HestonWarm Human Cold World ... CD
World Soul, 2011. New Copy .... $7.99
The best set yet from Atlanta singer Heston – whose warm, emotive voice and timelessly crafted style has long put him in the upper tier of independent soul artists for the better part of decade leading up to this excellent album! The songs are are supremely catchy and brilliantly draw from the best intimate soul music of the 70s without ever flirting with throwback/retrosoul revivalism. Heston produced the album, and he delivers masterfully on that front, too – backed by guitar, bass, drums, keys percussion and some horns, and each track has a nice, live feel. Includes "Greatest Lover", "Outside Your Window", "My Kinda Lady", "For Love", "Warm Human", "She Lives In Me", "Crazy", "In These Arms", "Lonely In My Room", "Right Here", "Oh La La".

Various — This Is Soul 2005 ... CD
Soul Brother (UK), 2005. New Copy .... $13.99
A well-done overview of underground Neo Soul from the US – one that features some of the best work we've been stocking over the past few years! The scope here is really great – with a very careful focus on the individual artists, and the tracks chosen – at a level that's far better than most of the cheapo Neo Soul collections out there on the market. Many of these folks are ones that we sell in full LP form, but this set's a great way to dip into their work at a lighter level – with a total of 16 tracks that include "Fell In Love" by Antoinique, "Let Love In" by Trace Ellington, "If" by Heston, "Just Because" by Conya Doss, "U Told Me" by Monet, "Ivory Moon" by Rhian, "I Found Love" by Emerald Jade, "You Know What Happens" by Alison Crockett, "Like No Other" by Maya Azucena, "Love Serenade" by Marlon Saunders, "Darkside" by Mayron, and "Honeydew" by Geno Young.

new Jerry Goldsmith — Planet Of The Apes – Original Soundtrack ... CD
Project 3, 1968. Used .... $9.99 Out Of Stock
The hard-to-find soundtrack for the first Planet Of The Apes film! The record has a nice mix of dramatic orchestral scoring with some other tracks that have a cool jingly jangly noisy sound. Jerry Goldsmith did some great work for this one, and the album has a cool gatefold cover with images from the film, plus "commentary" by Charleton Heston (gun-loving bastard!) Titles include "The Clothes Snatchers", "The Cave", "A New Mate", "No Escape", and "The Revelation".
(Out of print. BMG Direct pressing.)

new Stump — Fierce Pancake ... LP
Chrysalis, 1988. Used .... $4.99 Out Of Stock
Wild twanginess from this off-beat group that included Kev Hopper on bass and samples. This was the one that was supposed to make them stars, but instead got them shackled to an unfortunate major label contract that smothered them. Too bad, but the records got some nice moments like "Charlton Heston", "Bone", "Buffalo", "Living It Down", and "Alcohol".
(US promo pressing. Cover has a promo stamp, ring & edge wear, call letters in marker on both sides, splitting on the spine, and an album review taped to the front. Labels have some marker.)
