Uptempo funky James from the end of the 70s – aimed at the discos, but with that funky sound of earlier days still pretty much in place! In other words, there's plenty of funky instrumentation in the cuts – a bit faster than in earlier years, but still quite nice – plus occasional flourishes of strings, to give the cuts a bit more of a disco approach. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Syl's last big record – a sweet bluesy groover for the clubs, with a bit of an older feel to it. "Ms Fine Brown Frame" was written with General Crook, who also produced and arranged. Backing on all tracks is by the James Cotton group. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Another nice mid-80's Profile MC that somehow never put out a full length LP. It really is a shame. Probably our favorite use of the JamesBrown "Talkin Loud" sample. 12-inch, Vinyl record
A great single that signalled the return of pure funk to the charts. Jazzie B takes a classic JamesBrown-esque groove, filters it through some hip hop production, and comes up with this nice track that has a deep deep bottom, and a slow funky groove. Offered up here in a number of different mixes, the last two of which offer some nice bits for putting into a mix! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Great grooves – featuring 3 tracks that were selected for, but don't appear on, the Messin Around 3 Tighten Up compilation! Like the tracks on that set, these are solid jazzy groovers – from the 60s and 70s, with global origins that really keep the sound fresh! Titles include "That's What She Said" by George Duke, "Kool & The Gang" by Ed Maciel, and "From This Moment On" by Giovanni Hidalgo. Also includes the 7 minute version of "Tighten Up" by JamesBrown! 12-inch, Vinyl record
