People's ChoiceI Likes To Do It – Funkadelphia Vol 1 ... CD
Jamie, Late 60s. New Copy .... $13.99 15.98
Funky Philly! People's Choice were a group who later went onto smooth soul fame at Philly International – but during their early years, they were a great little funky group who recorded some tasty singles for the Phil-LA of Soul label. Their funky 45s are some of the most quickly sold from our bins – and they've never had a full LP of material from this period, which makes the CD even more valuable! The general groove is sort of a stop-start chugging funky one – with strong male vocals in the lead, and crashing bass, piano, and guitar riffs in the background. The CD takes 8 tracks from rare singles – including "I Likes To Do It", "Big Ladies Man", "Wootie-T-Woo", "Let Me Do My Thing", and "Oh How I Love It" – and adds in 6 tracks never issued before – including "Grunt", "When You're All Alone", "Nothing But Soul Food", "La Papala", and "Jo".

Gene Ammons & Sonny Stitt — You Talk That Talk! ... LP
Prestige, Early 70s. Very Good .... $4.99
These two tenor giants meet in the period slightly before Ammons death, and they're grouped with some of the younger funky players on Prestige, like Leon Spencer, Idris Muhammad, and George Freeman. The sound is fairly traditional, but there's some nice funky moments. Tracks include "Out Of It", which was written by Harold Vick, "The People's Choice", written by Harold Ousley, and the title cut, which is a Leon Spencer original.
(Cover has a promo stamp, some ring & edge wear, and a small stain on the back.)

new Various — Philadelphia International Classics – The Tom Moulton Remixes (4CD set) ... CD
Philadelphia International/Harmless (UK), 1970s. New Copy 4CD .... $28.99
Massive mixes from the mighty Tom Moulton – a huge 4CD package that not only includes some classic lost and rare mixes from the 70s, but also a whopping 17 previously unreleased Moulton mixes, appearing here for the first time ever! If there's anyone who's ever been well-suited to reworking a Philly groove, it's Tom – given his long standing association with the soul scene in the City Of Brotherly Love – and his crucial role in pushing soul tracks into the clubs during the 70s. As with most of Tom's best work, the mixes here are richly faithful to the originals – and never try to overstate themselves at all, just focus on the best elements, and bring them to the forefront of the groove! 4CDs, 31 tracks, and Moulton remixes of "Back Stabbers" by The O'Jays, "Dirty Ol Man" by Three Degrees, "Trusting Heart" by The Trammps, "Do It Any Way You Wanna" by People's Choice, "Nights Over Egypt" by The Jones Girls, "I Don't Love You Anymore" by Teddy Pendergrass, "Year Of Decision" by Three Degrees, "Slow Motion" by Johnny Williams, "The Love I Lost" by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, "She's A Winner" by The Intruders, "Trammps Disco Theme/Zing Went The Strings" by The Trammps, "Let's Groove" by Archie Bell & The Drells, "The Devil Made Me Do It" by Robert Upchurch, "Love Is The Message" by MFSB, "Party Time Man" by The Futures, and "See You When I Get There" by Lou Rawls.

new Terri Wells — Just Like Dreamin ... LP
Philly World, 1984. Used .... $9.99 Out Of Stock
Modern Philly soul from Terri Wells – a really great set that's right in the best mode of the city's sweet 80s groove scene! Terri previously sang with Dexter Wansel, and in the group People's Choice – but she's got more than enough power to hold the focus on her own – a nicely balanced vocal approach that fits in well with the midtempo and mellow 80s structure of the tunes! Although an indie set, the production is right up there with top mainstream soul – and titles include "Who's That Stranger", "Just Like Dreamin", "I'm Givin All My Love", "Falling Leaves", "Can't Stop", and "I Already Know".
(Cover has a small stain in one corner.)
