MaxIonata Organ 3 withFabrizioBosso —
Coffee Time ... CD Albore Jazz (Japan), 2010. New Copy ....
A burning little set – and one that really gets at the best vibe of organ/tenor sessions of the 60s – like some of the hipper work on Prestige, or even some of Larry Young's classics for Blue Note! The group's led by tenorist MaxIonata, but features some amazing keyboards from Luca Mannutza – who plays both organ and Fender Rhodes on the date – giving it that bridge of the 70s feel from those key transformative years for soul jazz keyboards! Other players include the excellent FabrizioBosso on trumpet and flugelhorn – a player who's always a welcome addition to any date – and Lorenzo Tucci on drums, playing with a dynamic flair that would have made Joe Dukes proud. Titles include "Coffee Time", "In N Out", "Donna", "ESC", "Safari", and "Chan's Song". CD
MaxIonata Quartet withFabrizioBosso —
Inspiration ... CD Albore Jazz (Japan), 2009. New Copy ....
An already-great quartet – augmented by some wicked trumpet work by FabrizioBosso! The group perfectly sums up everything that's great about the contemporary Italian jazz scene – a sound that has its roots in classic hardbop of the 50s and 60s, but a youthful energy that instantly communicates all the joy the players get from their music – a renewed sense of strength and purpose that we don't always hear in American jazz dates of this nature! The recording is beautiful – as perfectly put together as some of the Deja Vu sessions from Italy in recent years – and the lineup features the tenor of MaxIonata in the lead, the guest trumpet of FabrizioBosso, piano from Luca Mannutza, bass from Nicola Muresu, and drums from Nicola Angelucci – on some great tunes that are often heavy in modal moments! Gege Telesforo guests on vocals on "Hey Rookie" – and other titles include "Satosong", "Two Friends", "Mi Diverto", "Love For Sale", "Fragile", "The End Of A Love Affair", and "Ginza Line". CD
