Original 10" LP featuring the second set of historic duets between Brazilian guitarist Almeida and the great LA alto player BudShank. This is the stuff that supposedly ended up back in Brazil and inspired the wave of musicians involved in the bossa nova momement. It's been repackaged a number of times, but it's great to have in this cool original package, with a weird polarized cover featuring a strange green design of intertwining leaves. LP, Vinyl record album
(Black label pressing with deep groove – a great copy!)
A landmark set of recordings cut for the Pacific Jazz label in the early 50s, and supposedly a major influence on the early bossa artists in Brazil! The tracks were cut by a quartet led by LA altoist BudShank, and featuring Brazilian guitarist LaurindoAlmeida, who was living in LA at the time. The mix of alto and guitar, in a jazzy vien, but with Latiny rhythms, is very similar to the early bossa jazz recordings – and even more so to the later American ones by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd. Supposedly, original 10" LPs of the material made their way to Brazil, and later influenced Jobim and Gilberto. Titles on this one include "Nono", "Noctambulism", "Blue Baiao", "Hazardous", and "Tocata". LP, Vinyl record album
5 years after they made their first set of groundbreaking Braziliany jazz tracks together, BudShank and LaurindoAlmeida went back into the studio to record another great batch for Pacific Jazz. That second set of sessions is captured here in its entirety, and it features Shank and Almeida playing with the looser rhythm team of Gary Peacock and Chuck Flores on a number of short groovy tracks that clearly had a big influence on the bossa generation. Titles include "Frio y Color", "Sunset Baion", "Harlem Samba", "Blowing Wild", "Xana-Lyn", and "Serenade For Alto". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono black label pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear.)

BudShank & LaurindoAlmeida —
Holiday In Brazil ... LP World Pacific, 1959. Very Good+ ...
Out Of Stock
A fantastic return to the Braziliance territory crafted by these two legendary musicians – BudShank blowing alto over bossa-styled arrangements from LaurindoAlmeida – in a manner that was years ahead of similar work by Stan Getz and others! LP, Vinyl record album
(Original World Pacific pressing – black label, silver text, deep groove. The back cover has minimal surface wear, and is nice overall!)
A light and dreamy set of Brazilian vocal tracks – recorded in 1967, and featuring the voice of singer Lenita Bruno, a strong 60s talent with a style that's somewhat like Sylvia Telles. Arrangements on the set are by Clare Fischer – who plays piano, organ, and electric harpsichord in a small combo that also includes guitar by LaurindoAlmeida, flute by BudShank, and percussion by Paulinho. Some tracks augment the ensemble with a string quartet – who give the material an appropriately sad tone, perfect for Lenita's blue-styled vocals. Includes a nicely grooving version of "Chove Chuva", plus the tracks "Wave", "Winter Moon", "Sing Sing More", "Dindi", "Stay My Love", and "Someone To Light Up My Life". LP, Vinyl record album
(Sealed original pressing.)

Great work from this sublime 70s group – a unique lineup that features LaurindoAlmeida on guitar, Ray Brown on bass, Jeff Hamilton on drums, and BudShank on alto sax and flute. LP, Vinyl record album
A very cool record! The album's sort of an American tribute to the emerging French sex goddess Brigitte Bardot – one that features a gatefold cover with a wraparound photo of Brigitte, and some nice images on the inside. Music on the set is by Pete Rugolo – the master arranger who'd worked with June Christy, Stan Kenton, and others – and although Bardot doesn't sing or even make an appearance on the set, Pete does more than enough of a good job of conjuring up her presence with a good selection of jazzy tunes. Players include Pete Candoli and Jack Sheldon on trumpets, Frank Rosolino on trombone, Paul Horn and BudShank on reeds, and LaurindoAlmeida on guitar. Gloria Wood sings on one track – and titles include "Arsenic Blues", "Paris BB", "Jeff's Blues", "Mambo Bardot", "A T'Aimer", and "The Night Heaven Fell". LP, Vinyl record album
