Larry Graham & Graham Central Station — Raise Up ... CD
Listen 2/Razor & Tie, 2012. New Copy .... $12.99 13.98
Larry Graham's definitely got his groove back – and steps out here with his funkiest album in years! Graham's not content to just recall the glory days of Graham Central Station – as he really goes for a nice range of flavors in the set – including a taste of New Orleans, heard in the opening drumline on the record – then echoed by some of the tight horn parts in other sections – even though other numbers move into a tighter electric funky style. As before, the bass is definitely driving the bus on most numbers – and Larry's got help on the set from both Prince and Raphael Saadiq – whose vocals really help expand the sound too. Titles include "Throw N Down The Funk", "Raise Up", "Shoulda Coulda Woulda", "Higher Ground", "Welcome 2 Our World", "Movin", and "One Day".

new Larry GrahamOne In A Million You ... LP
Warner, 1980. Used .... $1.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Larry Graham hits the slow jam generation – stepping aside from his funkier groove for this classic album – a record that gave the world a huge crossover cut in the title track! The main focus here is on Larry's vocals, not his basswork – and he does a surprisingly good job as a modern soul male vocalist on the set – one who's a bit more fragile and human at points than some of his contemporaries – still somewhat smooth, but not always as polished. Titles include the megahit "One In A Million You", plus "There's Something About You", "Forever Yours", "When We Get Married", "I Just Can't Stop Dancing", "I'm So Glad It's Summer Again", and "Sunshine Love & Music".
(Cover has a bent corner.)

new Alfie Silas — Alfie/Be Yourself ... CD
1982/1983. New Copy .... Mid-June, 2013
Smooth pop-oriented R&B from the early 80s – with Alfie singing in a vibrato-heavy style that's probably designed to make you think she's an emotional vocalist. The album contains the singles "There I Go" and "A Puppet To You" – plus the tracks "Put The Freeze On", "Body Heat", and "Can't We Do It All Again". A six track "mini LP", issued back in the early 80s – when a few labels were experimenting witth that format. This one's actually better than Alfie's preceding full LP – thanks probably to Larry Graham, who produced the record, wrote all tracks, and also played drums, bass, and keyboards. Alfie's in an emotive, slightly overblown vocal mode – but the overall sound is pretty straight modern soul. Titles include "Be Yourself", "Just A Little Bit", "You Put The L In Love", "Stay With Me", and "I'm Available".

new Graham Central Station — Ain't No Bout-A-Doubt It ... LP
Warner, 1975. Used .... $9.99 Out Of Stock
One of the high points of Larry Graham's career – a hard-jamming set of guitar-based funk that forever put Graham Central Station on the map! There's a virtuosity to the record that's really stunning – bass, guitar, and drums all dropping into place magically alongside one another – while still managing to come across with a relaxed soulful approach that definitely makes this one more heavy funk than later years. Titles include "The Jam", "It's Alright", "I Can't Stand The Rain", "It Ain't Nothin But A Warner Bros Party", and "Easy Rider".
(Cover has a cutout notch. Labes have marker.)
