Doug Clark & the Hot Nuts — Homecoming With Doug Clark ... LP
Gross, Late 60s. Very Good+ .... $0.99
One of Doug Clark's bawdy frat rock-soul party LPs on the Gross label – with his trademark "blue" material for adult listeners, backed up by raunchy R&B riffing! The general style's a bit dated, but it's also the kind of album that paved the way for Rudy Ray Moore in the 70s. Titles include "Hot Konomi", "Limericks", "Saga of Rex", and "The Amsterdam Maid".

new Art Farmer — Homecoming ... LP
Mainstream, 1971. Used Gatefold .... $5.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of Art Farmer's hippest albums of the 70s – thanks to some incredible work from the rhythm section! The tracks here are all quite skittish and grooving – not really funky, but flowing with a wonderful sort of energy – and bouncing along on the bottom with more drive than you might expect from Farmer! Art's working here with a group that features Jimmy Heath in the lead on tenor, soprano sax, and flute – but the real stars of the set are almost the core trio of Cedar Walton on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums – who are augmented by Mtume and Warren Smith on percussion, both of whom give the record it's amazing sound. Even familiar numbers sound nicely fresh, and Heath himself is at one of his hippest points here – really opening up with lines that we would have never expected a decade before. Titles include include "Cascavelo", "Blue Bossa", "Some Other Time", and "Homecoming".
(Cover has light wear.)

Geof Bradfield — Melba ... CD
Origin, 2013. New Copy .... $13.99 15.98
A beautiful tribute to the genius of trombonist/arranger Melba Liston – and a set that doesn't just copy her music, but really opens up a whole new spirit from its inspiration! Reedman Geof Bradfield composed all the tracks in the set, and puts things together with a spirit that's not unlike some of Melba's best arrangements for middle-sized groups – that way she had of making things tight, and rhythmically soulful – yet still allowing plenty of room for improvisation and individuality amidst the fuller picture of the tunes. Bradfield gets in plenty of great moments on tenor, soprano sax, and bass clarinet – and the rest of the group features Victor Garcia on trumpet and flugelhorn, Joel Adams on trombone, Jeff Parker on guitar, Ryan Cohan on piano, Clark Sommers on bass, and George Fludas on drums. Titles include "Central Avenue", "Dizzy Gillespie", "Detroit/Kingston", "Randy Weston", and "Homecoming" – and the set ends with vocals by Maggie Burrell on the tune "Let Me Not Lose My Dream".

new Dave Holland Quintet — Seeds Of Time ... LP
ECM, 1985. Used .... $13.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Although Dave Holland has led and participated in many great groups, large and small, his 80squintet that recorded for ECM is arguably the best. Featuring Steve Coleman, Julian Priester, Marvin Smitty Smith and Kenny Wheeler, the group manages to swing and dance hard around some fairly complex numbers, mostly written by the group members. The tracks ever sound too intellectual or pretentious, and the interplay and solos throughout are tremendous. 9 numbers in all, including "Uhren", "Homecoming", "Perspecuity", "Celebration", "World Protection Blues", "Gridlock (Opus 8)", "Walk-a-way", "The Good Doctor" and "Double Vision".

new Russell Hoke — Selected Poems ... LP
Unheard-Of, 1980s/1990s. New Copy .... $6.99 Out Of Stock
Selected Poems from Russell Hoke – on vinyl! The San Antonio troubadour reads his own work here – it literally is Hoke's Poetry here, and if you're down with the idiosyncractic folk music stylings of Russell – somewhat otherworldly but always true and tuneful, you should dig this, too. It's honest and unironic, but he's clearly having fun with the format, too, making it all the more endearing. 25 in all: "Tour Guide", "Prison's Failure", "Twister", "Royalty", "To An Aborted Child", "Perversity", "The Trance", "The Desertion", "The Learning Fire", "The Hermit's Homecoming" and more.
(Very limited. Comes in a hand-assembled package from Russell himself.)
