A true classic by Jimi with the original Experience lineup – the third of three straight up masterpiece LPs to comeout in just over a year's time by the group! You could call the leftfield astral effects in the mix experimental if you wanted to – innovations in the studio with echo, that hallucinatory backwards sound effect and other stranger bits – but the passionate, naturally expressive playing and singing by Jimi makes it all feel just right. Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell still don't get enough credit for being at the heart of such greatness. A massive 2LP effort that include s"Voodoo Chile", "Crosstown Traffic", "Electric Ladyland", "Little Miss Strange", "Moon Turn The Tides", "Still Raining Still Dreaming" and "All Along The Watchtower".

A really amazing live set from Jimi Hendrix – recorded in Berkeley at a very fervent time in that city's scene – which spins out in some amazing interplay between the musicians on the stage, and the rapturous fans in the audience! Hendrix is right on the money throughout – ripping through guitar lines that remind us that there's few out there who can still touch his genius in this stretch – and the show's recorded with just the right focus on Jimi to really make his power resonate strongly throughout! The set features the full second set of the May 30 performance from 1970 – presented in order, in its entirety, with beautiful mastering. Titles include "Pass It On", "Hey Baby", "Foxy Lady", "Purple Haze", "Star Spangled Banner", "Hey Joe", "Stone Free", and even an introductory part that's pretty compelling!

Well, turns out that the Experience folks have found some amazing work on the vaults – really incredible tracks that are way more than just a rehash of previous releases, aren't demo recordings at all – and are instead some wonderful work that really comes together well as a long-overdue full album! The set's a stunning smoker through and through – filled with the kind of deft guitar work that made Jimi a legend right from the start – and stuffed into tunes that pack as much of a punch as any of the famous Hendrix singles that have kept spinning for so many years. All tracks are studio recordings, all previously unreleased – and titles include new songs like "Somewhere" and "Hear My Train A Comin", plus studio takes of "Inside Out" and "Bleeding Heart" – and lots more great tracks that include "Earth Blues", "Let Me Love You", "Izabella", "Crash Landing", "Easy Blues", and "Mojo Man".

The Jimi Hendrix of Turkey? That may well be the case with the legendary Erkin Koray – a musician who may not have had the pure chops of Hendrix, but who definitely helped transform the guitar sound of an entire generation! Erkin's got this massively wicked groove – rooted in years of Turkish tradition, yet electrified too – and often laid out over rhythms that are hypnotic and exotic – a perfect fit for the tripped-out production of the tunes! This excellent double-length collection brings together material from rare singles and albums by Koray – and really stands as a perfect introduction to one of the coolest cats in the Near East during the 70s – music that really defies description, not to mention the boundaries of language and nation as well. Titles include "Sevince", "Anma Arkadas", "Eyvah", "Arap Saci", "Komsu Kizi", "Timbilli", "Sana Birseyler Olmus", "Silinmeyen Hatiralar", "Yagmur", "Mesafeller", and "Feshuphanallah".

Funky funky Hendrix! The record's a surprisingly enjoyable batch of covers – all Jimi Hendrix tunes (save one), played by a funky combo with a very raw guitar in the front! There's plenty of pyrotechnics on the guitar, and the record has lots of solos, but there's also some good funky flute, and the bass and drums come together nicely on the best tracks. Includes versions of "Manic Depression", "Purple Haze", "Foxy Lady", "Fire", and "Little Miss Lover" – plus the band's own "Rubber Jam", which is a pretty nice funky number!

An incredible album from one of the greatest talents on the Chicago soul scene of the late 60s – guitarist Phil Upchurch, a player with an amazing sound! Phil could work in worlds that were equal parts soul and psychedelia – making his guitar a perfect accompaniment for the best Chicago soul of Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway, Minnie Riperton, and other greats of the time. This album's easily one of Phil's best – a mindblowing set of arrangements put together by the groundbreaking producer Charles Stepney – bringing together bits of jazz, rock, soul, and funk – all providing the perfect genre-blending space for Upchurch to solo! Given that there's no singer on the set, Phil's work on guitar is a lot freer than you're used to hearing – in a really great way, one that puts him in a space somewhere between Shuggie Otis and Jimi Hendrix! Brilliant all the way through, with tracks that include "Adam & Charlene", "You Wouldn't You Couldn't Be True", "Crosstown Traffic", "More & More", "Black Gold", "America", and "As You Said".

Bluesy soul from Buddy Miles – an album that was half-produced by Jimi Hendrix, and which showcases the really crowd-pleasing side of Miles' sound! Tracks are a mix of soul covers and original numbers – done in a mode that puts plenty of guitar out front in the mix, and which uses Buddy's screaming vocals a bit more than his heavier drums. Horns are used on most numbers to give them a bit of southern soul inflection, and titles include a great live jamming take on "Wrap It Up", the funky "Destructive Love", and the cuts "Cigarettes & Coffee", "Miss Lady", "Texas", and "My Chant".

Wicked post-psychedelic rock from Wicked Lady – which are purportedly the group's final recordings – and it's incredible stuff! It's a slab pre-metal heaviness that balance fuzzy guitars and trudging rhythms with a killer groove! The guitars are epic – with swirling psych-indebted fuzz and trudging, Sabbath-y riffs. What's great about the group is the way they carry the influences of both late 60s psych and early 70s proto-metal, while skirting the cliches of both. It sounds great – and it's the kind of thing that still makes waves in underground rock – even decades later! Includes "I'm A Freak", "Tell The Truth", "Passion" a wooly cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile", "Why Don't You Let Me Try", "Sin City" and the epic closer "Ship Of Ghosts", which spans side four on its own.
