goes country? Not exactly – as the work here fits very well within the best later sides by the magical Como
– but the music does have a special sort of Nashville flair, thanks to sublime production from Chet Atkins! Atkins and RCA had a really unique approach for recordings in Music City – a way of isolating instruments and voices, and creating a sense of compression in the studio that was years ahead of its time – and which turns out to work perfectly for Perry
's pillowy-soft approach never had it so good – and with Atkins' touches here, he gets a cool kind of 70s mellow sound throughout – almost into Singers Unlimited sort of territory, especially when additional singers join in. The CD features 23 tracks in all – the full album Just Out Of Reach, plus other outtakes, singles, and even a few Spanish-language tracks too – all produced by Chet, with titles that include "Yellow Beach Umbrella", "Let's Do It Again", "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye", "The Grass Keeps Right On Growin", "Take Me Home", "It Was Such A Good Day", and "Walk Right Back".
