Part one of Joe Gibbs African Dub series, featuring super-heavy spaced out dubs of Gibbs' solid gold rocker's rhythms. Underrated mixologist Errol T provides an ample helping of dub sauce, and somehow he manages to sound just this side of gimmicky when dropping in all those weird sound effects of dogs barking and sirens, but with those chubby Gibbs riddims thundering along underneath, it doesn't matter much what kind of sound effects get thrown in. Crazy fat smoked out grooves featuring: "African Dub", "Universal Dub", Midnight Movie", "Ghetto Skank", "Lime Key Rock", "Lover's Serenade", "Treasure Dub", "Schooling The Beat", "Campus Rock", "Half Ounce", "Worrier", and "East Africa".

new Dennis Brown -- Visions Of Dennis Brown ... CD
Joe Gibbs/VP/17 North Parade, 1977. New Copy .... $10.99 11.98 Out Of Stock
The late night lover gets on the African Roots wagon and heads deep into Rasta territory with Joe Gibbs at the helm on this mid 70s gem! Dennis Brown was well established as a leading Lovers Rock and Jamaican soul singer by the time he cut this excellent roots effort for Joe Gibbs in the mid 70s, and the transformation was undoubtably noteworthy. new Terry Gibbs -- Exciting Terry Gibbs Big Band -- Recorded Live At The Summitt In Hollywood ... LP
Verve, Mid 50s. Very Good- .... $0.49
We don't know if we'd stretch so far as to use the word "exciting" to talk about Terry's work -- but his band here is filled with some great west coast players -- including Bill Perkins, Richie Kamuca, Mel Lewis, Frank Rosolino, and Joe Maini -- all coming together with a bit more of a kick than usual. Terry's vibes are right out front in the mix, almost doing a mainstream Lionel Hampton kind of thing -- on short tracks that include "Summit Blues", "Limerick Waltz", "None Cone", "Ja Da", and "T & S".

Various -- Disco Spectrum -- Real Disco For Real People (Compiled By Joey Negro) ... CD
BBE (UK), 1999. New Copy 2CDs .... $14.99
BBE have done it again! They let Joey Negro go crazy, and put together a monster set of his favorite disco tracks of all time -- so monster that they had to make the compilation bigger than usual (although they're still giving it to you at a nice nice price!) As you know, Joey's no sleeper -- so the quality of this set's super high, and is the result of years of digging for rare disco singles all over the world. Titles include "Bourgie Bourgie" by John Davis Orchestra, "Come Back Lover" by Fresh Band, "I Don't Want You Back" by Ramona Brooks, "Let Me Down Easy" by Rare Pleasure, "In the Forest" by Baby O, "Together Forever" by Exodus, "I'll Be Your Pleasure" by Esther Williams, and "Que Tal America" by Two Man Sound. The set also includes a few tracks that are also on other BBE comps -- like ones by John Gibbs, Huson People, and Family of Eve -- but given the extra big size of this one, we're assuming you won't mind the repeats, and they sound extra-nice next to the other high-quality cuts!
