Redd Foxx doing is thing live in '75 at the Apollo – his return to recording after 12 years without a comedy album! You Gotta Wash Your Ass was cut while Sanford & Son was still in production – making this blue performance a gritty return to form for Foxx! It isn't as flamboyantly raw as some of his earlier records – but there are a lot of funny moments here – with a laidback Foxx riffing on themes that younger black comics were only then catching up with! It's best routine might be the one on the meaning of "Funky" – and that one's just waiting for one of you budding DJs to start cutting it up on the 1's and 2's! Other bits & punchlines include "Ugly Kids In New York", "Two Sissies", "I Was An Altar Boy", "Have You Tried Ban Roll On?", "I Love Black Women", "You're Kind Of Dumb & Ugly", "I Hate A Loud Broad", "I Stick It In Beans", "Ni**er's In The Dictionary", "You Look Like A Pu**y To Me" and "You Gotta Wash Your Ass".

A pretty rare one – and one of the best albums that Eddie Lockjaw Davis ever recorded! The album takes Eddie's usual trio with Shirley Scott on organ, and adds in some extra bongos and conga – by Luiz Perez and Ray Barretto, respectively – to create a Latinized version of soul jazz, with a very nice swing! The album grooves well on nearly every track – almost in the mode of Eddie's classic Afro-Jaws album – and the setting really brings out the best in his tenor work, cutting across lines in a way that almost hearkens back to his R&B days. Titles include "Dobbin The Redd Foxx", "Last Train From Overbrook", "Fast Spiral", "Dancero", and "That Old Black Magic".

A 70s classic from the team of Skillet & Leroy – bold, bawdy, and riotous party work right from the start! Some of the numbers are kind of an update of the older "open the door Richard" mode – with the pair trading roles over skits in different settings – but the bulk features wonderful wordplay that rivals some of the Redd Foxx material of the 60s – occasionally set to funky grooves, to help with a bit of segue! Routines include "The Pregnant Queer", "Big Dead Dick", "The Midget Woman", "Four Balls", and "The Crabs". CD also seems to feature bonus material – with tracks by Lawanda Page!

Prince Paul's wit is very firmly intact – as you'd guess from the title and cover of the record, which both support the wonderfully sharp work within! The album works almost as a mini sound play – with spoken narrated bits mixed with beats and rhythms – all proof to R Kelly that this sort of project works way better with a strong dose of humor – and with the kind of creative beatcraft of Prince Paul. The set features guest work by Breeze Brewin, Tim Meadows, Chris Rock, Peanut Butter Wolf, Rza, Don Newkirk, Freddie Foxx, Erick Sermon, and Rosie Perez – and titles include "Thug Boat", "Wake Up", "Steppin", "Paid It No Mind", "Craigslist", "Snitch", and "Dude You Left My Car Runnin.
