One of the most exciting new Brazilian albums we've stocked in a long time! This great new album by Lenine is a mad mix of soulful vocals, flanged-out guitars, rootsy percussion, and modern production with some slight amount of the kinds of sample influences being used by other modern Brazilians (like Carlinhos Brown or Arnaldo Antunes). The real difference, though, is Lenine's great guitar work – which strikes out through the mix in a haunting Beck-ish way. His voice is pretty darn great, too – with a deep richness that we haven't heard since Milton Nascimento or Djavan. The whole package is pretty darn nice – and tracks include "Arede", "Tubi Tupy", "Alzirae Torre", "Relampiano", "Eu Sou Meu Guia", and "Nao Pressao".

A warm and wonderful tribute to the late, great Elis Regina – a special live performance that features some of her best songs ever, performed by a host of artists – including key contemporaries of Regina, and some important younger singers influenced by her music! The musical setting is great – inflected with all the best jazzy elements to rival Regina's best modes from the 70s – tight, but never too commercial – and done in just the right way to remind us why these singers are so wonderful. Singers shift with each number, but the band stays the same – giving a nice unity to the album – and titles include "Cai Dentro" by Seu Jorge, "Nada Sera Como Antes" by Moska, "Upa Neguinho/Arrastao" by Jair Rodrigues, "Tatuagem" by Filipe Catto, "So Tinha De Ser Com Voce" by Emilio Santiago, "Madalena" by Jair Oliveira, "Atras Da Porta" by Lenine, and "O Bebado E A Equilibrista" by Pedro Mariano.

One of the most beautiful albums we've ever heard from Mario Adnet – a set done with some great expanded orchestrations – and key help from guests who include Roberta Sa, Monica Salmaso, and Lenine! The tunes have this spacious, expansive feel that really lives up to the Amazon promise of the title – beautifully poetic, but with the orchestrations, full of fire too – in ways that really take us back to some of the best Brazilian scoring of the early 70s – especially that time when folks like Tom Jobim and Edu Lobo were really hitting their most sophisticated levels. Many numbers have vocals – from Roberta Sa, Vincente Nucci, Monica Salmaso, Lenine, and Mario himself – and titles include "Boto", "Rio Amazonas", "Canoa Canoa", "Trilhas Da Floresta", "Borzeguim", "Saci", and a killer vocal reading of Joao Donato's "A Ra".
