Various — Northern Soul Of Jewel-Paula-Ronn ... CD
Outta Sight (UK), 1960s. New Copy .... $16.99
Uptempo soul from Jewel, Paula and Ronin labels – the Shreveport, LA base of Stan Lewis – record store and label opener, distributor, and all around behind-the-scenes wizard of the 60s & 70s independent soul scene! The singles are wonderful throughout, bridging the mid 60s to the 70s very nicely – with tracks by Billy Joe Young, The Objectives, Cliff Wagner, Peppermint Harris, Montclairs, Barbara West, Jay Jay Taylor and many more. The liner notes have a reprint of a cool vintage feature on Stan's empire from Billboard in 1973 – and the titles include "Got You On My Mind" by Billy Joe Young, "I'm Waiting" by Bill Bush, "Love Went Away" by The Objectives, "Wait Until It Happens To You" by Peppermint Harris, "Not Too Long Ago" by The Uniques feat Joe Stampley, "I'm A Fool For You Baby" by Barbara West, "Fight Fire With Fire" by Shay Holiday, "Hung Up On Your Love" by Montclairs, "Sugar Coated Words" by Miki Honeycutt, "I'm Not Tired Yet" by Jay Jay Taylor and more.

new Paula Castle — Lost Love ... CD
Bethlehem/Solid (Japan), 1955. New Copy .... $15.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the few albums ever cut by 50s singer Paula Castle – a really great vocalist with a sound that matches the best Bethlehem records work of her labelmate, Chris Connor! Castle's got a nicely-composed approach to singing – never too flowery or overdone, yet also never too cool, either – a perfect balance that comes through beautifully with the set's stripped-down backings – just a quartet with Ronnie Selbey on piano, and flute by Sam Most. Most's flute really shades in the tunes nicely – underscoring things with some subtle blue tones that are really great – and titles include "I'm Shooting High", "Yesterday's Gardenias", "Here I Am In Love Again", and "Lost Love".

new Various — Jewel/Paula/Ronn Blues Story ... CD
Jewel/Fuel 2000, 1960s/1970s. New Copy 2 CDs .... $16.99 17.98 Temporarily Out Of Stock
A nice collection of the blusier groovers on Jewel and Paula – from the mid 60s and on through the 70s – with underappreciated gems from stars like Bobby Rush, Fontella Bass, Lightnin' Hopkins and Lowell Fulsom, plus equally strong singles by The Carter Brothers, Peppermint Harris, Brenda George, Wild Child Butler, Jimmy Preacher Ellis, Teddy Taylor and many more! Label founder Stan Lewis's roots are in Shreveport, LA, but the genesis of his Jewel label – and the later Paula and Ronn imprints – are inspired by Chicago's Chess Records empire. So there's more of an amplified Chicago sound on a good deal of the material – with touches of contemporary soul and R&B. Nice! 36 tracks on 2CDs: "Southern Country Boy" by The Carter Brothers, "You Love Me Pretty Baby" by Banny Price, "Homogenized Love" by Jerry McCain, "Move On" by Curtis Griffin, "My Back Scrather" by Frank Frost, "Count The Days I'm Gone" by Ray Agee, "Back Door Friend" by Lightnin Hopkins, "Put It All In There" by Wild Child Butler", "True Love" by Al Prince, "Sleeper" by Lowell Fulsom, "Go On And Help Yourself' by Albert Washington, "Food Stamp Blues Pt. 1" by Eddie Lang, "Stoop Down Baby" by Cash McCall, "Home Wrecker" by Fontella Bass and more.

new Paula Morelenbaum & Joao Donato — Agua ... CD
Biscoito Fino (Brazil), 2010. New Copy .... $29.99 Out Of Stock
We've always loved the music of Paula Morelenbaum, but this time around she's really got something special going on – thanks to keyboards and vocals from the legendary Joao Donato! Most of the tunes in the set are Donato numbers – themselves already a treat, but given a little something extra when handled by the master – as Donato's playing both electric and acoustic piano on the set! But maybe even more special are Joao's wonderful vocals – heartfelt and nicely wizened with age – making for a warm contrast to the more youthful modes of Paula. The arrangements are in that perfect Donato mode – light and lively, but never too wispy – and titles include "A Ra", "Cafe Com Pao", "A Paz", "Tudo Tem", "Entre Amigos", "Mentiras", "Ahie", and "Lugar Comum".

new Various — Best Of Jewel/Paula Jazz Classics ... CD
Paula/P-Vine (Japan), Early 70s. New Copy .... $29.99 Out Of Stock
The funky side of the Jewel & Paula labels – surprisingly jazzy work for a company that's best known for its blues recordings! Most of the tracks here come from a creative early 70s stretch for the label – and there's a number of cuts that show a strong connection with the AACM and Chicago undergrounds of the time – mixed with other tracks that show more of the southern roots that you might normally expect from Jewel/Paula. Electric and acoustic sounds mix together wonderfully in the track selection for the package – and titles include "Just A Feelin" by Ronnie Kole, "Chi Congo" by Art Ensemble Of Chicago, "Tropical" by African Music Machine, "L&T" by Tony Valor Orchestra, "Ode To Billie Joe" by Ronnie Kole, "First Thing In The Morning" by James Moody, "I Love Every Little Thing About You" by Odell Brown, "Toussaint Shuffle" by Toussaint McCall, "Got To Get Over" by Sonny Stitt, "One For Bud" by Mal Waldron, and "Great Stone Bottle" by Ronnie Kole.

Art Ensemble Of Chicago — Chi-Congo (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Paula/P-Vine (Japan), 1973. New Copy .... $29.99
A lost chapter in the career of the Art Ensemble Of Chicago – an obscure early 70s album, issued by the mostly-blues Paula Records label in Louisiana, and one of the hardest to find albums in their catalog! The album features 3 long tracks – "Chi-Congo", "Enlorfe", and "Hippparippp" – played in an open and inventive style that recalls the best of the group's work in Paris at the end of the 60s. The core group of Lester Bowie, Malachi Favors, Roscoe Mitchell, Joseph Jarman, and Don Moye manage to get their hands on more instruments than you'd hear from the entire percussion section of an orchestra – and with amazing results!

Fontella Bass — Free ... LP
Paula, 1972. New Copy (reissue).... $9.99
Very righteous work from Fontella Bass – an album done after her time at Chess Records, and after her work in Paris with the Art Ensemble Of Chicago – in a heartfelt, southern soul mode that's totally great! Fontella's back working with producer Oliver Sain, who first brought her fame back in the 60s – but the sound is a bit more sophisticated than before, drenched with roots from gospel and country soul, but also inflected with some of the more righteous modes of the early 70s too. Fontella's vocals are incredible – with a range that should have made her one of the leading ladies of soul in the 70s – and titles include "To Be Free", "I Need Love", "Wiping Tears", "Hold On this Time", "Talking About Freedom", and "My God My Freedom My Home".

new Odell Brown — Odell Brown (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Paula/P-Vine (Japan), 1974. New Copy .... $28.99
A wonderful album by Odell Brown – recorded years after he broke up with his Organizers group, with a sweet electric groove that's very different than his Chess LPs – and also quite a bit different from other records on Paula in the mid 70s! Odell's playing electric piano on the set – grooving in a mellow funky way that reminds us of some of the early 70s Young-Holt albums, no surprise, since Odell and the Young-Holt team came out of the same scene. The tracks are nice and long, and nearly all originals. It kicks off a killer cover, though: an 11 minute jazzy soul take on Stevie Wonder's "I Love Every Little Thing About You" – and it also includes "South of 63rd", "Simizzoke", "Song Theme" and "Tasha".

Ronnie Kole — New Orleans Today ... LP
Paula, Late 60s. Very Good .... $4.99
One of the greatest albums ever from pianist Ronnie Kole – a hip cat who played heavily on the New Orleans scene of the 60s and 70s – but who also had a soulful sound that was much more in keeping with piano work from the Windy City! This set has a nice crackle from the start – and although some of the cuts are ballads, Ronnie still brings in this gentle swing that's mighty nice – a bit in the way that Ramsey Lewis or Ahmad Jamal might have handled the cuts for Chess Records in the mid 60s – with a similarly hip approach to soul jazz. Some cuts feature a bit of added instrumentation from arranger Charlie Brent – and titles include the sweet "Great Stone Bottle", which has a nice break and some organ in the background – plus "Love Story", "Close to You", "Secret of My Soul", "My Sweet Lord", "He Ain't Heavy", and a groovy cover of "Sesame Street"!
(Side 2 has a mark that clicks on track six. Cover has a cutout hole, a spot of tape with a rip on the spine, and a small sticker on the back. Label has a small sticker.)

Ronnie Kole — New Orleans' Newest Sound (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Paula/P-Vine (Japan), Early 70s. New Copy .... $29.99
Killer piano from Ronnie Kole – a set with loads of cool soul jazz touches throughout! The core of the album's based around Ronnie's trio – with some excellent hard-handed work from Kole that's right up there with Ray Bryant in the 60s – but it also features great arrangements from John Bergeron and Charlie Brent, both of whom bring in horns and inventive rhythms to really push things over the top! The set crackles like some hip Argo/Cadet set from the Chicago scene – hardly the New Orleans jazz you'd guess from the title – and the set's got groovy takes on "Aquarius" and "Spinning Wheel" – plus nice originals "God Bless Bu-Butz", "Just A Feelin", "Happy Is Love", and "Lonely Waltz".

Ronnie Kole — Ronnie Kole Plays For You Alone (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Paula/P-Vine (Japan), Late 60s. New Copy .... $26.99
The greatest session ever recorded by pianist Ronnie Kole – recorded for the Louisiana label Paula, but with all the feel of a Chess/Cadet session from the late 60s! All of this is no surprise, since Ronnie himself was an ex-Chicagoan, living in New Orleans – and the album's arrangements are handled by Richard Evans, the man responsible for some of the best work at Chess in the 60s. The set's very much in the vein of the Ray Bryant and Ramsey Lewis albums for Cadet that were handled by Evans – with hard left-hand piano in the front, and some bouncing arrangements in the back to give the set a nice syncopated kick! Includes a great version of Evans' "Leija", plus the tracks "RK's Boogie", "Slaughter On 10th Ave", "Sabre Dance", "Dark Eyes", and a great cover of "Ode To Billie Joe".

Bobby Patterson — It's Just A Matter Of Time (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Paula/P-Vine (Japan), 1972. New Copy .... $28.99
One of the best soul records to come out on the Paula label in the early 70s – one with a number of beautifully soulful moments – and a few surprisingly funky ones, too! Although Bobby did a lot of work for other singers, this is one of the few albums he actually cut under his own name – and it's a lasting testament to his talents as both a singer and writer. It's got a nice mix of southern soul ballads and more uptempo tracks, and loads of original compositions by Bobby! Includes "This Whole Funky World is a Ghetto", "If You Took A Survey", How Do You Spell Love", "Make Sure You Can Handle It", "I Just Loved You Because I Wanted To", "Right On Jody", "Quiet! Do Not Disturb", and "I Get My Groove From You". 7 bonus tracks on the CD edition: "She Don't Have To See You (To See Through You)", "It Takes Two To Do Wrong", "Take Time To Know The Truth", "I Get My Groove From You", "I'm In The Wrong" and more.

Bobby Patterson — Texas Soulman Extraordinaire ... CD
Paula/Harmless (UK), 1972. New Copy .... $9.99
Funky soul from Bobby Patterson – a smoking set of music that's easily some of the funkiest ever cut for the Paula label in the 70s! Bobby's a southern soul singer, but he's got a righteousness that feels much more Detroit or Chicago – and some of the best cuts here have this sharp, funky undercurrent that's not unlike work by Joe Quarterman – a wicked bottom groove that's definitely inherited from James Brown, and which really helps underscore the badass quality of Bobby's music! The set's a wonderful way to start digging Patterson at the height of his career – and the package includes 17 tracks, with "This Whole Funky World Is A Ghetto", "Right On Jody", "If You Took A Survey", "It Takes Two To Do Wrong", "How Do You Spell Love", "Quiet Do Not Disturb", "I Just Loved You Because I Wanted To", and "I'm In The Wrong".

Redd Holt Unlimited — Isaac, Isaac, Isaac ... LP
Paula, 1974. New Copy (reissue).... $9.99
An excellent album by Isaac Redd Holt – one half of the incredible Young-Holt rhythm team, bursting out nicely here on his own! This is Redd's second album – first for Paula, as the other one was a jazz effort on Argo back in the 60s – and it's a wild blend of jazz, funk, and a lot of other weird sounds. The introduction's totally cool, and features Redd running through a list of hip little clubs in American cities, then the album launches into the great "Listen to the Drums", which has a tight pounding groove, and moves on to a whole bunch of other jazzy cuts like "Flo", "Slow Funk", and "Let the Spirit In". Redd sings a bit, which isn't too bad (mostly), but it's the grooves that will keep you coming back. Very much in the spirit of Roy Porter's legendary funk albums – but probably a bit tighter!

new Redd Holt Unlimited — Other Side Of The Moon ... LP
Paula, 1975. New Copy (reissue).... $9.99
This was Redd's second album after the breakup of the Young-Holt team – and it's also the tightest. The best cuts have this hard funk sound that features tightly stepping drums by Redd, and a classic choppy groove that's best summed up in the cut "Do It Baby", a favorite with hip hoppers back in the 80s, with a classic sample riff that you'll recognize instantly. Other nice short funky numbers include "Gimme Some Mo" and "I Shot The Sherrif" – and the album also features some nice spacey jazz numbers, like "Tica Chita", "Beware Little Girls of The Cannibals", and "Rhu". Wild and crazy – with a mad mad mix of breaks, grooves, and off-kilter drum action!

Sonny Stitt — Soul Girl (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Paula/P-Vine (Japan), 1973. New Copy .... $28.99
An oft-overlooked, but very nice record from Sonny Stitt – recorded in Chicago in the early 70s, and with two different types of groups that show off both sides of the city's jazz scene at the time! On the first 4 numbers, the group is a bit on the larger side – giving the material a nice Cadet Studios touch to it – with Richard Evans on bass, Morris Jennings on drums, Tennyson Stephens on piano, a bit of strings, and vocalizing by Kitty Hayward. The remaining tracks are done in a smaller setting – and they feature a rare appearance by Muhal Richard Abrams on piano, who plays straight stuff here – in a quartet with Wilbur Campell and Cleveland Eaton. A rare record from Sonny – but it's an entirely worthy one! Includes "Got To Get Over", "Soul Girl", "Jeep Blues" and "I Know That You Know" with the larger group, plus the quartet pieces "I Should Care", "Eight Track Blues" and "Gone With The Wind".

Mal Waldron — Mal Waldron On Steinway (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Paula/P-Vine (Japan), 1973. New Copy .... $29.99
A beautiful little solo session from the late Mal Waldron – recorded in Paris in 1972, and featuring (as you'd guess from the title) Mal stretching out wonderfully on a well-tuned Steinway! The mood of the set is softer and more introspective than some of Waldron's other work from the time – no less inventive, but with a quality that's warmly lyrical and extremely tuneful throughout – a great demonstration of Waldron's growing confidence as a solo artist at the time – yet expressed with a thoughtfulness that makes the album one of his real standouts in this mode. Tracks are all originals – and titles include "Paris Reunited", "For Eric Satie", "One For Bud", and "Portrait Of A Bullfighter".

Young-Holt Unlimited — Young-Holt Unlimited Plays Super Fly ... LP
Paula, 1973. New Copy (reissue).... $9.99
Fantastic! Young and Holt lay down a monster set of grooves from Curtis Mayfield's Superfly soundtrack (all the good ones – like "Freddie's Dead", "Give Me Your Love", "Pusher Man", and "Superfly"), and they also get into some funky tracks of their own (like "Hey Pancho" and "Mystical Man"), and do a super-dope cover of "People Make the World Go Round". The album's nice and stripped down – perhaps closest to their Oh Girl LP on Atlantic in feel, with loads of cool electric piano by Ken Chaney, laid out over the group's harder funky grooves! One of their rarest in the original, too – and an essential bit of early G-funk!

new Montclairs — Dreaming Out Of Season (Japanese paper sleeve edition – with bonus tracks) ... CD
Paula/P-Vine (Japan), 1972. New Copy .... $28.99 Just Sold Out!
Harmony soul heaven – and the only full album from The Montclairs! The group were a sublime vocal group from the 70s – one with a sound to rival The Whatnauts or The Moments, but which also had a bit more of the super-dope touches you'd expect from their look on the cover of the record – a bit like Soul Generation at their best! The sound is sweet, but with an edge – and a young Phil Perry wrote most of the tracks on the record, with a really unique feel that goes beyond simple cliches from the better-known groups of the genre. Oliver Sain produced, and although the record came out on Jewel, it's got much more of a New Jersey feel than other work on the label. Titles include "Dreaming's Out Of Season", "Grand Finale", "Just Can't Get Away", "Prelude to a Heartbreak", "Do I Stand a Chance", and "Unwanted Love". CD features 9 more bonus tracks from singles – including "Make Up For Lost Time", "I Need You More Than Ever", "Hung Up On Your Love", "I'm Calling You", "Dawn Of My Life", "Out My Back Door", and "Ease The Pain".

new James Moody — Sax & Flute Man (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Paula/P-Vine (Japan), 1973. New Copy .... $28.99 Out Of Stock
A sweet set of electric funk from James Moody – and a great little record to match the grooves he was laying down at the Perception label in the early 70s – with a very unique sound! Moody's working here alongside some sweet work on electric piano by either Jodie Christian or Tennyson Stephens – and with some sly and soulful arrangements by Chicago soul maestro Richard Evans, who also plays bass on the record and gives it a style that's almost an extension of the later Cadet kind of groove. The album features an excellent funky instrumental version of " First Thing I Do In the Morning", originally a funky vocal 45 by Chicago singer Joyce Williams – and other cuts include "Trilby", "Don't Let Me Be Lonely", "World Is A Ghetto", "Good Sense Humor Man", and "Country City Country".

Frank Frost — Very Best Of Frank Frost ... CD
Ronn/Fuel 2000, Mid 60s. New Copy .... $9.99 11.98
Frank Frost really kicks it hard on this set of classic recordings from the 60s – a batch of tracks that easily show why Frost was one of the funkiest bluesmen to record for the Jewel/Paula label! Frank sings and plays harmonica – but an equal attraction here is the rhythms – which are often tight and vamping, and sometimes hard and heavy too – definitely more funk-based at points than the more common rolling blues of the time – although when Frost hits more standard modes, he's still pretty great too. Titles include "Harpin On It", "My Back Scratcher", "Never Leave Me At Home", "Janie On My Mind", "Ride With Your Daddy Tonight", "Five Long Years", "Pretty Baby", and "Harp & Soul".

Ivan Lins & SWR Big Band — Cornucopia ... CD
Sunnyside, 2013. New Copy .... $14.99 16.98
A sublime setting for the vocals of the great Ivan Lins – wrapped up here in some really inventive arrangements from the SWR Big Band, who bring an energy to the album we haven't heard from Lins in years! Ivan's vocals take on this soaring, fluid quality that reminds us why we first fell in love with his music so many years ago – a transcendent quality that's really let loose the more the band seems to energize their rhythms and horn charts – almost scatting at times, given the jazzy vibe of the whole record! Arranger Ralf Schmid really makes magic on the record – and the album also features work from Paula Morelenbaum on guest vocals, and a bit of vocals from a South African choir. Tracks include "Samba De Vision", "Missing Miles", "Guantanamineira", "Roda Baiana", "Trem Bom", and "Awa Yio".

Milton Nascimento & Wagner Tiso — Ensaio ... CD
Warner (Brazil), 1995. New Copy .... $22.99
A beautiful later appearance from Milton Nascimento – songs recorded for a TV performance in Brazil, and arguably better than any of his studio albums from the time! The setting is quite spare – Milton on guitar and vocals, and longtime partner Wagner Tiso playing a strongly resonant grand piano – with tones that ring out rapturously, and help elevate Nascimento to the soulful heights of his classic 70s recordings! We can honestly say that, although obscure, the record's essential stuff for any fan of Milton – especially during the early days – and the whole thing offers up a really unique way to hear his genius at work. Titles include "Novena", "Morro Veolho", "Clube Da Esquinha", "Caso De Amor", "Ponta De Areia", "Paula E Bebeto", "Cais", "Por Causa De Voce", and "Travessia".

Metro (UK), 1960s/1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s. New Copy 2CD .... $11.99
A sweet little collection that goes way beyond basic bossa nova – as it offers up tunes from a host of different vintages, in different styles of the genre – including some surprising gems from recent years too! Vintage material is blended nicely with cuts from Far Out and a few other current labels – and together, the tracks show the strong evolution of bossa nova into the 21st Century – way past the basic sounds at the start. There's a number of tracks on here we've never heard before – and titles include "The Girl From Ipanema" by Paula Santoro, "O Nosso Amor" by Vanja Orico, "Agua De Beber" by Xavier Osmir, "Meu Samba Torto" by Clara Moreno, "How Insensitive" by Simao Morto, "Rio Bahia" by Joyce, "Wave" by Victor Assis Brasil, "Mas Que Nada" by Rio Combo, "Dindi" by Paula Santoro with Hugh Burns, "So Danco Samba" by Gustavo Marques, and "Salve Dom" by Armando Marcal. 32 tracks on 2CDs – quite a deal!

new Roy Porter — Inner Feelings ... CD
Vistone/P-Vine (Japan), 1975. New Copy .... $28.99 Just Sold Out!
A crazy bit of funk from drummer Roy Porter – a player who first rose to fame during the LA bop years of the late 40s, but who sounds even hipper here in the 70s! The album's got a madly skittish approach to funk – one that's highly rhythmic, but often in unconventional ways – somewhat similar to Redd Holt's excellent albums for the Paula label. Roy plays drums, percussion, and sings a bit – and the grooves run from break-heavy instrumentals to even cooler numbers that bring in more of a sense of flow and soul – really opening things up beyond any simple 70s jazz funk cliches, and hitting some really wicked new territory! Instrumentation includes plenty of great horns, electric piano, guitar, and even a bit of Arp – all used in really inventive anc reative ways. Titles include the classic crate-digging favorites "Panama" and "Party Time", plus a vocal version of "Jessica", a cover of Jobim's "Waver-ing", and another nice original called "Funny Feelin'"! Tremendous stuff all the way through!

new Jackie Day — Dig It The Most – The Complete Jackie Day ... CD
Kent (UK), Late 60s. New Copy .... $15.99 Out Of Stock
The complete recordings of a great, overlooked lady of 60s LA soul – Jackie Day, who recorded a beautiful strong string of singles for Modern, Paula, Specialty and other labels – compiled here in this essential set from Kent UK! Jackie's voice is soaringly beautiful, and she's also the credited co-writer and many of these songs, with saxophonist and arranger Maxwell Davis – whose work here is also really great. Many of the numbers are upbeat, danceable mid-to-late 60s soul of the utmost quality – heavy drums, punchy brass, guitar grooves piano and sweet female backup vocals. Includes "Before It's Too Late", "Oh, What Heartaches", "Long As I Got My Baby", "Without A Love", "Step Aside", "Guilty", "What Happened', "Free At Last". "What Kind Of Man Are You?", "What's The Cost?", "Naughty Boy", "I Dig It The Most" and more. 20 tracks in all.

new Various — Beatles 69 Vol 3 – Abbey Road Revisited ... CD
Discobertas (Brazil), 2012. New Copy .... $15.99 Out Of Stock
The sound of The Beatles, completely re-imagined by a host of hip acts from Brazil – a stunning lineup that includes some under-discovered talents from the younger generation, plus a few key artists from earlier years as well! As you'd guess from the "69" in the title, most of the tracks here are from the final years of the group – a fair bit of material from Abbey Road – opened up and given a whole new sort of energy here – showing the rich inspiration the fab four were still able to provide, even at the end! Beatles music has been a crucial influence on Brazil, from the 60s Jovem Guarda and Tropicalia scenes onward – and the work here really shows the range of influences, extrapolated through really creative instrumentation, vocal arrangements, and production techniques. The whole thing's hardly another "tribute to" session – and instead is more like an extended poem inspired by the work of John, Paul, George, and Ringo. Titles on this third volume include "Here Comes The Sun" by Joyce, "Something" by Flavio Venturini & Aggeu Marques, "Polythene Pam" by Autoramas, "The End" by Milton Nascimento, "Mean Mr Mustard" by Joao Donato with Paula Morelenbaum, "Because" by Aretha, "Golden Slumbers" by Elis Regina & Milton Nascimento, "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" by Pouca Vogal, and "Her Majesty" by Silvia Machete.

new Buster Benton — Very Best Of Buster Benton ... CD
Ronn/Fuel 2000, Late 70s. New Copy .... $10.99 11.98 Out Of Stock
One of the last great blues artists to record for the Jewel/Paula label – and a key figure in the Chicago underground as well! Buster Benton works here with a style that's definitely got the Chicago electric vibe of the 70s – but which also echoes earlier, rootsier modes as well – often delivered with a style that's a lot earthier than most of the other blues work coming out at the time on bigger labels – exactly the kind of sound that kept Benton a club favorite back in the day. Titles include "Sweet 94", "Spider In My Stew", "Sorry", "Lonesome For A Dime", "Do It In The Rain", "Lean On Me", "Love Like I Wanna", "Born With The Blues", "Dangerous Woman", and "Money Is The Name Of The Game".

new Little Joe Blue — Very Best Of Little Joe Blue ... CD
Ronn/Fuel 2000, Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy .... $9.99 11.98 Out Of Stock
Great early work from Little Joe Blue – a wonderful set that shows all the strong promise and soulful power he had at the start! The package brings together formative sides cut by Blue for the Jewel/Paula label – tracks done after his initial Chess recordings, and which show this amazing vocal power all the way through – a way of reaching out and working the twists and turns of a lyric that few of his contemporaries could match! Production is nice and basic – the best you could hope for from the label at the time – and titles include "Peaceful Man", "Standing On The Threshold", "Don't Stop Loving Me", "Shakin Hands With The Judge", "Gonna Walk On", "Sometime Tomorrow", and "Little Joe Blue".
