New MastersoundsIntroduction To The New Mastersounds Vol 2 ... CD
Legere (Germany), 2000s. New Copy .... $10.99
There's almost no introduction needed to the New Mastersounds – given how much greatness the group has given us over the years – a perennial favorite here at Dusty Groove, both with customers and our own soundsystems as well! But even if you know these funky stalwarts, there's still plenty here to love – as the collection does a good job of bringing together some harder-to-find cuts – work the group has done with other artists over the past decade or so – and some singles and compilation tracks that are hard to find too – great stuff to track down if you missed the original releases! As usual, the guitar of Eddie Roberts smokes the grooves brilliantly – as does the organ, bass, and drums – and titles include "Kuna Matata", "Make Me Proud", "One Note Brown (original version)", "Can You Get It (rmx)", "I Mean It So", "King Comforter", "Talk The Talk", "Bring It On", "You Got It All", and "Wack".
Also available: Introduction To The New Mastersounds Vol 2 ... LP $18.99

new New MastersoundsNervous (orig, bonus beats) ... 7-inch
Kay Dee, 2003. New Copy .... $5.99
Great work from the British kings of the funky 45 – they turned out another doozy! "Nervous" grooves like a heavy duty funk track – drums kicking it up all over the place underneath, while guitar strings out the riff in a "I Know You Got Soul" mode, and horns blast over the top! And believe it or not, it's their version of an original track by Kenny Dope!

New MastersoundsOut On The Faultline ... CD
One Note (UK), 2012. New Copy .... $14.99
A great little title for this stone cooker – as The New Mastersounds play with enough raw funk energy, the could easily crack the coast of northern California! We've loved these guys for years – and they still blow us away with their razor-sharp energy – a mindblowing sense of perfection that's still deeply funky and very spontaneous – not slick or smooth, as musicians of this caliber could easily be – but delivered as a socking punch to the rest of the deep funk underground – as proof that if you've been playing together this long, you can rise to the top of the heap with an amazingly funky sound! The guitar of Eddie Roberts is sublime, the drums of Simon Allen are nice and heavy, and the organ of Joe Tatton really cooks the whole thing together – on tracks that include "You Mess Me Up", "Yo Mamma", "Mission Creep", "Ding A Ling", "Turncoat", "Make Up Your Mind", "Each To Their Own", and "Welcome To Nola".
Also available: Out On The Faultline ... LP $22.99

new New MastersoundsSan Frantico/Chocolate Chip ... 7-inch
One Note (UK), 2009. Used .... $3.99 Out Of Stock
Hard grooving organ funk from the New Mastersounds! "San Frantic" is an uptempo, frantically cooking number – ultra killer drums with the bass groove right there with it – with a nice guitar groove the takes it into a more playful, but no less feverish mode! The flip "Chocolate Chip" is a also gem, with a steamy jazz funk vibe – taken to the next level with some funky flute from guest Chip Wickham.

Kay Dee, 2006. New Copy .... $12.99 15.98 Out Of Stock
Kenny Dope and Keb Darge together – an amazing team that's already resulted in some incredible records! Both Kenny and Keb are well-known for their record-hounding skills – and they've turned that energy towards the incredible Kay-Dee label – home to killer 45s both old and new, and fast becoming one of the best sources for all things deep and funky! This tasty little set brings together some of the best work unearthed by the pair – some of it in Kenny Dope edits that firmly respect the structure of the original tunes, but bring up the funkiest elements that might have been slightly buried in the original studio mix. new Various — Keb Darge Presents Funk For The 21st Century ... CD
Do Right (Canada), 2002. New Copy .... $8.99 Out Of Stock
Think funk music has to be old to be good? Think again – as Keb Darge takes you on a tour of some of the best funk you'll ever find on one CD, and it's all by current groups! Nobody knows more about old funk than Keb – as his work as a DJ, collector, and compiler have been keeping the music alive for years. But Keb's also open minded enough to realize that there's a heck of a lot of new groups that have been inspired by the classic grooves of the late 60s and early 70s – and who share his love for totally authentic funky tracks that are perfect in every way, top to bottom with dirty, heavy, messed-up funk! The set brings together 14 recent tracks from the deep funk underground – killer cuts that were issued as rare 7" singles, plus a few previously unissued numbers, all with the sock-hard finish of classic work by James Brown or The Meters – and with the added bonus that these are groups that you could actually get up, go out, and see in a club! Tracks include the previously unissued tracks "Wait Up" by Speedometer and "The Badger" by Connie Price & The Keystones – plus "Texas Rumble" by The Imaginary Visions, "Forty First Street Breakdown" by Naomi Davis, "One Note Brown" by The New Mastersounds, "Got To Be The Way It Is" by Sharon Jones, "Who's The King" by Joseph Henry, "The Matador" by The Mighty Imperials, "GT" by The New Mastersounds, "Funky So & So" by The Sugarman Three, and "Blow Your Top (part 1)" by The Soul Destroyers.
