Sweetly funky and very slinky – this is one of the best early 70s scores by the great Italian composer Piero Umiliani! The record has lots of bubbling electric piano, rumbling electric basslines, warm acoustic percussion, and moody wordless vocals. At some level, the album sounds a lot like the contemporaneous work by the great Italian Fender Rhodes combo Crossfire – but it's also filled with a spacey madness that could only come from the pen of Umiliani! One of the best of the recent Easy Tempo reissues – and very nicely put together, with a consistent sound throughout! Nice reissue of this rare one by one of our most popular Italian composers! The soundtrack's from an erotic film starring sex-goddess Zeudi Araya, but despite the kinky origins of the material, the music's actually got a lot more sophistication than you'd expect – and the score feels more like a Morricone cerebral one than a cheesy sexy one. There's lots of spooky instrumentation, dark string passages, and haunting piano or basslines. A few tracks are funky, but the real strength of this one is the dark moodiness, laid down by off-beat orchestral passages and tight electric solos. 26 cuts in all, with a very sexy package!

A hip set of swinging urban tunes – recorded by Piero Umiliani in 1976, in a mode that recalls American "urban" jazz tributes from the 50s and 60s. The difference with this one is that it's got a bit of a 70s sound – with some slight electric instrumentation, and washes of sound that feel a bit like they were lifted from a Lalo Schifrin soundtrack, an influence that's more than ok in our book! The work is quite different than some of Umiliani's mad 60s work – but no less great, and a welcome addition to his rich catalog of work. Titles include "The Man & The City", "Friendly City", "Hectic City", "Viaducts", "Uptown", "City Sounds", "Power Stations", and "Siena Square".

Sounds sleepy – but it's totally groovy!! The mad talents of Italian soundtrack genius Piero Umiliani are turned towards his love of Duke Ellington – and the result is an incredibly groovy batch of tracks that mix up jazz, electronics, and plenty of great keyboards! The bulk of the material on the set was recorded in 1974 – and it features Umiliani playign moog and ARP, in a strange sort of "tribute" to Ellington that takes the usual Duke tunes, and turns them into hard grooving little numbers, with lots of bubbling electronic bits and weird sound effects. The first cut on the set is a mad mad version of "Caravan" which leaps and churns all over the place, sounding funkier than you could ever imagine! As the set progresses, some of the tracks are more traditionally jazz-based, but everything is played by a larger group, and the groove is still pretty darn excellent! Titles include "Ode To Duke Ellington", "Solitude", "Dreaming Of Duke", "Jeep's Blues", and "Never Together".

A rare spaghetti western score from Piero Umiliani – an Italian composer we usually know best for bossa or more jazz-oriented scores, but who sounds right at home in this genre too! The album's got a sound that really shows the full range of Umiliani's talents – a few western-styled numbers with guitar in the lead, but also a number of different styles too – quieter moments that are cool variations on the main theme – played with either organ, saxophone, or harpsichord – recorded with some cool changes and a great sense of play throughout. The CD features 12 tracks from the film's score – plus the vocal number "Roy Colt", which is sung by the group Free Love, and originally only issued on a 45!

One of the greatest soundtracks we've ever heard from Piero Umiliani – an incredibly groovy record from the very first note! The score's got a fantastic mix of groovy scoring, jazzy bits, and cool little vocals – spare organ lines that set the tune on most numbers, stepping basslines to set the rhythms, and scatting lyrics from I Cantori Moderni – a group who make the act of counting to 5 sound incredibly cool! The feel is quite similar to Umiliani's sublime Sweden Heaven & Hell soundtrack (and at one point, you even can hear the guy with the funny voice from "Mah Na Mah Na") – and the music is exactly the kind of wonderful stuff that first got us digging Italian film scores so many years ago. This great reissue adds a bunch of previously unreleased tracks to the original – a whopping 34 tracks in all – 14 from the original album, plus 3 stereo bonus cuts, and another 17 mono tunes. Titles include a few versions of the main theme, plus "Titoli Coda", "Luna Di Piero Agosto", "Bambola Omicida", "Interludio Azzurro", "Cinque Bambole", and "Danza Jazz Moon".

Wonderful work from one of the grooviest soundtrack composers ever! Very tight batch of crime jazz tracks composed by the great Piero Umiliani for this lost Klaus Kinski thriller. The material is played by some of Italy's best jazz players, and the tracks have nice sax solos, brassy riffs, organ lines, and even some cool flute and vibes. The reissue's got 17 tracks in all, with a motherlode of stuff that wasn't on the original soundtrack LP, and which all sounds great. If you dig jazz thriller soundtracks, this is one of the best we've heard, and the whole thing's put together with the usual high quality you'd expect from Easy Tempo. Tracks include "Apertura In Jazz", "Tema Dell'Addio", "Very Fast", and "Swing Come Sempre".

An amazing set of modern jazz – penned by Italian film composer Piero Umiliani, but also played by a very hip group headed by a young Gato Barbieri! Although Gato's probably best known for his late 60s appearances on the American scene, and his 70s dates for Impulse and Flying Dutchman – his earlier work in Italy is all pretty darn great, and this set shows the budding modernist to be in very strong company with a lineup that includes Enrico Rava on trumpet and Franco D'Andrea on piano, plus bass and drums. Side one of the record features full orchestrations by Umiliani – still plenty jazzy, with some great horn passages and cool use of vibes. Then side two features Umiliani's music played by the small group with Gato in the lead – a really great mix of modes that make the soundtrack a real standout, both in the Italian jazz and film scenes of the 60s. A much-needed look at one of the hippest Italian labels ever – the legendary Horo Records, home to some of the most groundbreaking jazz in Europe during the 70s! A really crazy little book – one that's filled with sexy images from Italian comedies of the 60s and 70s – and packaged with a special CD to match! The book itself is practically softcore porn (so be aware of that, you sensitive viewers!) – 326 full color pages with images from the films, most of which feature ladies in some state of undress. The production quality is quite high – almost at an art book level – so you might be able to justify this one as "art", even though it really contains very little information on the films – just lots of naughty pictures. But the CD's also pretty great too – and features 20 classic sex comedy themes that include "Sessomatto" by Armando Trovajoli, "Isola Tuttofare" by Piero Umiliani, "Fail Piano Fai Presto" by Gianni Ferrio, "Quel Gran Pezzo Dell'Ubalda" by Bruno Nicolai, "Curiosita Infantili" by Fred Bongusto, "Vieni Avanti Cretino" by Lino Fanfi, and "Rio 70" by Nylon.

I Cantori Moderni never really made any records on their own, but they were a key part of soundtrack work by some of the best Italian composers of their generation – including Ennio Morricone, Armando Trovajoli, Bruno Nicolai, Piero Umiliani, and Luis Bacalov – all of whom were lucky enough to have the group work on their music!
