Ennio Morricone — Tepepa ... CD
Legend (Italy), 1968. New Copy .... $25.99
A lost western score from Ennio Morricone – directed with some nice musical flourishes by the great Bruno Nicolai! The work's got the feel of some of Morricone's more famous spaghetti western scores – with some great moody passages that hint at the offbeat instrumentation of his horror work, coupled with more driving action-related tunes that have a more driving feel overall – and together, these tunes weave a very visual tapestry of sound – possibly even more compelling than the actual film! Titles include "Viva La Revolucion", "Tepepa E Price", "A Meta Strada", "Una Povera Casa", "Consegna Delle Armi", and "Tradimento Secondo". New CD version features a whopping 28 tracks in all – over 70 minutes of music!

Ennio Morricone — Un Uomo A Meta/Ecce Homo I Sopravvissuti ... CD
Legend/GDM (Italy), 1966/1968. New Copy .... $24.99
Quite different than the usual soundtrack reissue of work from Ennio Morricone – in that the album actually features two long compositions – each from a different movie! The set begins with the beautiful "Requiem Per Un Destino" – a large suite for orchestra and chorus penned for the 1966 film Un Uomo A Meta – and done in a way that's very slow-building and dramatic – sounds that start out on the edges of darkness, then only increase their tension as the music moves on! Next is "Venuta Dal Mare", from the film Ecce Homo I Sopravvissuti – a really cool work for a small combo that features vibes, flute, harp, and percussion – plus wonderfully moody vocals from Edda Ell'Orso! Each track is quite long – and together, they offer up even more moving Morricone music than usual.

new Various — Atomic Cafe – Music From The Original Soundtrack, Plus Music Inspired By The Film ... CD
Stilton (Italy), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy .... $14.99 Out Of Stock
An excellent compilation of rare funky jazz tunes – issued here supposedly as a lost soundtrack, but really just a collection of tunes from other sources, all with a nice soundtrack-y jazz feel! There's a few familiar names here, but most of the material is from rare European and American indie jazz LPs, and sound library sources of late 60s/early 70s vintage, with a nice mix of electric and acoustic playing. Titles include "Troublemaker" by John Cameron, "Voodoo Love Dance" by Melvyn Price, "Do Whatever Sets You Free" by Gus Giordano, "Chili Mac" by Preston Love, "La Folla" by Solar Plexus, "A New Generation" by Oscar Brown Jr & Jean Pace, "Dancer" by Gregory Charles Royal, "Zazueira" by Meta Roos, and "Jody's Freeze" by James Reese & The Progressors.

Alessandro Alessandroni — Inchiesta (with bonus tracks) ... CD
CMT/Cometa (Italy), 1978. New Copy .... $28.99
A sweet funky set from the 70s – originally recorded as a sound library session, but handled by Italian soundtrack maestro Alessandro Alessandroni! You might know Alessandroni's music best from the 60s, and this set is a later updating of the same groove – one that brings in a bit more electric keyboards, some bouncier basslines, and drums that snap nice and hard on the funky numbers – then lay back on the sweet mellow moments. A few cuts have vocals – ala I Cantorni Moderni – and the whole thing has a warm, sexy 70s groove that's right up there with the best Italian work of the scene from the time. Titles include "Femminismo", "Collettivo", "La Metropoli", "Pubblica Informazione", "Prima Eta", and "Ultimo Soggiorno". Very groovy stuff! CD features 5 bonus tracks too – never issued before!

Brecker Brothers — Complete Arista Albums Collection (Brecker Brothers/Back To Back/Don't Stop The Music/Heavy Metal Be Bop/Détente/Straphangin'/Blue)(8CD set) ... CD
Sony/Arista, Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 8 CDs .... $59.99 69.98
Seminal work from The Brecker Brothers – 6 of the group's best albums, plus the two Blue Montreux live albums – packaged together in one very cool set, in tiny LP-like sleeves! The self-titled Brecker Brothers album is the first super effort from the team of Randy & Michael Brecker, whose twin-horn frontline forged a very popular sound in the mid 70s – some really well-crafted numbers, done with a strong smooth approach that still sits well after all these years! Back To Back features the twin horns of Randy & Michael Brecker, along with alto by David Sanborn, keyboards by Don Grolnick, and guitar by Steve Khan – but one of the things that really makes the album great is the vocal arrangements, which were handled by Luther Vandross, who also sung on the album along with Patti Austin. The set's got a great soulful feel – with some wonderful mellow groovers that have a sweet 70s sound! Don't Stop The Music is a stone classic from The Brecker Brothers – working with touches of club and disco grooves to give an even smoother edge to the jazz funk of the pair. And thanks to some solid soloing that's not afraid to go for the easy spots, the album's a lot more solid than an number of sound-a-like copycat LPs to come out at the time! Heavy Metal Be Bop is tight and funky jamming, with a bit more guitar here than on some of their other records – hence, possibly, the title! Keyboards and guitar jam strongly, but Randy and Michael still get in plenty of space for their solos – pushing their jazz licks with the jamming intensity that might normally be relegated to guitar heroes in the rock world. On Detente, the Brecker's are still rooted in jazz, but definitely step out with plenty of soul in the mix too – vocals from DJ Rogers, Carl Carlwell, Luther Vandross, and others – all of whom really add a lot to the set! On Straphangin, the BBs manage to groove with a sharpness and depth that most of their smoother fusion contemporaries just weren't hitting – an edge that reminds us of the deeper roots these guys had before they started hitting the mainstream! Last up are the live fusion classics Blue Montreux Vols 1 & 2 – both recorded as a unique live all-star outing by a group of Arista's best jazz players at the time! The group's an octet, but plays together in differing formations throughout the record – with Warren Bernhardt on keyboards, Michael Brecker on saxes, Randy Brecker on trumpet, Steve Jordan on drums, Steve Khan and Larry Coryell on guitars, Tony Levin on bass, and Mike Maineri on vibes – the last of which really make for some of the best numbers on the album!

Corinne Chatel — Metamorphoses ... CD
Futura (France), 2012. New Copy .... $14.99 16.99
Really beautiful vocal work from Corinne Chatel – spare tunes that mostly feature overdubbed vocal passages, sung wordlessly, often with a very musical feel – yet one that's quite offbeat too! There's a quality here that really reminds us of some of our favorite Meredith Monk work from years back – really imaginative, and never gimmicky at all – with an approach that's very abstract, yet somehow all makes complete sense too – logic that's all its own, yet really beautiful overall! Titles include "Call", "Les Sirenes", "Heartbeats", "Berceuse", "Angels Vocalizing", "Awakening The Goddess", and "South India".

Georges Delerue — House On Carroll Street ... CD
Music Box (France), 1987. New Copy .... $23.99
A great later score from Georges Delerue – wonderfully dark, with a sense of tension that comes through right from the very first note! Delerue's sometimes got a great way with beauty – but this time around, he really shows his darker side – working slow strings with very sharp edges, sounds that are never too atonal, but really have an offbeat feel! Although the instrumentation is overall in the more traditional Delerue orchestral mode, there's almost a 70s Italian feel at times – thanks to Georges' great use of space between the notes. Titles include "Elevators", "21 Club", "Piano Practise", "Break In", "The Bath", "Hide & Seek", "The Bookstore", and "The Cemetary".

Francesco DeMasi — L'Italia Vista Dal Cielo (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Cometa (Italy), 1967. New Copy .... $26.99
Italy from the sky, served up in a wonderful 60s soundtrack from Francesco DeMasi – a really unique record that moves past most of the familiar genres of the period! The cover looks a bit cartoony, but the music is much more serious overall – yet never try or boring, as you might expect from a travelogue film – and instead touches with these beautiful scene-setting elements that also have occasional moments of whimsy – and groovy enough sounds that there's no attempt at realism or localization in the music either. A really great discovery, and a real standout in the long career of DeMasi – with cuts that include "Nebbie Sulla Palude", "Altalena Party", "Nuvole Nel Cielo", "Filessi Nella Laguna", and "Little Bar". CD has 4 bonus tracks too!

Karl Hector & The Malcouns — Sahara Swing ... CD
Now Again, 2008. New Copy .... $12.99 14.98
One of the hippest albums from the funky empire that includes Poets Of Rhythm and The Whitefield Brothers – a set of Afro-exotic grooves that really blows our minds – and which opens the group up into whole new territory! There's echoes of Mulatu, Salah Ragab, and other older exotic funk artists in the mix – but as usual for the Poets, the whole thing's put together with a sharp edge of its own – a keen ear for catching the best elements of the original music, and distilling them down to a super-powerful essence – then re-presenting and oddly-producing them with some very unique sounds! Karl Hector joins the group on vocals and percussion – and other instrumentation includes ballaphon, metallophon, horns, and keyboards – all used in really enigmatic ways, and with other-worldly sounds that are simply amazing! Titles include "Followed Path", "When The Sun Breaks Through", "Sahara Swing", "Jabore (part 3)", "Debere", "Transition", "Mystical Brotherhood", "Toure Samar", and "Passau Run".

Os Mutantes — Fool Metal Jack ... CD
Krian, 2013. New Copy .... $10.99 11.98
Modern metal from Os Mutantes – a group who, we suppose, probably still have some of their old ironic stance somewhere in the mix – but who are also singing here in English, at a level that sounds a bit more like mainstream rock than we might expect! There's still a quality to the record that sets these guys apart from the rest, but the overall approach isn't nearly at the level we'd expect from their long legacy in music – or at least from the important early recordings that made us love them so much. Titles include "To Make It Beautiful", "Valse LSD", "Bangladesh", "Look Out", and "Time & Space".

Berto Pisano — Pierino Contro Tutti/Pierino Colpisce Ancora ... CD
Gemelli/Cometa (Italy), 1981/1982. New Copy .... $22.99
Plenty of peepin going on on the cover to this sweet set of soundtrack tunes – and the CD features some music that's as equally goofy as the images on the front! Music for both Pierino films is by the great Stelvio Cipriani – working here in a mode that's a bit more whimsical than some of his famous crime or erotic music of the 70s – but carried off in a similar style of well-balanced keyboards and larger orchestrations. Rhythms aren't so much funky as they are playful – and the CD features 24 tracks in all, and a few more sexy photos in the booklet!

The Rittor Music Japan Bible Of Extreme Metal – a discography book that covers brutal music in a beautiful way! The cover art is extremely metal – but the book actually covers more than just "extreme metal" – it spans the metal genre from it's origins to today – and in exhaustive detail! The text is mostly in Japanese, with the exception of the chapter titles, band names and album titles – but the appeal of the book is largely visual! It assembles the album cover art of key titles in a bunch of categories – including the precedent-setting early legends, the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Thrash, Black Metal, Doom Metal, Grindcore, Gothic Metal, Hardcore and more. Frank Rosaly — Cicada Music ... CD
Delmark, 2013. New Copy .... $11.99 15.99
The Delmark debut as a leader from drummer Frank Rosaly – and a very unique little record! Rosaly's a player we've really dug on other folks' records, and his vision here at the helm is pretty darn great – a real change from some of the modes used by his avant Chicago contemporaries – almost more poetic at points, although filled with sharp edges throughout! The record was composed for use in a documentary about Chicago scrap recyclers working the alley of the city – and Rosaly brings a really human, personal sort of feel to his music – even though the overall approach is still based on improvisation between group members too. The lineup features James Falzone on clarinet, Jason Stein on bass clarinet, Jason Roebke on bass and cracklebox, Keefe Jackson on tenor and bass clarinet, and Jason Adasiewicz on vibes – which adds some particularly great tones to the metallic narrative. Rosaly also plays a bit of percussion, piano, and electronics – and titles include "Adrian", "Bedbugs", "Driven", "Yards", "Wet Feet Splashing", "The Dark", and "Tragically Positive".

Nino Rota — Prova D'Orchestra ... LP
CAM (Italy), 1978. Near Mint- .... $24.99
A very strange album, and one of our favorite scores by Nino Rota! Written for a film in which a disfunctional orchestra stands in as a metaphor for the Italian government, the music has a lot of stopping and starting and talking and disruption – all of which has a very comical effect. The main theme is very compelling, in the usual Rota way, and the record comes together in a nice messed-up pastiche of vein attempts to try to play together.

Warpig — Warpig ... LP
Lion/Kreation, 1970. New Copy .... $16.99
Pre-metal, post-psych, and an incredible batch of hard rock gems from Warpig – an obscure Canadian combo at the start of the 70s – but one who work here at a level that easily matches the best from early Deep Purple or Black Sabbath! Like both of those groups, there's a driving, intense feel to Warpig's music – fuzz borrowed from psych, but really focused in a forward-moving action – spurred on even more strongly by the driving drums and brooding basslines – which all serve to really shade the whole record in a hell of a lot of darkness, right from the start! This is no one-off, obscure-for-obscure-sakes sort of record – as the set's got the power to please even the most suspicious hard rock fan of the time – a flurry of great numbers that includes Flaggi", "Tough Nuts", "Advance Am", "Rockstar", and "Sunflight". Includes great notes too!

Various — Complete Norman Granz Jam Sessions (5 CD Box Set) ... CD
Verve, Early/Mid 50s. Used 5CD .... $39.99
An incredible document of a key genre in 50s jazz on record – the jam session tradition, recorded beautifully for Verve records by the legendary Norman Granz! The idea of a jam session was nothing new at the time, of course, but it was mostly a live phenomenon – known to players from concerts and club dates, or presented on vinyl by Granz, in his celebrated Jazz At The Philharmonic sessions. These dates mark a move into the studio by Granz – one that captures the same sort of energy and unique pairings of musicians that went down in the live sessions, with the added benefit of studio technology to make the work sound even clearer, and more intimate. The 5CD set brings together all 9 Jam Session albums – packaged beautifully in a slipcase with original album cover art, and a full 72 page booklet on the musicians, sessions, and titles included. Players include nearly everyone who might have worked for Verve in the 50s – Benny Carter, Charlie Parker, Johnny Hodges, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Buddy DeFranco, and countless others – and titles include "Jam Blues", "Funky Blues", "Apple Jam", "Blues For The Count", "Jamming For Clef", "Rose Room", "Blue Lou", and "Lullaby In Rhythm" – all in very long versions!
(In the original metal frame.)

Various — Mukunguni – New Recordings From Coast Province Kenya ... CD
Honest Jons (UK), 2013. New Copy Gatefold .... $14.99
Contemporary sounds from Kenya, but music with a very timeless feel – recorded live at different locations in Mukungi village, and often just featuring spare instrumentation and a bit of voice! The quality of the work goes way beyond other ethnographic recordings – as the sound quality is impeccable, and really brings out a lot of the unusual sounds in these styles – music that mixes elements from a range of percussion instruments, plus metal rings, hand claps, bells, oboe, rattles, and more – even some bottle tops, a metal tray, and the bung'o horn! The vocals are often relatively rootsy, and some tracks are all instrumental – and the package is as compelling a contemporary collection as some of the Honest Jons sets of work from much older years. Titles include "Bamba", "Bung'O", "Ndema", "Dena", "Mambodze", "Matatizo", "Pepo Mlume", "Chela", and "Gaserego".

Columbia, 1984. Near Mint- .... $4.99 Just Sold Out!
The follow up to Herbie's groundbreaking hit album Future Shock. There's some rehashing of themes here, with the remake of "Rockit" called "Hardrock" here – basically the same number with some heavy guitar added and a few different solos – plus similar numbers that continue the electro feel, but also add in a peppering of Bill Laswell's world music interest. The album's worth it alone for the presence of D St on a few tracks – and titles include "Hardrock", "Metal Beat", "Karabali", "Junku", "People Are Changing" and "Sound System".

new Aphex Twin — Selected Ambient Works Vol 2 (3LP edition) ... LP
Sire/1972, Early 90s. New Copy 3LP Gatefold (reissue).... $34.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
The second volume of Selected Ambient Works by Aphex Twins – and for us, one of the earliest indications that he was more than a top notch electronic music, but a pretty pivotal composer! It's truly ambient music – and it's quite unlike his 90s records with more of a beat-heavy, post-techno vibe. The beats are quite spare here, and it's much more about elemental, textural atmosphere. That said, it's very compelling, hypnotic stuff – and quite beautiful! As loosely-paced and long as it is – it's involving the whole way through. One of faves from Richard D James. 3LP version includes "Cliffs", "Radiator", "Rhubarb", "Curtains", "Blur", "Weathered Stone", "Domino", "Tree", Grey Stripe", "Z-Twig", "Window Sill", "Lichen", "Spots", "Tassels", "Hexagon","Steel Plate", "Shiny Metal Rods", "Match Sticks" and more.

new Joe Byrd & The Field Hippies — American Metaphysical Circus (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Columbia, 1969. New Copy (reissue).... $15.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
An amazing little record from Joe Byrd – an artist with roots in serious music, but who's serving things up here with a wild hippie aesthetic that makes the whole thing come across more like a "happening" than the usual sort of studio album – but in ways that also echo an earlier generation of Americanist composition too. The process of the record mimics some of Byrd's famous work in New York – and has a very collaborative feel overall, with elements of electronics, acoustics, and vocals coming together beautifully! There's some great tabla, harpsichord, moog, and organ on the record – plus more serious woodwinds and brass – and vocals from Victoria Bond, Susan De Lange, Christie Thompson, and Ernie Anderson – plus Joe himself. Titles include "Kalyani", "Moonsong Pelog", "You Can't Ever Come Down", "Gospel Music", "Nightmare Train", "Leisure World", and "The Elephant At The Door".

new Bo Carter — Banana In Your Fruit Basket – Red Hot Blues 1931 to 1936 (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Yazoo, Mid 30s. New Copy .... $14.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
The cover's a striking one – and it definitely supports the music inside, given that most of these Bo Carter tunes are vintage blues tunes with a decidedly erotic bent! The metaphors are obvious, but they're put together beautifully – without any of the heavy-handed schlock that later copycats would never get quite right – and set to spare acoustic lines that complement Carter's vocals wonderfully. And in a case where a title is definitely more than enough to get you started – let us say simply that the tracks include "Pig Meat Is What I Crave", "What Kind Of Scent Is This", "Mashin That Thing", "Pin In Your Cushion", "Ram Rod Daddy", "Ants In My Pants", "Pussy Cat Blues", and "My Pencil Won't Write No More".

new Ennio Morricone — Opposte Esperienze (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Cometa (Italy), 1976. New Copy .... $26.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Wonderful work from Ennio Morricone – an obscure soundtrack that we somehow missed for years and years – even though we've always been huge fans of his music! There's a quirky, offbeat feel to the record at the start – some playful elements that bounce along with a slight touch of whimsy, but which are also offset by some more languid, mellow Morricone moments too – those slow-moving sexy sounds that can really make some of his best ones sparkle! The story features a violinist, and there's a bit of lead violin at points – but it's the compressed orchestrations that we dig the most. Titles include "Grande Overture", "Adagio Primo", "Largo", "Adagio Secondo", and "Allegretto" – and the CD features loads of bonus tracks too!

new Sainte Anthony's Fyre — Sainte Anthony's Fyre ... LP
Zonk/Lion, 1970. New Copy .... $16.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
A heavy, heavy monster from the New Jersey scene at the start of the 70s – the kind of hard rock gem that was years ahead of its time – and which shows that the American underground had more than enough to beat the bigger Brit groups of the time! Sainte Anthony's Fyre have a name that's a bit flowery, but their music is lean, mean, and packs one hell of a punch – blistering drums and guitar lines that are filled with frenzy – never as indulgent or cocky as later metal, but a lot sharper and more driven than previous psych as well! The album definitely puts the "hard" in "hard rock" – and is a no-nonsense gem all the way through. Titles include "Get Off", "Love Over You", "Lone Soul Road", "Chance Of Fate", and "Wet Back".

new Ananda Shankar — Ananda Shankar ... LP
Reprise, 1970. Used .... $49.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Insanely fantastic! Ananda Shankar was one of the hippest sitar players of the 60s – an artist who was not only steeped in the strongest traditions of Indian music heard in other more mainstream players, but one who also had a keen ear for modder and funkier grooves of the time! This rare American set by Ananda is one of his greatest ever – a brilliant mix of funky backings and tripped out sitar work – done in a way that blends together soul, funk, and rock – all given a particularly cool Indian twist. The vibe is very much in the best funky Bollywood style – but was actually done years before most Bollywood funk – and the set includes great covers of "Jumpin Jack Flash" and "Light My Fire", plus great original tracks like "Sagar (The Ocean)", "Snow Flower", "Dance Indra", and "Metamorphosis".

new Guido & Maurizio De Angelis — La Montagana Del Dio Cannibale/Messalina, Messalina ... CD
Cometa (Italy), 1977/1978. New Copy .... $26.99 Out Of Stock
A pair of thrilling 70s action scores – back to back on a single CD! First up is La Montagna Del Dio Cannibale – a cannibal narrative scored with a great sense of drama by the De Angelis brothers – almost the same energy as their cop/crime work, but without the funk – just full, rich sounds that really build over time, and create this strong feeling of suspense! There's a few exotic elements in the music, given the setting – and these make for some slight hint of a groove – and titles include "Visioni Distorte", "Marcia Allucinante", "La Montagana E Il Mistero", "Ipnosi Tragica", and "Il Dio Cannibale". Messalina Messalina has an older Roman setting, and a relatively sexy narrative – and the music is scored with a mix of percussion, light flute, and some slinky electric basslines – of that great sort that was often used to convey sex in 70s Euro cinema! Some of the melodies are playful, others more erotic – and titles include "Notti Romane", "Danzatrici", "Incontro D'Amore", "Un Piacevole Addio", "Messalina", and "Ballata Burlona".

Space seemed to be a logical direction for Lenny White to go – since his high-powered fusion drumming style is enough to power him right out of the galaxy! Patrick Gleeson had a hand in some of the synthesizer work, and he gives the album a similar astral sound to the work he did on the Mercury label at the same time. There's a lot of guitars in the lead, but they sound pretty nice next to Lenny's heavy drums – and titles include "Heavy Metal Monster", "Assault", "Climax", "Universal Love", "The Great Pyramid", and "Remembering".

new Stevie Wonder — Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants ... LP
Tamla, 1979. Used 2LP Gatefold .... $1.99 Out Of Stock
Very high concept work from Stevie Wonder! The record is, in fact, about the "secret life of plants" – partially used as a soundtrack for a film of the same name, but also acting as kind of a storybook in itself! Stevie's exploring a wide range of plant life and plant themes on the set – often in a way that has his keyboards taking center stage in little symphonies of soul that unfold like the petals of a flower in the morning sun – and which stand out as quite different from some of his vocal work, marking him as a talented electronic musician in his own right. Many tracks do have lyrics, too – often with themes of growing, seeding, and other garden metaphors that are easily translated to the human experience. Titles include "Secret Life Of Plants", "Outside My Window", "A Seed's A Star", "Race Babbling", "Black Orchid", "Send One Your Love", "Tree", "Come Back As A Flower", and "Ai No Sono".

new Various — L'Anthologia Progressive – Il Mosaico Prog Degli Anni 70 ... CD
Cramps (Italy), Early 70s. New Copy Gatefold .... $16.99 Out Of Stock
A great overview of the prog rock explosion in early 70s Italy – a scene that was really brimming over with top-shelf music – most of which never made it to our shores at the time! The Italian prog artists had a tightness that was different than some of their contemporaries on the European scene – and at some levels, they were probably closest to the best and biggest of the Brit prog groups – given the inherent tunefulness of most of these tracks, and the impeccable musicianship – played here in ways that are full and filled with flourishes, but which also have a good sense of economy too. The set's overflowing with key cuts, and comes with a booklet with notes in Italian – and a CD that features 18 tracks that include "Generale" by PFM, "Via Beato Angelico" by Perigeo, "Culto Disarmonico" by Delirium, "Orizzonti Iontani" by Gli Alluminogeni, "Fiori E Colori" by Le Orme, "Lucifero" by Metamorfosi, "Degli Uomini" by Museo Rosenbach, "Nu Gatto Come Nu Lione" by Canzoniere Del Lazio, and "I Cavalieri Del Lago Dell'Ontario" by New Trolls.

new Various — Mukunguni – New Recordings From Coast Province Kenya (2 x 10" LPs with CD) ... LP
Honest Jons (UK), 2013. New Copy 2 x 10" LPs & CD Gat .... $19.99 Out Of Stock
Titles include "Bamba", "Bung'O", "Ndema", "Dena", "Mambodze", "Matatizo", "Pepo Mlume", "Chela", and "Gaserego".

new Ennio Morricone — La Classe Operaia Va In Paradiso ... CD
GDM (Italy), 1971. New Copy .... $14.99 Out Of Stock
One of the most striking Morricone soundtracks we've heard from the early 70s – a really dark little score that's filled with harsh tones and cool electronic effects! The film itself deals with the hardship of life in an Italian factory – and Morricone's music is filled with machine-like moments – stark, stiff rhythms that stamp out in repetition – cold electronic sounds that are without any soul – and a few softer, gentler moments that offer just a bit of relief – then quickly bring you back to the realm of the industrial! The soundtrack is proof that the maestro was always working at the height of his creative powers – setting his music apart from the rest of his contemporaries. Bruno Nicolai gets a nod too – as he directed the orchestra – and titles include "Il Sogno", "Metamorfosi", "La Classe Operaia Va In Paradiso", "Alienazione", "Inventario", and "Sinfonia Dell'Ottimista".
