An amazing look at the Czechoslovakian scene of the 60s – with a special focus on some of the nation's hippest piano players of the time! One name here will definitely be familiar – a very young Jan Hammer, playing acoustic piano in a style that's very different than his later fusion work – but all other artists are relatively unknown on these shores, yet are tremendous players with a really wide depth of styles! Virtually all the music here is modern jazz – no hokey pop or cocktail piano – yet each player takes things a bit differently – sometimes with a soulful bounce, sometimes a more lyrical approach, other times in a mode that's gentle yet complex – all of which makes for a wonderful collection that offers up a bold new surprise at each twist and turn. Titles include "Responsibility" and "Autumn Leaves" by Jan Hammer, "Woody N You" and "Ballata Per Tre" by Ladislav Gerhardt, "Intoxication" by Rudolf Roki, "Valeria" and "Inter Mezzo Forte" by Josef Blaha, "Made In Tunisia" and "Secret Love" by Karel Ruzicka, and "Swingin" by Ludek Svabensky.
