One of the best things to ever happen to The Persuaders – a wonderfully rich album that has the group still sparkling strongly, long after their early hits! The harmonies are wonderful – very much on par with the bigger names at Philly International at the time – and recorded with sweet Sigma Sound production, and arrangements by Tony (not Thom) Bell that are a perfect blend of sweet and soulful – strings at some points, but a bassy bottom at others – so that the group manage to hit some even more righteous moments than before. Tunes are great, too – with some killer originals by Phil Hurtt – and the whole set's a no-filler gem that's kept us coming back for years! Titles include "Some Guys Have All The Luck", "Hold On (Just A Little Bit Longer)", "All Strung Out On You", "Stay With Me", "That's The Way She Is", and "We're Just Trying To Make It".

A landmark album – one of the greatest harmony soul albums of the early 70s! The title cut is one you'll know instantly – as "Thin Line Between Love & Hate" is one of those soul classics that never gets old – and the rest of the album's equally great, with a sublime mix of rough and sweet that the group was never able to duplicate again. The sound is incredible – with arrangements by Richard Poindexter, and backings by the group Young Gifted & Bad, who often use a bit of vibes behind the vocals, which makes for a really cool sound! A tremendous follow up to the first Spirit Of Philadelphia collection – released many years after that seminal set, and with an even farther-reaching selection of music! The first Spirit set focused on the best mellow and midtempo soul efforts of the Philly International label – but this one expands the groove even more to show the wide influence that Gamble & Huff had on the sound of Philly soul on other labels – especially the major labels, who'd begun following the indie lead in their productions by the mid 70s. The work of these cats often backed bigger names in film and TV – James Bond, The Avengers, Dave Allen, and others – but this set digs even deeper, to uncover a host of great instrumental moments that go way beyond famous movie themes – a wealth of excellent cuts from the late 50s through the late 70s – starting with exotic jazz modes, moving into 60s mod swingers, and including a fair bit of 70s electric funk as well! During the late 60s and early 70s, the Brunswick label was one of the greatest soul outfits working in Chicago. And of all the great contributions made by the label, perhaps the best was their great run of male soul singers – culled from Chicago's rich scene at the time, and featuring a mix of the city's harder and classier soul styles.
