✨✧ Joe Newman with Frank FosterGood N Groovy ... LP
Prestige/Swingville, 1961. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Tight swing-based material from trumpeter Joe Newman, featuring Frank Foster as a very welcome bandmate in the frontline! The rest of the group includes Tommy Flanagan on piano, plus Eddie Jones on bass and Bill English on drums. The tracks have a nice open-ended quality, with good room for grooving and solos, and lots of nice tenor from Foster. Titles include "To Rigmor", "AM Romp", "Mo Lasses", and "Loop D Loop". LP, Vinyl record album
(Red label Swingville pressing with deep groove and RVG stamp – nice and clean! Cover has very light wear in one corner, but is great too.)

✨✧ Frank Wess, Kenny Burrell, Joe Newman & OthersJazz For Playboys ... LP
Savoy, Mid 50s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of those classic 50s sessions in which a bunch of Count Basie players split off from the bigger group and do some great small combo work on their own! The album is leader-less in its billing – but only because all the players are so well tuned to each other, and have such a simpatico relationship that there's no need for egos to drive the record. Tracks are longish and more open than any Basie setting – and players include Frank Wess on flute and tenor, Kenny Burrell on solo guitar, Freddie Green on rhythm guitar, and Joe Newman on trumpet. Wess' solos are often out in the lead, but Burrell and Newman also get in some nice licks – and titles include "Pin Up", "Playboy", "Miss Blues", and "Blues For A Playmate". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Joe NewmanSoft Swingin Jazz ... LP
Coral, 1958. Good ... Out Of Stock
A unique outing that has Joe's trumpet backed by Shirley Scott's organ, and which also features Joe doing a bit of vocalizing himself! The laidback setting on the record is really nice – an easygoing mode that has Newman relaxing into a groove that's a bit fresher than usual, and which gives him ample space to slide notes around with his characteristic phrasing on trumpet. Other players include Eddie Jones on bass and Charlie Persip on drums – and titles include "Three Little Words", "Scotty", "The Farmer's Daughter", "Rosetta", and "Save Your Love For Me". ✨✧ Joe Newman/Zoot SimsLocking Horns ... LP
Roulette, 1957. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
We're not sure we've ever heard trumpeter Joe Newman and tenorist Zoot Sims work together on a record – and certainly never as striking a setting as this – a record that really gives both musicians a chance to open up and blow! Despite the title, the players are less "locking horns" here than really working together in the lead – hitting the kind of tight head arrangements that you might hear on some of Sims material with RCA, but getting a grittier groove from both the Roulette Records style of recording, and the efforts of a cool rhythm trio that features Adrian (Johnny?) Acea on piano, Oscar Pettiford on bass, and Osie Johnson drums. Newman's horn has an especially gutbuckety quality, and Sims follows suit with some deeply soulful work on his solos – on titles that include "Corky", "Mambo For Joe", "Midnite Fantasy", "Tater Pie", "Oh Joe", and "Oh Shaye". ✨✧ Count Basie with Joe WilliamsBreakfast Dance & Barbecue ... LP
Roulette, 1959. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
Breakfast Dance & Barbecue? Our stomachs are growling already! The album's a great little live set from Basie – recorded at the Americana Hotel in Miami at 2 in the morning – and is one of the totally great, totally smoking live sessions that Basie recorded for Roulette – maybe some of his best work ever! The group's an all-star lineup – with Frank Foster and Frank Wess on tenor, Joe Newman and Thad Jones on trumpets, Freddie Green on guitar, and Sonny Payne on drums – plus Joe Williams vocalizing on a few of the tunes on the set. The tracks are a bit longer than usual – which is quite nice – and titles include "Let's Have A Taste", "Moten Swing", "Who Me", and "Counter Block". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Count BasieApril In Paris ... LP
Verve, 1955. Very Good+ ... Just Sold Out!
One of Basie's biggest albums – but still a work of pure genius! "April In Paris" is one of the darkest jazz standards ever written, and it never sounded better than in this original version, which features that great ending in which Basie and the band stop, then start, then stop – leaving you completely unresolved at the finish. The group's a strong one – with Frank Foster, Frank Wess, Freddie Green, Sonny Payne, Marshall Royal, Henry Coker, Joe Newman, and Thad Jones – and tracks include "Shiny Stockings", "Midgets", "Mambo Inn", "Sweety Cakes", and "Corner Pocket". LP, Vinyl record album

Count BasieBasie ... LP
Clef, Early 50s. Very Good ... $16.99
A beautiful early Verve recording by Basie – one that's packaged here in a great David Stone Martin cover, with a red and blue watercolor of Basie himself. Players include Frank Foster, Frank Wess, Ernie Wilkins, Marshall Royal, Joe Newman, Thad Jones, Bennie Powell, and Freddie Green – plus Basie, of course. Titles include "Two Franks", "Ska Di Didle Dee Bee Doo", "Rails", "Blues Backstage", and "Perdido" – and there's a very strong focus on the best soloists in the group! (Note: this material was also issued under the title The Band Of Distinction – but this is the first version.) LP, Vinyl record album

Buck ClaytonHow Hi The Fi ... LP
Columbia, 1954. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $11.99
A record with a title that sounds like it should be something of a bachelor pad release from the title, but which is instead a good old fashioned, no holds barred, open-ended jazz session from trumpeter Buck Clayton! All tracks are nice and long – way more than usual for big label jazz at the time – and Clayton's trumpet is lineup alongside those of Joe Newman and Joe Thomas, plus other players who include Woody Herman on clarinet, Urbie Green and Benny Powell on trombones, Julian Dash and Al Cohn on tenor, Charlie Fowkes on baritone, Freddie Green on guitar, and Sir Charles Thompson on piano. Titles include "Moten Swing", "Sentimental Journey", "How Hi The Fi", and "Blue Moon". LP, Vinyl record album

Buck ClaytonHuckle-buck & Robbins' Nest – A Buck Clayton Jam Session ... LP
Columbia, 1953. Very Good+ ... $5.99 7.99
A heavy classic from trumpeter Buck Clayton – and a record that set a whole new standard for the jam session on record at the time! The album pushes forward strongly from the territory of the Jazz At The Philharmonic and Jam Session records on Verve – with a vibrancy that's even stronger, and which really has Clayton's leadership bringing all the players into sharp focus. Each track takes up a side of the record – with plenty of room for individual solo work from players who include Joe Newman on trumpet, Urbie Green and Henderson Chambers on trombones, Lem Davis on alto, Julian Dash on tenor, Charlie Fowlkes on baritone, Sir Charles Thompson on piano, and Freddie Green on guitar! The performances are nicely more focused than looser live jam session material of this nature – and titles include "The Huckle-Buck" and "Robbin's Nest". LP, Vinyl record album

Nat King ColeWelcome To The Club ... LP
Capitol, 1959. Near Mint- ... $7.99
One of our favorite albums by Nat King Cole – done with a bit more depth and feeling than some of his other Capitol sets of the time – and some great jazzy backings, too! Arrangements are by Dave Cavanaugh, but there's almost a Basie-like quality to the group at times – never too hard-swinging, but definitely that slow-burning quality the Count could hit so well with a singer, especially on the horns! The group is awash with Basie-ites – and saxes are by Marshall Royal, Frank Foster, Billy Mitchell, and Frank Wess; trumpets include Joe Newman and Thad Jones; trombones feature Al Grey, Henry Coker, and Benny Powell; and rhythm features guitar from Freddie Greene, piano from Gerald Wiggins, and drums from Sonny Payne – definitely a swinging lineup. Titles include the great "Welcome To The Club" – plus "Anytime Anyday Anywhere", "The Late Late Show", "Wee Baby Blues", "Avalon", "She's Funny That Way", and "The Blues Don't Care". LP, Vinyl record album
(80s French pressing on Pathe Marconi. Cover has light wear, some aging, and a bent portion at the top of the spine.)

Tim HardinPainted Head ... LP
Columbia, 1972. Very Good+ ... $11.99
A sublime early 70 set of rustic-accented folk, soul & blues from Tim Hardin that's heavy on covers – with tunes penned by Willie Dixon, Randy Newman, and others – in a soulful rock mode that's just ragged enough to give it a loose charm unlike any of Hardin's earlier work! Tim's in fine, effortlessly soulful voice here on material that could have found him going over the top, ala Joe Cocker, but he's tastefully restrained throughout. An underrated gem! Titles include the a loosely buzzing cover of the eternal Bo Diddley via Willie Dixon masterpiece "You Can't Judge A Book By The Cover" and Dixon's "Do The Do", plus "Midnight Caller", "Yankee Lady", "Lonesome Valley", "Till We Meet Again", "I'll Be Home", "Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out" and more. Milt JacksonPlenty, Plenty Soul ... LP
Atlantic, 1957. Near Mint- ... Just Sold Out!
Plenty plenty soul here – as Milt Jackson's moving away from the Modern Jazz Quartet, and working with a great group of players that really expand his sound! The session's a bit like some of Milt's soul jazz work for Riverside and other labels – in that it's got rhythms, timings, and solos that all are much more gutbuckety than you'd expect from the other side of his career – a real nod towards the nascent soul jazz sound in the late 50s, served up with lots of undercurrents from R&B and gospel in the mix. Side one features players that include Ronnie Peters on alto sax, Frank Foster on tenor, and Sahib Shihab on baritone – plus Horace Silver on piano – and Silver makes a return appearance on side two, alongside a group that includes Lucky Thompson on tenor and Joe Newman on trumpet. Titles include "Plenty, Plenty Soul", "Boogity Boogity", "Heartstrings", "Sermonette", "The Spirit Feel", "Ignunt Oil", and "Blues At Twilight". LP, Vinyl record album

Etta JonesEtta Jones Sings (Roulette) ... LP
Roulette, Early 60s. Very Good ... $9.99
An overlooked gem from jazz singer Etta Jones – an effort cut around the same time as her better-known records for Prestige, but one that's maybe done with an even hipper sound overall! Etta's nicely laidback, and hits that soulful, singing mood that makes her so great right from the start – a bit offbeat, but in the best way possible – as Jones brings older bluesy inflections into play with more contemporary ideas – all set to wonderful instrumentation from a cool group that features Junior Mance on piano, Kenny Burrell on guitar, Joe Newman on trumpet, Frank Wess on tenor, and Mike Manieri on vibes. The song choices are great – and the balance between steppers and mellow cuts is perfect – on titles that include "Swinging Shepherd Blues", "All Right OK You Win", "Moon Man", "Did I Remember", "Lonely Crowd", and "I Was Telling Him About You". Hermeto PascoalHermeto ... LP
Cobblestone/Far Out (UK), Early 70s. New Copy (reissue)... $26.99 29.99
The amazing first album from Brazilian modern musical genius Hermeto Pascoal – a set that would change the world of jazz and Brazilian music for years to come! By the time of the set, Hermeto was no stranger to the scene – he'd recorded famously in Quarteto Novo with Airto, and in some other key groups – yet this set also marks a real transformation, the rise of Pascoal as a new visionary, with endless fresh ideas for sounds, rhythms, and instrumental possibilities! And yet, the album's still very groovy – it follows nicely off the spirit of Quarteto Novo, and mixes tight rhythmic changes with all sorts of incredible instrumental inflections – work by Pascoal on keyboards and flute – augmented with drums and percussion from Airto, and a range of reeds from American jazz musicians Jerome Richardson, Maurico Smith, Joe Farrell, Jerry Dodgion, and Hubert Laws – as well as trombone from the great Garnett Brown, and trumpets from Thad Jones and Joe Newman. The mix of American players and Brazilian inspiration is wonderful – and Airto and Flora Purim produced the set – and the latter sings a bit on the record. Titles include "As Marianas", "Alicate", "Hermeto", "Coalhada", "Fabiola", "Guizos", and "Flor Do Amor". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ RascalsPeaceful World ... LP
Columbia, 1971. Very Good 2LP Gatefold ... $7.99
Nothing too peaceful here – at least not in a sleepy sort of way – as The Rascals are really hitting on all burners, and starting to mix a bit of funk in with their groove! The record's a great extension of the group's last work on Atlantic – and it takes that already-righteous territory, and furthers it a bit more with some heavy rhythms on the bottom, and nicely jamming guitar work on the top! There's a great sense of soul that informs the whole album – even at some of the more rockish points – and titles include the excellent side-long cut "Peaceful World", a long instrumental workout with a nice slow bubbling funky sound that's almost in the style of Chicano rock. The albumf eatures guest work from jazz players like Hubert Laws on flute, Alice Coltrane on harp, Garnett Brown on trombone, Joe Garrell on tenor sax, and Joe Newman on trumpet – and other titles include "Little Dove", "Visit To Mother Nature Land", "Happy Song", "Icy Water", "Sky Trane", and "In & Out Of Love". Jimmy SmithHoochie Cooche Man ... LP
Verve, 1966. Very Good+ Gatefold ... $5.99
Jimmy pays tribute to an earlier generation of R&B – in a hard-wailing set of soul jazz, done with backings from the legendary Oliver Nelson! A few tracks feature vocals by Jimmy, in a rough bluesy style, and others have some harmonica by Buddy Lucas – in a raspy, hard-wailing mode that still fits in nicely with the jazzier style of the album. Jimmy's organ is right up front on most numbers – recorded with that full, dynamic sound that makes so many of his Verve albums a treasure – and the best numbers have a more contemporary 60s groove alongside the older bluesy roots. Grady Tate plays drums – surprisingly funky at times – and other players include Melba Liston and Tom McIntosh on trombones, Billy Butler on guitar, Bob Cranshaw on Fender bass, and Joe Newman on trumpet. Titles include "Hi Heel Sneakers", "TNT", "Boom Boom", "Ain't That Just Like A Woman", and "One Mint Julep". LP, Vinyl record album

Mercury, 1958. Very Good- ... $5.99
The title's a bit of a joke – because the record features a batch sidemen from the Count Basie band – Thad Jones, Joe Newman, Freddy Green, Billy Mitchell, Frank Foster, and others – all working with Sarah, but the Count's name is missing, due to contractual obligations! Despite that lack, though, the grooves are very much in the best Basie mode – full of soul and searing horn lines – at a level that makes the album one of Sarah's liveliest from the time! Players include Thad Jones and Joe Newman on trumpet, Al Grey on trombone, Frank Foster and Frank Wess on tenor, and Freddie Green on guitar – and Ronnell Bright handles the piano, instead of Basie. Titles include "Darn That Dream", "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes", "Doodlin", "Just One Of Those Things", "No Count Blues", and "Missing You". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Marian MontgomeryMarian Montgomery Swings For Winners & Losers ... LP
Capitol, 1963. Very Good ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
We love Marian Montgomery – and she's a heck of a great singer with a really unusual sound! In an early 60s work of sultry vixens, Marian's got a harder-swinging groove that's almost in a Ray Charles mode – clearly inspired by 50s R&B, but done with enough of a jazz flourish to expand out the sound nicely. Plus, she's got a really rhythmic approach to her work, no matter what the tune – which makes for an uncanny ability to turn even a sleeper into a surprising swinger. Here, it also helps that Dick Hyman's handling the arrangements – playing organ and piano himself on the record, and working with a small combo that includes Kenny Burrell, Joe Newman, Milt Hinton, and Willie Rodriguez. The whole thing's plenty great – and titles include "Breezin Along With The Breeze", "When Sunny Gets Blue", "My Buddy", "The Exciting Mister Fitch", "Deed I Do", and "All By Myself". ✨✧ Paul QuinichetteKid From Denver ... LP
Dawn, 1956. Very Good ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Brilliant work from the "Vice Pres" – tenorist Paul Quinichette, stepping out here in one the best of of his all-too-few sessions as a leader! Paul's tone is amazing throughout – very much on a par with that of Ben Webster or Coleman Hawkins, and proof that his admission to the jazz "executive branch" in the 50s was well deserved. The tunes are shortish, but very swinging – and Quinichette's tenor work dominates in a group that also includes Nat Pierce, Henry Coker, Thad Jones, Freddie Green, and Joe Newman. There's a Basie-esque swing overall – but the final result is miles from Basie, and has a very different vibe overall. Titles include "Big Deal", "Happy Feeling", "Pardon The Blues Please", "Start Here", and "The Kid From Denver". LP, Vinyl record album
(Black label mono pressing with deep groove – nice and clean. Cover has one bumped corner, and all corners have a small bit of tape – but overall this is a nice clean copy.)

✨✧ Count BasieBasie (aka E=MC2) ... LP
Roulette, 1957. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of THE seminal Basie albums of all time – and a masterful pairing between the Count and arranger Neal Hefti! Hefti has an amazing ear for the Basie groove, and he works here to re-fit the overall sound of the group with a tighter, more fluid approach – one that ensured that they'd be alive and booming well into the 60s. The Hefti touch is one that's slightly lighter than the Basie of before – one that assumes the bump at the bottom, but never overdoes it – and instead almost uses the sound of no sound at all to carry the rhythm – while the horns at the top of the group are vamping around in these majestic charts that break out into fantastically searing solos. Basie's on piano, natch – and other players include Thad Jones, Joe Newman, Henry Coker, Al Grey, Frank Wess, Frank Foster, and Eddie Lockjaw Davis. Titles are all brilliant Hefti originals – and include "After Supper", "Flight Of The Foo Birds", "Teddy The Toad", "Splanky", "Fantail", and "Lil Darlin". LP, Vinyl record album

Where a Vic Damone might have used his inherent richness to push things over the top, the maturing Tony is a master of restraint – still able to run the full gamut of his amazing range, but set up with these beautiful arrangements that bring some adult understanding to the tunes, in a beautifully subtle vibe. ✨✧ Brook BentonHome Style ... LP
Cotillion, 1970. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
Wonderful work from Brook Benton – and the kind of record that always gets overlooked in discussions of southern soul, but which is proof that Benton's always been a key force in the genre! Brook virtually invented the style with his earlier country soul recordings – and by the time of this 1970 set, he's in perfect form vocally – and working under some wonderfully sophisticated arrangements by Arif Mardin. The result is the kind of cross-genre record that Brook could do effortlessly – and which should have made him huge, but instead kind of got him left behind by all the other folks who were copping his style. Yet with the strength of a record like this, we'll take that overlooked fame as still OK – because the set's a gem just waiting to be discovered by later generations like us! Rhythm's by the Dixie Flyers – augmented by jazz players that include King Curtis, Pepper Adams, and Joe Newman. Titles include "Aspen Colorado", "For Lee Ann", "Whoever Finds This, I Love You", "Don't It Make You Wanta Go Home", and "Let Me Fix It". LP, Vinyl record album

More of a jazz album than the early vocal singles of Ray Charles – but a set that definitely is as great as promised by the title! Ray's in the lead on piano – taking some strong solos, and showing us what a sensitive phraseologist he can be when needed – really showcasing that side of his talents even more strongly away from his vocals. The album's got some great sidemen, too – David Newman on alto and tenor, Joe Bridgewater and John Hunt on trumpets, Emmott Dennis on baritone, and even a bit of guest work on bass from Oscar Pettiford. Argo, 1964. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
A great little album from tenor legend Budd Johnson – and a record that nicely updates his sound by pairing him with a hip 60s-styled group! The album's got a jaunty feel that's like the best soul jazz sessions on Impulse at the time – taking Budd's tenor and placing it next to trumpet by Joe Newman, piano by Albert Dailey, bass from Richard Davis, and drums by Grady Tate. Upbeat tracks bounce along in a swinging take on mainstream soul jazz – and the mellower cuts feature some really wonderful blowing from Budd – done with a raspy tone that's got a nice earthy quality! Includes the jazz dancer "Off The Wall", the samba-styled "Strange Music", a snapping take on "Baubles Bangles & Beads", and the syncopated groover "Playin' My Hunch". LP, Vinyl record album
(Yellow & pink label pressing in a black and white cover, with some edge and ring wear.)

✨✧ Modern Jazz QuartetPlastic Dreams ... LP
Atlantic, 1971. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
One of the groovier albums the Modern Jazz Quartet ever recorded – as you might expect, given the cover and title! In addition to the group's usual cool sound from Milt Jackson's vibes, the set also features John Lewis playing a bit of harpsichord in addition to his usual piano – and the group's also augmented on a few tracks with some great horns from Snookie Young and Joe Newman on trumpets, Garnett Brown on trombone, Jim Buffington on French horn, and Don Butterfield on tuba – a change that really gives the record a nicely different flavor from other MJQ albums. John Lewis composed all of the tracks – and titles include "Walkin Stomp", "Dancing", "Plastic Dreams", "Variations On A Christmas Theme", "Travlin", "Piazza Novona", and "England's Carol". LP, Vinyl record album
(Green & red Rockefeller label stereo pressing with Warner rim logo. Cover has a cutout notch, some surface wear, and some light scrapes and a bit of gloss separation in back.)

It certainly was the band of distinction – especially at this point, when the group featured players like Frank Foster, Frank Wess, Ernie Wilkins, Marshall Royal, Joe Newman, Thad Jones, Bennie Powell, and Freddie Green. And hey, let's not forget Basie himself! Titles include "Two Franks", "Ska Di Didle Dee Bee Doo", "Rails", "Blues Backstage", and "Perdido" – and there's a very strong focus on the best soloists in the group! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Arnett CobbKeep On Pushin ... LP
Beehive, 1984. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A rare later date from tenor giant Arnett Cobb – and one of the few to match the groove of his Prestige Records sessions! There's an easygoing groove here that takes us back to the brilliantly understated soul of Cobb's Party Time Records – as the set's got a similar laidback rhythm vibe – with piano from Junior Mance, bass from George Duvivier, and drums from Panama Francis – all players who really keep things cool, while Cobb steps out with some well-blown solos in the lead. The album also features a bit of guest work on two tracks from Joe Newman on trumpet and Al Grey on trombone – and titles include "Cheatin On Me", "Blues For Lisette", "Keep On Pushin", "Stardust", and "Deep River". ✨✧ Eddie JeffersonLetter From Home ... LP
Riverside, 1962. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The beginning of a whole new chapter of greatness for singer Eddie Jefferson – a record that took his older style of putting words to jazz solos, and updated it nicely for a new generation in the 60s! Eddie's got a rootsy look on the cover, but the sound here is snappingly hip and sophisticated throughout – a cool soul jazz take on vocalese that's right up there with the best solo work by Jon Hendricks, and sung in a similarly raspy style. The group shifts a bit from track to track – between small combo and larger ensemble arranged by Ernie Wilkins – and players include Clark Terry and Joe Newman on trumpets, Johnny Griffin on tenor, James Moody on alto and flute, Junior Mance and Joe Zawinul on piano, and Barry Galbraith on guitar. Titles include some great original lyrics by Jefferson on the tunes "Soft & Furry", "Keep Walkin", "Things Are Getting Better", and "Back In Town" – and equally great vocals on versions of "Letter From Home", "Billie's Bounce", and "Night In Tunisia". ✨✧ MachitoKenya ... LP
Roulette, 1958. Very Good- ... Out Of Stock
A real corker from Machito – a set that's got a lot more bite and earthy fire than some of his other albums of the 50s – as you might be able to guess from the cover and the title! The record definitely lives up to the Afro-Cuban promise on the front – thanks to very hip arrangements from Mario Bauza and AK Salim – who balance core rhythmic elements with some great modern jazz solo contributions – from key players who include Johnny Griffin on tenor, Cannonball Adderley on alto, Joe Newman on trumpet, and Eddie Bert on trombone – all coming together under Machito's leadership with a sound that's much bolder than most of his work in a straighter Latin mode! The album's a key meeting of styles – as powerful today as it was when first recorded – and tracks include the great "Congo Mulence", a very tight groover – plus "Turuato", "Frenzy", "Cannonology", "Minor Rama", and "Wild Jungle". ✨✧ Count BasieHigh Voltage ... LP
MPS, 1970. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Late niceness from Count Basie – and a set that definitely lives up to its name – a really high energy set, and one of the few times that Basie ever recorded for the MPS label! The group here works with sharp arrangements from Chico O'Farrill – who's got that punchy groove he was really perfecting in the 60s – a rhythmic snap that works just as well with the Basie group as Neal Hefti's charts did a decade before! Tunes are mostly standards, served up in a no-nonsense mode that's very heavy on the overall rhythmic conception of the group – but with some nice breakout solo moments, too – as you might hope for with a group that includes Eddie Lockjaw Davis on tenor, Eric Dixon on flute and tenor, Joe Newman on trumpet, Jerry Dodgion on alto, and Buddy Morrow on trombone. Titles include "Together", "If I Were A Bell", "The Lady Is A Tramp", "Chicago", "Have You Met Miss Jones", "Day In Day Out", and "When Sunny Gets Blue". LP, Vinyl record album
