 pages, and very well put together – certainly worth the price.
