Various — Baia Degli Angeli Vol 1 – 1977 to 1978 – The Legendary Italian Discoteque Of The 70's (Book & CD) ... CD
Amarkord (Italy), Late 70s. Used Book/CD .... $11.99
A much-needed look at a key force in Italian disco – the legendary Baia Degli Angeli, a club that was as important to Europe as the Paradise Garage was to New York! The set features a hardcover book that's loaded with full color images, photos, and essays on the club – packaged beautifully with a 16 track CD in the back cover. And the CD itself is almost worth the price of admission – a great selection of numbers that played strongly on Angeli's dancefloor in the late 70s, most of which have a spacey electronic quality that links them strongly to some of the best underground club of New York at the time. The CD's mixed together in a way that recreates the feel of the legendary floor – and titles include "Midnight Madness" by Don Ray, "Zone" by Rhythm Makers, "Don't You Know Who Did It" by John Forde, "Pazuzu" by Tony Silvester & The New Ingredient, "Surprise" by Andre Gagnon, "Sweet Lady" by Chain Reaction, "Timing Forget The Timing" by Black Devil, "Magnifico Mambo" by Five Letters, "Come On & Rock" by Needa, "Point Zero" by Voyage, "Un Habit En La Bemol" by Flashback Roger Gravel, and "Monkey Star" by Arpadys.
(Out of print. Outer booklet has some light scuffs.)

new Billy F Gibbons/Bonnie Billy & Matt Sweeney — Oh Well/Storms ... 7-inch
Drag City, 2012. New Copy (pic cover).... $5.99
A split single by some esteemed Billys – folkish indie mainstay Bonnie Prince Billy and Texas boogie rock great Billy F Gibbons of ZZ Top – and each covering Fleetwood Mac! Gibbons & company cover the very early Mac song "Oh Well" on the A-side, and honestly, it's pretty great! It's a loose, swaggery, bluesy thing, though not in a typical ZZ Top way – but Gibbons is Gibbons – with his charismatic, gravely voice out front of those signature electric licks. He's backed by Blake Mills, Danielle Haim and Matt Sweeney. Sweeney & Bonnie Prince Billy cover "Storms" on the other side – and it's another win – one that shows real respect for the Stevie Nicks-penned song, by furnishing it sparey and singing it well!

Madvillain (Madlib & MF Doom) — Money Folder (orig, rmx, inst, rmx inst)/America's Most Blunted (voc, inst) ... 12-inch
Stones Throw, 2003. New Copy (pic cover).... $6.99
MF Doom and Madlib, two of the most ubiquitous characters in underground hip hop – hell, perhaps THE most ubiquitous characters in underground hip hop, pair up for an outing on Stones Throw! "Money Folder" is Doom's real showpiece of the couple of tracks here. Metal Face kicks his gravelly, atomically charged word bombs over some really hot start & sto(m)p beats by 'Lib. "America's Most Blunted" is the DJ's game, with a string of strange samples and soundtrack vibe with a Cut Chemist feel. Madlib's knob twirlin' and wheel spinnin' on the two main cuts and remixes is much more in his funk beats and wacked samples guise than the mad jazz vibe he's been rocking on other recent projects.

new Tom Waits — Foreign Affairs ... LP
Asylum, 1977. Very Good .... $19.99
One of the stellar earlier albums from Tom Waits – with lots of slower, piano-led bluesy and jazzy ballads – on top of the jivey, gravelly charisma of his voice and songwriting. The mix of that gruff voice and the fairly pretty instrumentation is prime Waits, from this period. This is the 40s, 50s and 60s-inspired Waits at his near-finest. Includes "Cinny's Waltz", "Muriel", "I Never Talk To Strangers", "A Sight For Sore Eyes", "Barber Shop", Foreign Affair" and more.
(White label promo with some marker on the label. Cover has ring & edge wear, a promo sticker, and a name in marker.)

new Hollie Cook — Hollie Cook ... LP
Mr Bongo (UK), 2011. New Copy .... $12.99 Out Of Stock
A truly solid modern reggae album by Hollie Cook – daughter of Paul Cook and one of the Slits circa the mid 00s revival – delivering a pretty much irresistible Prince Fatty-produced set for Mr Bongo! Hollie herself dubs here take on the style as "tropical pop", and that's fair – her voice his lovely and kind of delicate, served will by tried-and-true Prince Fatty production and some gravelly reggae vox assistance from Horseman on few tunes, giving it a grittier counterbalance. It's the kind of record that's pretty easy to naysay without actually hearing. Go ahead and listen, it's worthy! Includes "Milk And Honey", "That Very Night", "Walking In Sand", "Cry (Disco Version)", "Sugar Water (Look At My Face)" and "Body Beat" feat Horseman, "Shadow Kissing" and "Used To Be".
