new Various — Cave Of Clear Light – The Pye & Dawn Records Underground Trip 1967 to 1975 (3CD set) ... CD
Pye/Esoteric (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy 3CD .... $26.99 Out Of Stock
A cornucopia of wigged out grooves from the Pye & Dawn vaults – late 60s & early 70s psych, panoramic pop, and trippy prog from Donovan, The Bystanders, Blonde On Blonde, Status Quo, Atomic Rooster, Jonesy and many more on 3CDs! All of the tunes were released from 1967 to 1975, so you get a pretty heady mix of prime psychedelic pop era and later numbers that took that sense of adventure to harder grooving, or more complicated realms. Comes with a cool little booklet of notes, too. Nearly 50 tracks on 4CDs: "Season Of The Witch" and more by Donovan, "Paradise Flat" and "Someone's Learning" by Status Quo, "Ride With Captain Max" by Blonde On Blonde, "It Is As It Must Be" by Man, "I Put A Spell On You" by Demon Fuzz, "Decision" by Fruup, "No Alternative" by Jonesy, "Hard Labour" by Noir and many more.

new Labi Siffre — Crying, Laughing, Loving, Lying ... LP
Pye (UK), 1972. Used Gatefold .... $34.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Spare genius from the legendary Labi Siffre – a record without categorization, and one that sits beautifully between soul, folk, and singer-songwriter styles of the early 70s! The record balances perfectly between simple tunes that just feature voice and guitar, and more complicated ones that use subtle strings, electric keys, and other orchestrations behind Labi's vocals – never too much, but just enough to give the tunes a hipper, sometimes slightly more grooving feel – in a mode that's somewhere in the territory of Terry Callier from the time, but very much its own sound altogether! This one's incredibly hard to peg – but well worth seeking out, and a tremendous bit of work from an artist who's unfortunately mostly remember these days for just a few famous break tracks – and not his sublime sense of songwriting! Titles include "Love Oh Love Oh Love", "Crying Laughing Loving Lying", "My Song", "Hotel Room Song", "Blue Lady", "Gimme Some More", and "It Must Be Love".
(Heavy original pressing.)
Also available: Crying, Laughing, Loving, Lying (with bonus tracks) ... CD $9.99

new Les McCann — Invitation To Openness ... CD
Atlantic/Water, 1972. Used .... $18.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Wild electric work from Les – and a real break from his work of the 60s! Side one of the album features a 26 minute fusion jam called "The Lovers" – filled with lots of breaks, grooves, and time changes – and played by a hip ensemble that includes Yusef Lateef, Cornell Dupree, Bernard Purdie, and Alphonze Mouzon. Side two features two long electric piano groovers – a remake of Les' classic "Beaux J Poo Poo" and a similar "Poo Pye McGoochie", both with the kind of choppy funky grooves Les laid down with Eddie Harris a few years prior.
(Out of print.)

new Trifle — First Meeting (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Dawn/Esoteric (UK), 1970. New Copy .... $15.99 Out Of Stock
Early jazz rock from Trifle – released on Pye/Dawn at the dawn of the 70s – great stuff that should of made these bigger! This is the only record by the group we've ever seen, and it's a shame, because is a worthy discover. The group lays horns over groove rock as well as others that became superstars, and once they hit the groove it's impeccable! Sweet stuff with great drums & percussion and keyboards, too. Titles include "Alibi Annie", "Home Again", "One Way Glass", "Is It Loud?", "Candle Light", "Devil Comin'" and more. 2 bonus tracks: "Dirty Old Town" and a single version of the album track "Old Fashioned Prayer Meeting".
